Thank you. The dealer wanted a ton on money to do this. I've done a ton of brakes before and I figured the high cost meant it was a difficult job. Looks like any other standard brake these days.
You prolly dont care but if you're stoned like me during the covid times you can watch pretty much all the latest movies on instaflixxer. Been streaming with my brother lately =)
Make sure that sensor isnt worn down that the light is on. Those sensors are one time use. I learned the hard way. The front sensor was different from rear as it liked to see continuity and the rear didnt.
Great vid, I'm tackling this on the weekend. This guy is so chill I almost fell asleep watching haha! How exactly do you put the vehicle into service mode?
Ha, yeah, Hans is pretty horizontal! As for service mode: In the car with ignition in Position II, press the brake pedal three times and hold the pedal down. Push down on the EPB switch for 3-5 seconds. Go to the main fuse box in the engine bay and remove FL8 fuse 30A (pink Fuse) this will ensure that the EPB is not accidentally re-engaged.
Adjustment procedure is wrong. It’s supposed to be adjust till disc requires at least 40nm to move with a torque wrench but no more than 90nm. So it shouldn’t be locked up. Then turn back the adjuster exactly 8 clicks.
He says "Thoroughly degreased". We like to think that people who are going to tackle their own mechanical work at least have a touch of imagination and ability and that we don't have to show you every single minute facet of the job in order for you to succeed. Many thanks for your input though and we'll be sure to try and improve our work.
Hi Alfie Dog, brake pads are usually changed once worn (when low or worn unevenly) Your local garage will be able to suggest more accurately what to keep an eye on.
A very common quandary. We would always advise to replace both at the same time. Discs may not look too badly worn but they have a certain heat capacity when new. As the disc wears this capacity is reduced and can transfer it to the fluid, caliper etc and cause damage or serious reduction in efficiency. Having said that, it's not a hard and fast rule. You may be quite satisfied with the performance of your brakes if you just change the pads. But as I said, we would always recommend changing both. Hope that helps.
Hola, Alan.
When I get to the 2:45 mark, I can't turn my rotor to 11 o'clock. My 2011 Ranger Rover sport automatically turns the parking brake on if I put it in neutral and don't have it running. I don't want to work on the car while running because I'm in an enclosed space, nor am I sure it would turn anyways. What gear are you in for this? I assume neutral. How did you get the car to stay in neutral without the parking brake on?
FunInfusedGames how do you cope with something like a car wash? Engine has to be off and car in neutral otherwise the car can't be pulled through the car wash
