Infiniti M35, 2007 .... I think my gear may be stripped. The motor turns over when I press the button to move seat forward but it just makes a noise and doesn’t move ... hopefully this is the answer ... going to try to do it myself before spending money at the dealership
This absolutely worked for me. Much better explanation than the other videos and especially the video that the part supplier tells you to use. Excellent video.P.S. I used this to fix my FX45.
Thank you so much!!!! Purchased the replacement gear on line. Took it to a local mechanic -$88 + part. Saved over $1100- based on the Dealers estimate. Really appreciate this video!
Thanks so much for a great video! Really helped me out with my 2004 Murano. Like another person commented, I was able to replace the gear without removing any of the seat’s bolts.
Hi. I bought a gear and followed your instructions and it is working fine now, thanks for the video. I have these comments: 1- The gear I bought did not fit the mini-shaft exactly.I had to sand the internal diameter bottom section, and pushed the gear with a small hammer without breaking the teeth. 2: Video is nice and clear, but I had to do it twice while I adjusted the part, and the second time, I didn't bother unscrewing the seat. The part is accessible kneeling outside the car with the front door open. Basically, at least for my Infiniti G35 2004, it should be a 30 minute job. I lost a lot of time getting the plastic covers of the rails out because of the locking tabs they have.
Thank you so much for this video. We fixed our 2007 Murano last night for just $15. We went ahead took the four 14mm screws out to tilt the seat back like in the video, but you wouldn't really have to. Took us about 40 minutes overall.
Fantastic details compared to other vids, thanks, saved me $1300 from an Infiniti dealer on a 2005 G35. Part # was G003, btw, not G002. Comment below about making sure you have the magnetic keyed piece under the gear was very important; found mine broken into three arcs. Used superglue to make the magnet ring whole again (took patience, magnets like to jump). BTW, I couldn't easily remove the four seat bolts, so I did the repair in place. Took two hours, some body twisting, an LED headlamp, metric sockets + extensions, small visegrip (to keep the gear from spinning while using socket to take off greasy end nut), phillips head screwdriver, superglue, grease and paper towels (used roll as knee pad), along with choice swear words, but it works now!!! Had to hammer gear on using socket, but when motor housing wouldn't go on, had to loosen end nut and get end flimsy washers in line, but all good now. Thanks again!
Thanks! Using this video to fix my 2005 Infinity fx35. Got the old gear off, waiting for the new one to arrive. Found a new one on e-bay for just under 14.00. That's a lot better than 1,500.00! My magnetic collar was broken , so I'll try to epoxy it on the new gear. Too bad you can't buy a new one. I'm doing this all in place without taking the seat out. Not that bad really. Thanks again for the video.
You should remember to remove the keyed black collar from the old worn out gear and place it onto the new gear (after removing the included keyed polymer collar). The black collar is a magnet that actuates the magnetic reed switch in the black housing attached to the motor. The opposite seat track has no such magnet on the corresponding gear.
When I removed the old one, the black collar was broken as well with the stripped gear. The new gear came with a white color ring which I assumed was the same as the black one. I replaced the gear and seat works again, but not the seat memory. So I'm trying to find the black magnet collar part number to order it.
Thanks so much for posting this vid! ...i'm 6 foot, much easier to unbolt front seat bolts & loosen rears- then cock it up. 1 question,..The 2 warpy black washers behind the gear/magnetic collar,.. should they be reinstalled in any particular position, order, etc?
Craig Donahue I'm not sure how similar this is to the infinity FX but you may have to tap the motor to get it to come off or maybe even hit the motor switch to get the motor to spin while pulling out on it
This worked for me. I just can't find a replacement magnetic collar for the seat memory function. It was destroyed along with the gear to move the seat back and forth. 2005 Murano.
Good tread....but..if that stripped gear wedges in the motor gear and builds resistense in the motor...fries the motor...beware...check the operation of motor released from the gear itself and tilt it where where you can see it work and operate it while watching it to see if it trys to work...and feel for heat on the motor....mine was the motor.
The driver seat on my 2007 Murano will move forward and backwards BUT I'm not able to recline. The seat is stuck in an uncomfortable, upright position. Will following the steps to this video fix this problem? Thanx in advance.
I cannot get the bit to come off. I took the plate and the motor off but the nut before the stripped gear will not come off. When I twist it it manual moves the seat on the track and is not loosening to come off. Any suggestions?
How do you know if it's the gear that is failing or the motor? I have a 2007 Murano and it moves on one side up and back creating a "waggle". If it's just the FX that needs to be replaced, that would be great, but what if it's the motor?
one motor drives both sides so if only one side is moving then it most likely it's the gear. if you have the right tools you could probably take it apart and check then put it all back together in 30 minutes
+burninruber60 I have to thank you for this video and your response. I really appreciate it. Is there a way to know what gear and correct parts to order before disassembling? Maybe VIN#?
+burninruber60 The weather was finally nice enough for me to fix the issue. I just wanted to let you know that I was able to follow your instructions and it was fairly easy to do. One thing I didn't have was the lithium grease so I used WD40. I hope that won't cause me issues down the road. Your video instructions were great and it cost me around $700 less than the estimate from the mechanic.
My motor that goes up amd down is stripped. will this work as well? is that a whole different kit? $39.00 for a plastic gear? common , If that's not a rip off what is? They should of at least made it of Metal? Cheap Arse Nissan. I know i will be saving money by doing it my self, but i could probably get a whole motor at a junk yard for that price and a few years later model at that. I have a 2003 FX45 with 68k miles. So i have to choice to do this, if i want to sell it right. Thanks for the video. With my bad back, I don't think i will be able to do the repair, Maybe it would be easier for me to swap out the whole motor?
does your seat kind of rock back and fourth? if so its not a stripped gear but the one arm broke. its pretty common. but the only fix for it is to either have it welded up or buy a whole new seat.
When hitting the button to you feel the motor trying to move. If not, if I remember correctly there is a connection at the motor you could unplug and probe with a digital multimeter.
