Have joined it three times but I’m not receiving the e-mails. 😔 No, they’re not going to my spam/junk folders… it just doesn’t seem to like me 😅 Is it because I’m trying to sign up from an I-Pad? 🤔
6:53 He didn’t drop a stick, he *broke* a stick! That recovery was smooth AF! Not a 30S2M fan but have watched this clip about 20 times since it came out. Chad’s incredible! And whatever he says about emo, he had an undeniable blast playing that song! You can feel his joy in his playing. Absolute beast of a drummer 🥰
That's what shocked me, too - I hadn't watched for a few weeks and thought perhaps Drumeo had decided to edit out the listens, for some reason, but... Just awesome!
I really liked to see how he adjusts on the fly when he anticipates wrong. Even when he breaks his stick, it doesn’t stop his flow and keeps going like a pro does.
Love this Drumeo series. Chad Smith is one of my favorites. Really liked what he did here. This is a series to check out for all drummers or fans of drummers.
Man Rhcp innovated like no other! They created a whole style. They brought rap, funk, Hendrix, rock, and pop culture all into one to create something that is one of a kind. Many bands after them tried to do the same. Incubus, Limp biscuit, rage against the machine etc. i understand for someone who is a nit picky perfectionist can can pick Anthony’s vocals apart, but you have to respect his free form spirit. He performs from his heart and soul. His earlier years in the mid 80s and early 90s were amazing. He is a true free form poet and MC at heart. He never was a singer. He was inspired by John and other singers to work on his craft and transform his vocal style out of his love and appreciation for music. It’s not always perfect, but it’s perfect for the Rhcp. If Anthony died, Rhcp dies with him. Him and flea were the founding fathers of this band. Nobody can do what Anthony does without sounding cringe or forceful. Rhcp is the best band alive. They have gone through so much individually and always come back together even stronger with new fresh music. Their longevity is elite and inspiring. They love each other and they love music. It’s their whole life. For someone to not like them or not appreciate their dedication to this art is mind blowing to me. Usually, The type of people who don’t like Rhcp have too big of an ego, they’re perfectionists, judge mental, they take shit WAY too serious, and have no idea how to have fun or be free. Rhcp is not about trying to be the best. They’re about love, freedom, having fun, innovating, not being so serious, funk/soul, family, being themselves, and not giving a funk what anyone thinks about them. That’s Pureness in its highest form.
I've watched all those Drumeo "First Time" videos, and that's the first one where the guy didn't even listen to the song all the way through before jumping in. He really nailed it.
I love the song, "the kill", Jared's voice gets to me. To see Chad Smith come in, listen to it, and without skipping a beat rocks out, made me cry. Watched a vocal coach, days later, listening to your band. Now you are here watching it. I love how RU-vid makes us feel connected. Stay well. Your voice reminds me of Freddie Mercury.
I've watched this video on Drumeo probably 15 times I laugh and am amazed at the same time. It just reminds me that there are LEVELS to everything....love you and your channel Justin!
drumeo has some of the most technical and perfectly calibrated drummers doing this series.... somehow chad smith throwing caution to the wind, stumbling around, breaking a stick, missing a few cues manages to be my favorite. the dude is legendary! i can't say enough how big of a lesson that is to me as a wannabe weekend drummer
I've been watching all of the Drumeo videos in this series. There have been some mind blowing ones, and this is one of them! Totally unexpected because he does something totally different from the other drummers who have participated. It's always either famous session drummers or just drummers used to playing with their mind, so to speak. So it's a lot of active listening going through the song several times, also without playing, and then maybe taking several takes. But Chad Smith jams along, which is a skill, and kinda nails it. Awesome stuff!
When it comes to this series my absolute favourite is Dirk Verbeuren playing the Killers. 100% worth checking out! Also Domino Santantonio playing Slipknot was a fun watch aswell... Paired with her revenge on Brandon Toews in a later video, where he has to learn "The Dying Song" - got quite the workout there ^^
@@StevelandCleamer But for this kind of drum session, the last thing you'd need is being a perfectionist. For jamming, the most important things are feel and groove.
I love this series, you should definitely react to more of them. The ones where they have jazz drummers playing metal songs they don't know are especially fascinating.
I cherry pick my peppers tunes but no doubt about the talent! Especially Chad. He plays with conviction, hammering down just like Shannanimal. Whole video is worth a watch. It’s fantastic.
I saw this on Drumeo when it dropped - love your reaction, Justin. It’s it hilarious to scour the comments on their videos and see how many guitar players (who never even touched a drumstick) watch that channel. It’s an interesting thrill ride to watch a drummer trying to figure out music they’ve never heard - or explain their own music. Chad is a beast for sure. He’s always been a fave drummer of mine.
He's the only drummer in the series to not listen to the entire drumless track all the way through at least once before trying it. He listed for a few seconds and then just kills it with no idea what's coming next.
Sugarfoot (Michael Jackson's drummer) did that with a Linkin Park song, as well. Pretty fine company to be in. But yes, that's a lot of what makes this performance so impressive. I love watching drummers develop their parts in this series, but to see someone just improvise and go for it like a jam is incredible.
@@mjeh1 Unless my memory has gone full Mandela Effect on this one, he most certainly did not give it a listen first. That said, 100% go watch it again. I'm going to do the same. So good.
because that's what chad is used to. he always does improv jam with john and flea. and those guys can just take any jam all the way to god knows where. so he's a very trained improv jammer who could just dive in and thrive.
hey bro had to let you know, I've been in the industry professionally for about 6 years now mainly producing, writing in new york and nashville. I got asked recently what the first CD I ever bought with my own money was. While it wasn't my own money, my dad allowed me to get two records (cds) at circuit city. I got The Outkast Speakerboxx vs Love Below, and The Darkness - Permission to Land. It's completely shaped me to this day for everything I do now. Great to see you.
Totally unrelated, but I've been learning permission to land in honour of the festive year, and just wanted to say Friday Night and Holding My Own are both exquisite.
I have so much repect for Chad after watching this video. He does his job PERFECTLY. He listens and serves the song in an absolutely perfect way. I don’t know if anyone else could do this. They create beautiful renditions of songs, but he NAILED the song, with some extra zest and flavor. I absolutely love it. The guy is “technically” an older man, yet outshines a massive percent of drummer by his sheer talent.
He is awsome, of course! Talking about drummers, this morning while i was training i made a listening of Cindy Blackman-Santana music. She was the Lenny Kravitz drummer for years as you know, and she is wonderful, i have seen her live. She is now working with her husband Carlos Santana and i recommend to you to listen her, if you already didn't. Her job is very good!
At the Drumeo channel you can see the rest of Chad's drum playing, he played on Dua Lipa record on WtC on Ozzy Like those are 3 super different types of music 🤯 mind-blowing!! 🤘🏻❄️
Justin, I just wanted to send you a short message of appreciation from one human to another. I admire your calm and learned approach to your videos and have found myself clicking onto videos as they are recommended solely because this space has become something of a comfort place to me. I empathise with you over your continued battle with substance abuse and thought I would send a moment of affirmation that you are providing a sum positive to the world and are extremely worthwhile.
I can't get over how great you look lately. Your skin alone seems a total different more vibrant color and you just seem well. I hope this appearance is not a false one because I very much wish you to feel better than ever. Much love to you Mr Hawkins ❤
I just watched this the other day and Chad Smith never stops amazing me. This was badass, is anticipation of what should be next, the fills are amazing. Chad does not get the credit he deserves and the fact that his musicality is amazing.
I'll be seeing you in 8 days in Kansas City and i expect foot cams on all of you! Maybe a cam on the pedal boards, or better yet, gopros on your ankles/shoes. Live stream these to screens around the venue so people won't know where to look at most of the time and add to the awe & confusion. You've got 8 days. Get on the gear. I can show up early to set it up if need. I'm an electrician and sound guy, my buddy is IT & computers. Let's do this! But seriously, i got 4 tickets for your show to share with friends because of your greatness as a person being shown by these videos. I like The Darkness, but i don't do a lot of shows even generally for my greatest musical loves. You Justin, are worth every bit of over spending & sharing and i know the show will be great! Thanks for being a better human, cheers, Jason.
RHCP has a monster rhythm section. Chad is one of my favorite drummers of all time. Lots of power, with a lot of tasty bits thrown in for finesse. The Drumeo series is really informative, and I always like to hear and see what the drummers do when faced with unfamiliar material, I find it really helpful for my own playing. There is this one video in the series where this jazz dude is the drummer and he just isn't into it, and kinda half-asses it. Fekking jazz dudes, man. Talk about elitism.....
Chad is literally the ONLY drummer in the series so far to NOT listen to the drumless version of the song at least once and all the way through before taking notes and learning signature before giving it a shot. He just jumped right in blind... and NAILED it.
5:13 The echo! 😂 I really don't mind the frequent stops, it has never bothered me. I come here to see what you have to say about it, and the video is out there if I'm made interested enough to want to see and listen to the whole thing without interruptions. I've seen so many react channels where they listen to the whole thing, don't move a single muscle in their face during the entire song and then only say a few words at the end. That's much worse, like... no reactions... in a react channel. No matter what, no one can ever accuse you of being stiff and expressionless. No matter if I agree or not, I've never been bored here!
Justin we saw you at Starland ballroom in New Jersey just a few weeks ago and whatever you are paying Softy you need to give him more. That lad does everything!
Yes yes yes yes yes... I saw that last night and I was blown away cuz he totally nailed it.... That's a really cool little thing they do.... Thanks for noticing... You rock.🎉
Mate I watched that video the other day and I was just absolutely fucking smacked in the chops. I have absolutely no idea how he did that. He has to have heard it before because it was perfect. PERFECT
ha! I watched this one the other day and was thinking, I'd just love to see Justin to watch this - think he'd enjoy it... so yay! (i'm not a drummer, no idea why this drumming content/drumeo came up in my recommendations, glad it did). seen a few, this is my fav so far, mainly cause not only sheer talent of Chad Smith - (doesn't even listen whole way, jumps in almost immediately..) his passion, personality as well.
Yes Chad is an Amazing Drummer but he said" if he knows it he's going to @#$%&!@ play it. I've been a drummer for 30 plus years and yes I heard of this song but don't know the ins and outs but could still rock the song out. He played it with so much Confidence. It was Amazing. Would to love see him try another one.
I would LOVE to see people do this with guitars and vocals as well. For vocals you could give them the lyrics but no vocals on the track and see how they put it together after listening.
How can he have never heard this song before? I never knew who wrote and played it, but I’ve heard it (and I don’t dislike it). Only super uptight people are going to complain about the short clips. Most of us understand the problem with copyright infringement and YT.
I know there's a billion of these videos...but I would love to see the Hawk's reaction to Drumeo's video of Jonathan "Sugarfoot" Moffett playing his drum part on Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal". I'm not a drummer (guitarist) but I must have watched that Drumeo video at least 25 times...it's intoxicating especially if you are stunned by phenomenal drum-playing (as I am)...Also love this Chad Smith video. I know Justin isn't the biggest RHCP fan, but you cannot deny Chad Smith's other-worldly ability to play drums.
cheers Justin!"I had the pleasure of meeting Chad at a drum clinic he's very approachable and a very friendly guy although I must admit I play those Rush songs better than he did when he was jamming out with geddy and Alex at the tribute show.
MAN ... I really wanted to go to the Detroit show. But the prices! the add ons! Ain't gonna happen. Cheers, Justin ... sure wish I could have seen you.
I watched it yesterday, he was amazing. I can totally recommend you listen to Dirk Verbeuren doing 'Mr. Brightside'... That's even better than the Chad Smith video.
Chad is such an unbelievably consistent and effective drummer. For that I rank him as one of the greatest rock drummers of the late 20th/early 21st Century.
