@@Witty924 just exchanged the aux battery today (last one was from Feb'20). On a LHD D4 (German model) it's way easier to do - no need to unscrew the fuse, takes 10mins only, just need a 10mm nut with extension. ECO warning light is off and best thing now, all strange errors are gone after clearing it! 🤪 Reminder: keep the batteries of your LR always charged and renew them regularly (main 5y, aux 2.5y), then most of your electronic issues will be gone! 🤓

Who knew...the ECO button is a "feature" that supposedly "saves gas"!?? It shuts the car off when it's at idle... like at a stop light. You can either take your foot off the brake and it'll auto start... OR ...TURN OFF the ECO button and NOT WORRY about it! WHAT DIPSH*T thought of this?

Great tip! you would have seen me use an extendable magnetic pen which did the trick nicely. Always a must-have when working on more modern engines and tight spaces 👍

@@Witty924 On a GOOD NOTE LOL ... we discovered that my wife's LR4 "dying" was actually a "feature"!?? The "ECO" button stops the engine when you are at idle. Apparently you simply take your foot off the brake and it will self start! OR..DISENGAGE the ECO button and DRIVE LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!??? LOL

Hi Les, thanks for the comment and support. What model year is your LR4? Once a new battery has been installed the light should go out and stay out. Was your start stop working correctly before the new battery was installed? The LR4 start stop is not the best admittedly and even with a good battery can be temperamental. It won't hurt doing a few miles to double check but it maybe something more than the battery at fault. Let me know how you get on 🤞

@@Witty924 Interesting re the 2013 Australian Version of Disco4 HSE that we own - it doesn't seem to have a second battery nor the start/stop feature (thank god). Not in the rear, not in the engine bay, and doesn't start/stop anyway. This might help: Returning from NZ last monday night, the main battery (the only battery it seems) was completely dead, ie: 2v. What fun waiting for roadside assist after a long day and a 2 hr drive home. Apparently it is well known that these battery types just die, and in smaller vehicles, it is common for them to be waiting at the red lights, and when green ... NOTHING. That quick! Rear enders in that situation are now common. I noticed some months beforehand assorted warning symbols appear on the screen ( incl an irregular 'low battery must start') that made no sense. When departing for NZ in the drizzle (before battery death) the wipers entered 'spastic mode' and switched to high speed mode, and behaving oddly. I suggest that anybody seeing those warnings, that they do NOT switch off the engine and immediately get the main battery replaced ($500ish here) and whilst at it replace the second battery if fitted. Apparently OEM lasts @ 7 to 8 years (depends) and after market less (to be discovered!) but a rule of thumb is to replace the battery(ies) no more than every 4 years. I wonder why in todays world that LandRover can't code in a simple legible for normal people warning that battery death is imminent. Failing that - install battery type that doesn't suddenly die, as that is damned dangerous for all road users let alone inconvenient. Rockets can be sent to intercept asteroids, but 'we' can't even get this basic right.

@@Witty924 One last question about this batter swap. Didn't you need to use a OBD tool to let the car "know" there is a new battery installed?

@@jellekrijnders2012 Hi Jelle, no OBD tool is required, it's only the auxiliary battery for the start-stop so you shouldn't need to reprogramme anything on the car. If you are doing this on your car let me know how you get on 👍

Hi, Dark thanks for the comment. No need to do anything with the onboard diagnostics the car will automatically pick up the new battery. That said the stop/start functionality on LR4 is very hit and miss and very rarely works well. 👍

Thanks MAD for the comment and support. I dontbthinknits worth the hassle to be honest, the system rarely works, I do not think it was a very well executed system they put on the final LR4s they seem very temperamental. 👍

To be honest, you should ask why would you want start stop at all!! I only want to get rid of the annoying ECO warning light; if I could do that and keep start/stop disabled I would.

@@alchristie2315 agree Al, they dont seem to be great on the LR4. I havent seen or heard of a work around to delete it. 🤞

Stay away from the eco start if I were you. They cause massive problems and don’t save that much in fuel anyway

Hi Al, thanks for the comment and support. Generally with auxiliary batteries when they go bad there isnt a way of saving them. Short or long journey's wont make a difference as they dont run directly with the alternator as traditional batteries do. If its showing the light on the dash its generally time to change the battery. Hope that helps 👍

@@Witty924 thanks for feedback. I’ve just checked the voltage across my aux battery and it’s 13.7V (engine off, no load) so this suggests it’s ok. My ECO light is on though, and there’s a P0615(13) fault code so I think I need to look elsewhere. Thanks anyway

Hi there, thanks for the comment. So I believe on the newer discovery, let's call it the discovery 5 ;). It has a capacitor module built into the main batteries in the rear of the car. So of you batteries are working well it could be this module that could be at fault if your stop start is playing up. Maybe worth just double checking on the landy forums 🤞

Thank you very much for the information...I will check those forums as well. Car won't start and last time it had to do with the auxiliary battery post having issues.

Hi T thanks for the comment and support. So yes the start stop should stop the engine when you stop at lights if the systems works correctly. Sometimes it may not. The LR4 system is very temperamental and not the best. It's designed to save fuel as you say. Hope this helps 👍

Hi tc, is it the ECO light in amber with the line through it? It could be the battery again. That said, its only the start stop functionality that the battery controls, so you should be fine driving it to your service centre for them to check or if you feel like you can change the battery yourself give it a go. @@Witty924 She also has a "transmission fault" warning indicator (triangle) I'm in Ohio and she's in Texas!! We just replace the Aux battery and cables last year! The previous owner put in a motorcycle battery and did the Appalachian Application! LOL So we just replaced the battery and cables with the required equipment. Someone else said the main battery could be low and that could cause the "transmission fault" indicator!?? It's impossible for me to know anything for sure from here and trying to do everything over the phone with her. Thanks for your support!!

@@tclodfelter8789 Got it, did the transmission light come on while driving or when stationary? If it was when stationary it could be as you say a low main battery, potentially, it could also be a number of different sensors that could be faulty. let me know how you get on 🤞

@@Witty924 Thanks! It came on when she turned the car on this morning. She's going to take it into a European car place in San Antonio on Monday! works on base so f she needed to she can walk to work... it's about 3 blocks from her hotel.

@@Witty924 thank you. Unfortunately I live in the states and these are hard to come by. Dealer quoted me $460 for the replacement. Unsure the current conversion to pounds for you guys, but I tell ya . That’s a lot of dough for a battery. I searched a local parts store and had minimal luck. I have one other local LR repair guy that sells the batteries. Hoping he can be of help.

@@ld8778 ok that is crazy my friend. Surely the US has batteries of this sort as they are used on many types of cars. Have you done a quick search on ebay US site. Just look for 12v 15Ah 200A at a size of 150mm by 90mm by 145mm. Has to be some on there for you. 🤞

This maybe dependant on the year model you have. Mine is a 2016 last year model build of the LR4, I had no issues or need to reprogramme anything on the car once I replaced the auxiliary battery. Did the change, turned ignition on, all is well and works correctly. Hope this helps 👍

Hi Rod, thanks for the comment and support. I know I fixed the camera in one position which might not capture the full details at the beginning. In short, it's just 2 bolts that hold the positive wire to the battery and then a single for the negative. from there the bracket removal is straightforward. hope that helps 🤞
