What the ras says about the view that west blks have of Africa, is different from the view Africans have. We look at Africa holistically, Africans tends think about country or tribes. Jamaicans in general think about mother Africa, not country or tribes.

Aikebulan (Africa) should get rid of the different European languages and prepare for the retooling of the region. Imagine 7 of the words top universities are in South Africa. Think carefully about that.

If you are not South Afrikan, then why try to sell us on a prospect that the South Afrikans themselves are not offering? There is no such thing as one language for the most linguistically diverse location on the planet. Well there is at the moment. It is called English. And unless the continent literally agreed to choose from amongst the least spoken, obscure tongues on the continent, so that all would share the same stakes and risks with regards to the initiative, it would always be presented with an impasse. Every region has their choice of tongues that they too would choose to elevate and privilege..

Jamaicans do not have the same food as Ghana. They have a few similar ingredients but very different cuisine. Jamaica’s official language is standard English and Jamaican patois is almost 100% broken English, which isn’t classified as an official language but regarded as a dialect of English. There are no other languages in Jamaica. Ghana has many different languages and no Jamaican speak any of those languages. There are one or two ‘African’ words in Jamaica but they are mainly the name of items and do not form any part of the language!

Most Jamaicans originated from ghana. All of their leaders who liberated jamaica all came from ghana . They all had Ghanaian names . Even the Ashanti flag is the only flag that the Jamaican flag has similarities with. Where do u think jamaicans got the Anase story from?
@cleo63100
@cleo63100 13 дней назад
No, most Jamaicans do NOT originate from Ghana. That’s a myth. Jamaicans came from all over Africa and many other countries around the world. Yes, anansi stories are known but that doesn’t mean everything about Jamaica is from Ghana. The Jamaican flag has nothing to do with Ghana. Prior to Jamaica's independence, the Jamaican government ran a flag design competition for Jamaica's new flag. Over 360 designs were submitted, and several of these original submissions are housed in the National Library of Jamaica. Jamaica has its own food and culture which has been developed over 500 years and with input from all its people who came from different parts of the world, and also from the indigenous Taino Indians who inhabited the island before the Europeans arrived. The Europeans were the ones who brought in Africans and others to the island.

@@theofficialfriendlyretrievers Which part of Jamaican patois is Twi? Stop your nonsense and stop begging! Jamaican patois is 100% broken English! I’m Jamaican born and bred and never heard of any ‘Twi’ in my entire life! Maybe you could tell me which part of Jamaican patois is Twi?! I’ll answer my own questions - no part of Jamaican patois is Twi or any other language apart from standard English and ‘broken’ English!

@@cleo63100 What is beyond dispute and long settled is that the cultural heritage and spiritual system of a specific segment of Jamaican peoples, it Maroon nation, has their origins in a specific land which they themselves have always pointed to. Their historical leaders such as Queen Nanny, Cudjoe , Quao, Tackie, all point to ethnic nations from within the former Gold Coast, present day Ghana. The language of the Maroons is Kromanti, which is akin to a “pidgins Twi”, but Twi nonetheless. But perhaps more than anything else, is they have the same name for the Almighty. The Spanish and Portuguese alone documented over 130 separate spiritual systems from amongst the various ethnic nations whose peoples they took from the continent. For there to be the names of people, places, things, even their very name for the Almighty and worshipped in a similar context, with horns, drumming and dancing, is for you to deny for yourself. But the Marooon cultural custodians and gatekeepers make no such denials. They rather affirm the claims…and have already done the cultural exchange, vetting and confirmation. So just say you are not a Maroon and that you have no connection to the continent. Fair enough. Jamaica already has many who can make similar claim. Although most of those happen to be Chinese… But the Maroons make no such denial of their Afrikan roots and heritage. They have gone further and made valuable affirming connections.

@@SamuelComah so Christianity is Africa and the Jesus nonsense is African, ok , if Christianity started in Ethiopia, why was it not all over Africa until colonialism, see you think that because you and many others gloss over the history of King Ezana adopted it in the 4th century ,Christianity only spread in places like Kenya in the 1800’s , yet Kenya is in East Africa close to Ethiopia, Ethiopia was just the first African country to make the foreign religion their national religion, the Portuguese bought Christianity to west Africa much later , so maybe you need to do some more research before coming with that nonsense of Christianity started in Ethiopia

Cultural differences exist and for a person going from one location to another, they should leave room for the adaption, adjustment and assimilation of a new culture they are transitioning into. I have traveled to many countries that are part of continents like North America, (just recently) South America, Asia, Europe and other regions of the world ie. the Caribbean and the Middle East and one of the issues I always face are differences that are unique to that region, country and/ or area whether be it major or however slight, are the cultural differences. Through out my travels I tell myself this is not home so indulge and become part of those things that the countries that I visit has to offer and is about.

One explanation for that is that slaves brought to the New World surviving the Atlantic Slave Trade were first taken from the Portuguese Port called Coromantee on the West Coast of Africa. Another issue I believe a person of African descent has is a subdivision of tribes and I guess the colonial borders complicate this further. We have some retention of African religion amongst us called Pocomania or Revivalism however this religious forms isn't socially encouraged though still practiced on a small scale.

The languages aren't the same, Jamaicans use some words borrowed from Ghana. A Jamaican accent is very different from a Ghanaian one. Besides there are many indigenous languages in Ghana, which differ a lot from one another. The water in sachets isn't simply a matter of the packaging. You have various "grades" of "pure water", some are clean and others are less clean. If you're unlucky to buy one of "dubious quality" you can fall ill. I was surprised to learn that Ghanaians aren't as pan-African as our Jamaican brothers and sisters. I say this because Ghana is the birth place of the late Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who not only advocated African unity, but also implemented his ideas whilst in power. It's a shame this founding father has been reduced only to a historical momento. The religion thing will take some work.
