"Being an African American in the church has always been interesting, and to say I have never experienced any prejudice from any members in the church would not be true. But my mom always says "Why would I let someone stand between me and God? I just let things like that roll off my back." And I do the same thing."

I remember as a child being bullied and ostracized by the kids I went to church and school with. I will admit it was hard to go to church knowing how they treated me. I remember my mom telling me that I am a child of God and his opinion is the only one that matters. I have kept that in my heart my whole life. I won't let anyone be my reason for not having a relationship with God. I go to church to worship and commune with him. I'm all in no matter what others do in or out of the church. So many get hung up on the culture of the church, being offended, the flaws of others, and many times their own weaknesses. I know we are all imperfect. I look to Christ and the doctrine for safety and truth. God bless Chandler!! Be courageous and remember God loves you.

Knowing that Heavenly Father knew who I was kept me going to church when I had the same experience moving from out of state to rural Utah. It was hard because I went from a ward where everyone was very tight to one with a very different dynamic with a high member population. I was weird, still am but that attitide has helped me as an adult as well. Everyone is on their own journey and we need to allow our fellow brothers and sisters take theirs.

I love this testimony!!! Thank you for sharing Chandler. I have a son with your name. Your testimony helps me in concerns for my family. I am grateful for your Mom and her testimony as well. Thank you for this channel. I love it yall!!! Keep it up. We are on the right path. If it gets hard that is the devil kicking at you. I remind myself of this all the time. All the love. I am excited about your success and opportunities and blessings. We are all pioneers in our own lives to those around us. Anyone can be a pioneer. I am in a big Spanish ward and I just keep seeing their faith. It is amazing to me. A bright blessing to those lives we individually can touch and effect on the Path of Jesus Christ. We all go through stuff to equip us for the people we can have the ability to reach. Sometimes I think these people are individual to US!!! That we promised to help in our lifetime. I wanted to tell you Chandler, if you have not gotten your Patriarchal blessing, do so. You will find wisdom in it. Mine has gotten me through some very hard times. Great testimony. Thank you Sis Thomassen

Many do but many don’t as well. The Church has strong racist roots. In the first part of 2020, they made a children’s manual that was horribly racist and had to apologize for it in a long letter. They claimed it was an error but clearly was not. It talks about the “curse that came upon the lamanites”. It is like a page full of blantant racism. I screenshot the image on my phone. I also screenshot their apology.

I grew up in Southern California and we had gangs in my school (and riots and other fun things😟). I didn't think much about the gangs because they weren't in really in my honors and AP classes so I didn't have much interaction with them. Until I had my table partner in one of my elective classes that eventually he told me he was in a gang. He was a couple years younger than me. He was the sweetest kid and it made me realize the humanity of these kids. He didn't want to be in the gang but didn't feel like he even had a choice. There was just too much pressure. I was so glad that we met and had that class together for a year. It was a blessing to know him and he felt comfortable enough to confide in me, so I hope I helped him in some small way. (I also had a friend who died in a drive by shooting in LA. She was just in a car with her family and they were just randomly near this shooting and the bullet just came through the car and hit her. So sad. We were in jr high at the time. It devastated the kids in our school, especially my cousin, who had a huge crush on her. 😭 She wasn't in my ward, but she was in my stake. It was rough.) I'm only part way into your interview and I'm already captivated and excited to hear the rest.

I am working on getting these up. Unfortunately in the beginning we weren't filming everything so there are about 10 of the first episodes that are only on the podcast and won't be on RU-vid, our podcast is available on all streaming apps so you can check those out for more!

I don’t think this kid understands the systemic racism in Mormonism. The Church has treated Blacks very badly throughout most of their history. Utah was the only slave state in the West. In 2020 the church came out with an apology for a children’s manual that had a bunch of racism in it. They said it was an error, when clearly it was not.

No I do, that doesn't mean the church and the gospel aren't true. God is perfect his people are not, trust me I've done a lot of research into this topic, how many organizations now do u support (directly or indirectly) that have racist roots but aren't like that now. People and organizations are allowed to change and not to mention the church admitted there misteps but even still I love the gospel THAT'S why I came back and shared my story with Ashly I didn't come back for the people (or I probably wouldn't have come back at all) but for the love I felt when studying the scriptures and getting close to God. I hope you're able to put that in perspective idk if you're a member, inactive, ex-member, anti or just someone who stumbled upon this video but I'm sorry you feel the way you do. And hopefully in time heavenly father can touch your heart like he did mine❤️

Christ came for the sinners, remember? The whole need not a physician? That extends to every single human being ever born, and will yet ever be born. Period. That means we all come to Christ with flawed perspectives. Christ meets us ALL where we are. Including you. But let’s be honest, you haven’t relayed all the facts here. Joseph was a friend to all races in a political climate, and age, where doing so attracted and drew extreme hostility. It would’ve been far easier for him to have just gone along to get along. It took real character to go against the tide of popular opinion. What have you done that’s so great?
