@fouoii gyhh that makes sense, to hung ideally you need grip strength and be very light. My 6yo girl has a lot of grip strength for her size so... it makes sense
@@huracan200173 I use to be able to do some 30 pull ups with amazing form 12 years ago. I sat around for 10 years doing nothing. Recently got back into fitness and im embarrassed to say i cant even do one from hanging grip. I need to lose 40 lbs to get back to my 24 year old strength.
I will bring my trained Chimpanzee down and absolutely humiliate all of these fitness folks. Humble pie time. He can do a boat load of one handed pull ups no problemo. He can hang for 30 minutes or more no problemo. He can one handed and beat these times. He doesn't do Muscle Ups, he will do Muscle-Ups / Launch Overs and come back for dozens more.
@Heath Sims The reason I said his form looks ridiculous was indeed mainly his legs, but in the end of the day they are part of the form of this movement. Did he do a good job? Yes, doing 17 MU even with this form is something most people can't do. But that doesn't mean his form was good, it was (in my eyes) still quite bad.
@Heath Sims Yeah, the first guys last few reps didn't count either in my opinion, youre right on that. Still, the only thing that I call a good form MU is a strict one, no use of leg momentum, etc. So from my perspective the second guy has bad form (because even if he keeps his legs together, he still uses them to create momentum upwards). Maybe that's because I am a perfectionist. As I said, he did a good job because most people can't even do MU with the form he used, but that doesn't make it good form. It wouldn't count as a single rep in a competition for example. That's the standard I uphold for myself anyway.
@mike sprigg Yeah, we used to wear an onion on our belts cos that was the fashion, and we did endless muscle ups all day long. Then we did one arm muscle ups with girls hangin off our legs. They couldn't help themselves cos we were beasts. Those were the days.
@@Martin-ht1gs Kipping in a muscle up is proper form. Strict muscle ups are a completely different exercises and much rarer than a standard muscle up. In fact a lot of people who don't look like they're kipping are often still abusing momentum slightly.
Years ago when I was a recess teacher I inadvertently started a hang challenge on the preschool/kindergarten (and the occasional 1st & 2nd gr classroom) playground. Over the course of the year, the champion was a 4-year-old preschooler. She hung for 4 minutes, 22 seconds. It was unreal.
@@Subsistence69 - Yes and no. We also had to direct traffic, wash lunchroom tables between groups, shuttle classrooms around campus and sub in classrooms (preschool through high school). We’d be 7 hours out in all kinds of weather, from freezing to sweat running down your back, pouring rain, snow, whipping wind, you name it. You got to have great conversations with kids, but you also were mommy to 500-700 kids, dealing with one ridiculous problem to the next (“Johnny looked at my shoe!!” “Susie won’t play with me”), correcting the same kid over the same playground rule for the 8th time that day, everyday….. Most days were a lot of fun, but many were just exhausting, physically, yes, but mostly emotionally. I LOVED the hanging bar on that playground. Years later they got rid of it, as well as several other toys (monkey bars, a tall slide, fireman’s pole and swings) because we went from just our own autonomous preschool to state-accredited day care and they deemed those toys too dangerous for that age group. Didn’t matter that kids had been perfectly fine for 12 years on those toys, building strength, coordination and courage, often times with our help…..ugh, don’t get me started on over regulation and unnecessary coddling. So annoying.
@@mena94x3 god your obnoxious and ignorant politics even bleed through in your comments on rock climbing videos. safety regulations are born from blood.
@r2l100 Looks like not one put in effort to fighting muscle failure. None of them had cramped hands afterwards, shaking hard, etc... You see nobody compensating for the slipping in their forearms, just giving into the slip. (Otherwise you'd see them try to curl their wrists to compensate. 22:38 is an exagerration of what I mean, but he's not quite at fatigue. Those two definitely did push, but one of them is w/ magnus and there's obviously something about the other, he's not just any rando.) She didn't necessarily go to it either, but being 66 and going like 2x as long as a bunch of youngins is enough to consider she pushed way farther mentally. Especially considering her stoic form. Amazing. Also consider as a woman, shes at a natural disadvantage with arm/grip strength...(Although, as gretchen, with those arms, compared to some of those lanky guys, nu-uh) I think I heard her say she was military? Makes sense, she got the kahones.
HUGE props to Getchen and that kid who held for over 2 mins! I hope I'm in as good of shape as she is when I'm her age. Guy with the glasses was a beast and seemed like a good dude. Great vid!
Kids have insane weight to strength ratio. I remember when I was 10 I was able to do 50+ pull up and hang on the monkey bars for ever. Then the Nintendo came out...
@@AlainPilon yea holy crap now that you mention it, I don't know about 50 pull ups, but I could hang around on those monkey bars for what felt like forever when I was little haha
It was a pleasure to participate in your challenges! So much fun 😁👍 let me know next time you visit LA 😜 maybe I’ll get another $100 bill 💵😁 so it will keep me motivated))
I am not sure why this got recommended, but the fact that you are so pleasant to people, not judgmental, positive, and still manage to make a good watch is refreshing. 😎
@@Rockmaster867 yeah but his explosivness was insane and also his endurance. Most people can endure or explosive power but this dude can do both insane really... Wondering how his routine looks like
@@icebreaker554 It's a culture man, it's not drugs. When it's sunny pretty much every day and you get to do what you love you're gonna get chill people.
It might be good for you, to try it sometimes. That doesn't mean you will lose your conscious nature but allowing you to fail in public might help you with dealing the anxiety that comes with it. Try it, if anything among friends or strangers, whichever feels most comfortable. There are plenty of good things that comes from being a conscious person.... but the anxiety is not one of them. And that might help you.
Joey Ramone totally rocked the muscle up! And Gretchen just totally rocked in such a way that no able body person has an excuse for not working out. She was incredible!
wow the dude that won the muscle ups, what an amazing person. idk why but he seemed extreeeeemly chill to hang out with. Best non-climbing video on your channel for me. that was so cool and now i have super good mood.
@@pixelcrust so hand-me-downs and dumpster dive clothes only? Or are a few dollars at the thrift store acceptable too? Sure hope climbing gear doesn't fall in the "must be free" category...
So great seeing people just being people. Super chill just like when i was growing up. Interaction , being outside, and no one looking at their phone. Really great work guys. Couldn't stop watching after the Alpine indoors climbing.... The instructor was doing so good giving solid fundamentals that made this old guy wanna try. I'd probably be looking for a candy bar instead.
Same here. After watching Magnus for a couple years now, i finally went to the Oslo climbing gym where he used to go. Kind of weird being there after watching so many videos from there, but i had a great time. I climbed a 6b first time i went there, and I’m pretty happy about it having never been to a climbing gym before.
@@bebble985 it's so surreal going there isnt it! It was weird how massive the lead walls were, but the bouldering felt like not as big as the videos make it seem. The route setting there is so delicious (though I was only climbing everything up to 7a)
You said it before and I agree watching your videos is very much like watching a friend, almost like seeing visually a story a friend would tell you. Keep it up you are relatable, kind hearted and just a great personality!
Man, I had to go back and re watch that guy crank out those muscle ups. Incredibly impressive. I was concerned that somebody was going to beat Magnus with super bad form crossfit kicking muscle ups, but that guy crushed it.
20:28 this women is amazing. My mom is 60 now and can run 40km+ but has zero to no grip or arm strength but still holy moly for a women in the 60s holding for over 2 min is crazy.
Shout out to Rungne. I LOVE what you're doing making a clothing brand that focuses on actual high quality and comfortable clothing. Too many just focus churning out the latest fashion with cheap materials that barely last a year or two. Thanks Magnus :D
Dude with the glasses seems like a hilarious guy :D Also, interesting how a lot of people didn't want to try, because they thought it would be a scam with a buy-in.
I like these videos because everyone is always so cordial, nice, and respectful. People are having a good time. Friendly competition. Lots of smiles. Society isn't too bad when you look at it from a different lens from time to time.
the 17 muscle ups guy won because he had the best technique to save energy. he used more momentum to get higher and then need less muscle strength for the rest. good job
Love how lighthearted and positive this video is! All the people featured seemed really nice (as well as a few of them being absolute machines😂) and the video felt only 10 minutes long! Great video Magnus
Hey Magnus, would love to see more climbing videos with other legendary climbers. The Alex Honnold and Adam Ondra colabs were amazing. Would love to see you meet up with Chris Sharma or Sasha DiGiulian.
you guys should step up the challenge budget like hang 1min = 10$ 2min = 25$ 3min = 50$ record = 100$ 10 pull up = 10$ 15 pull up = 25 $ 20 pull up = 50$ magnus record = 100$ you would have much more engagement and more happy people trying at least for the 1st stage reward :)
Yo such an awesome video as always! its always cool to see the abilities of people youve never met. Would love to see more of this style in the future!
My girlfriend and I tried indoor climbing for the first time and the catalyst was me finding you on RU-vid! I had a lot of fun and did much better than I thought I would for my first time. I had no idea that there was even a gym like that around where I live!
This is soo fun too watch! Such inspiring people and that makes me happy 😊 20 years ago if I were at muscle beach I would have taken on the hanging challenge. I did some climbing in high school.
It's always the unassuming ones that achieve the most - never judge a book by its cover... Great video, Magnus - mainly here for the climbing content, but love these 'fun' videos a tonne!
14:33 When I saw the first rep I already knew this dude was gonna beat the record, damn he had some serious explosive strength! I don't know if he would've made it if he was forced to do it in the perfect form though. Regardless he deserved it!
He was kipping like crazy, first guy had best form almost completely excluded legs and had them locked , magnus excluded legs but did not have them locked, this guy was swinging like crazy. He couldn’t do 8 with the form magnus had
Videos like this are so motivating and makes me want to work out. I tried the hanging after watching this vid and only managed a minute. My bar was thinner so if I were to try it at the muscle beach bar i might not even pass 40 seconds lol
