Just found out my reversing valve went out on a 2 year old unit. Tech was telling me it’s one of the worst repairs to do and now I see why. Cheers to you HVAC techs who bust ass and do things the right way

That was a real tight job. I’ve done that a whole bunch of times cutting out reversing valves and then unsoldering them. I’m surprised by how a few people use turbo torches I have 1 with all the tips. I love the way the heat goes around the pipe with the turbo torch especially in a tight spot. I am also surprised you were able to do that with silphos instead of the silver bearing solder with the flux that I’ve always had use for a reversing valve.
@cutzwithrazzor
@cutzwithrazzor Год назад
I love my turbo torch! I do mostly residential compressor jobs. That almost looks like it would of been easier to just take out the compressor.
@benkuxhouse787
@benkuxhouse787 Год назад
@@cutzwithrazzor I’m surprise he was able to make those welds with silphos. I had a really tight job very summer to this on a water source two-stage heat pump with two compressors. I had to remove 1 compressor to access the reversing valve and was still very difficult. I soldered on tips so I could pressurize the system before I put the compressor back. I’ve cut out reverse calves before with a saws all that’s what I’ve done many times. You would think that Trane could’ve come up with a better idea than this. If the back panel was removable, you could take the blower out remove the panel and then reversing valve would be right there. I don’t think that is removable I think it is all one piece and you’d have to disassemble the whole unit. It’s a job I wouldn’t want to have to do I hope I never have to I am in a school district job now we don’t have any units like that

I bet I've changed 10 expansion valves on those Trane package units. I usually replace reversing valves at the joints further out if possible, like the factory installed them.

I use an old pair of green tin snips to cut the pipe below the solder joint and the un solder of course . I like to pull the compressor ...but you handled it like you wanted to and I say to each their own as long as the results are the same

I have a wall mount heat pump that is going off on high head pressure only in heat. It works fine in cooling but the suction is a little low. Do you think it is the reversing valve or expansion valve at the outdoor or maybe plugged orfice at indoor coil? Love watching your trouble shooting skills and the way you don't get frustrated when things go wrong.

If the copper pipe is heated properly, shouldn’t the capillary action of the soldering suck the solder around to the backside of the joint? And I’m assuming the flax is in solder rods?
