Maybe they should make units battle shocked by night lords become less accurate or do less damage because a damage buff vs battle shocked units would be nice but the night lords are cruel and kill you slowly. Idk how fun that’d be but it would be fitting

GW, if you’re insistent on making battle shock a thing. Can you, you know, make it not pointless? “Oh no, my unit became battle shocked and I can’t use stratagems on them. Guess I’ll just use it on this unit over here” “Oh no, you battle shocked this unit on that objective during your turn. Good thing I then passed my battle shock test at the start of my turn and was still able to score points with said unit” Is it too much to ask that battle shock actually be debilitating? Make their weapon skill worse, their saving throws are worse. If an already battle shocked unit fails a battle shock test then said unit loses a model, or suffers a set amounts of wounds. SOMETHING! Either make it an actual debuff to be concerned about. Or just remove it from the game. Cause right now the entire mechanic is a joke.

As a Word Bearer player I'm pretty gassed. Only thing things im bummed about is no jump lord for warp talons and POSSIBLY damned units not getting access to Dark Pacts.

lol they won’t they actually made it worse this edition I mean it was never good but getting rid of models is better than not being able to use strategems and possibly losing objective control but those things never happen because of when the battleshock happens

If battleshock lasted until the unit made a successful battleshock test, regardless of how many models are in the unit, that would be nice. Giving the ability to force battleshock tests atm doesn't feel impactful because it just wears off.

Completely worthless in its current state. Especially for abilities that trigger it on opponents in your turn as they just end up removing it at the start if theirs

@@Acorbet86 The BS we need is 'remain BS until you pass a test in your command phase' and should be 'adjust your WS/BS by 1' (so it can still stack with indirect/stealth etc)

Would it? It's just a bad concept, conceptually, and in practise. Just bad No one likes it, no one even attempts to play around it. It logically shouldn't apply to like 80% of the factions in the game And it's a guaranteed feelsbadman if you actually proc it ever. Battle shock never feels interactive

Losing strategems is a bit of an oof in rare cases, but that's rarely going to swing an entire game. Really needs an extra penalty, either restoring that models run away (even if it is a bit anti-lore for most factions). Perhaps just not being able to move at all (frozen in fear) would be a better compromise between running away and no effect at all.

They do, it's called 3D printing and third party manufacturers. I've printed shoulder pads and helmets for lots of mine, Alpha Legion and Night Lords. So much excellent stuff out there. If you don't want to print it a friend or printing company will.

Basicly jumppack smaller Chaos Knights seems like a weak design choice for a detachment. While fluffy, it doesnt normally matter.

Don't think I saw you mention it, but the article today also pointed at the new jump pack lord only being able to run with raptors, not warp talons. Also looks like cultists lost all shooting options besides their pistols.

You raise an interesting point about battleshock again. Usually it's something that won't affect the game much and it can at times be countered, so it's true that battleshock is a bit underwhelming. Especially for armies that rely on getting some battleshock results. On the other hand, with the rules the way they are, if you make battleshocks much more common, it's very easy for it to get out of hand and get overpowered. If too many units take battleshocks and fail and can't do anything, it's going to dramatically impact points scoring. Instead, maybe they could make battleshocks slightly more common and then force players to roll another D6 after failing a battleshock. On 1, the unit can't do anything. On a 2, they may secure objectives they are standing on, but not move. On a 3, the unit may move half their movement. On a 4, they may move their full movement. On a 5 they may take their full turn, but all their attacks have -1 to hit. On a 6 the unit regains composure after being battleshocked and may take their turn as normal. Something like that. This could kinda make it possible for players to save an emergency reroll for this so they can try to avoid a worst possible battleshock result, but still allow battleshock-causing armies to deliver some degree of battleshock debuffs on opponents.

It could also be changed to when battleshocked the army fall back halve their movement and cant do anything or just the first part. To make battleshock more common if a unit fails a battle shock the next unit that fails also has -1 on battle shock. They saw their comrades shaken and are now anxious or sth. Though you are idea sounds very cool too. Making that your whole army is afflicted is too much i think. So maybe only the troops near the battle shocked unit would have the -1 on hit.

I got the chance to look at a copy of the codex. Dread Talons forces the enemy to make a battle-shock test at the end of their battle-shock phase if they're near one of your units. Raptors give -1 to enemy battle-shock tests within 6". Dread Talons have several stratagems that give bonuses to damage units which are battle-shocked.

Hurrah, that's two of my armies that are battleshock central. I really want a change to how battleshock affects the board, maybe even army-by-army. There's so much design room for representing disorganization or collapse of coherence.

Honestly something like a +1 to wound battleshocked units, in addition to that would be perfect. Not great, but it would actually give a reason to use "Inflicted battleshock" type abilities

An idea I had, "During your command phase you can have each character force an enemy unit within 12" to take a battleshock test. No unit can be forced to take more than 1 test by this ability per turn." Tons of potential for swings, shocking an enemy on a point or denying defensive stratagems for a whole turn.

The new Accursed rules (if it is fully replacing the regen) will be change my use for them as I used them as a tarpit unit. Bit sad, but ah well going to have to relearn how to use them.

Would be nice if night lords had something similiar to deamons where if a battle shocks goes off and is in range of a unit reducing their leadership they take mortal wounds. Would mean you could get alot of free damage for just being near the enemy. Either forcing battleshocks or later in the game when battleshocks are going off more on their own. Maybe battleshocked units let your units get plus 2 to charge rolls? It's not great, but it'd be something. Alpha legions detachment looks kinda fun but will definetly be living and dying on if their strats and enhancements are good. Cause just having a bunch of infiltrators won't win you a game. Renegade raiders looks fun. Very aggressive shooting detachment, reminds me alot of firestorm detachment, will also help make up for boltguns having no AP and essentially turning all your marines into having primaris bolt rifles if the target is on an objective(Plus dark pacts) If it's got good enhancements and strats that could be super strong The other videos showing the deamon engines detachment looks super fun. Very high risk with all the potentiall to mortal wound yourself more but with alot of benefits. Cultist detachment feels like it could be super fun but have alot of issues. Accursed cultists getting unlimited reaction moves for losing models seems like a great way to force yourself across the board. So I think that could be a detachment that works and is super fun, but is miserable if you're in a bad matchup or the dice just aren't going your way. Blast basically gonna be the bane of that detachment. Alongside the desperate pacts probably taking alot of models too. But it does perfectly exemplify the 'cultists just madly run at the enemy like fodder' kind of idea. Firebrand was definetly put into help this detachment. Black legions detachment I can't exactly say what it will do yet. But definetly is aiming towards the marines side of the army. Getting dev wounds alongside movement and shoot options, and the auto 6 to flamers idea really pointing to stuff like elite units gaining massive benfits. Imagine Terminators dark pacting for sustained and then getting a ton of devs? Hopefully the detachment rule is cool. Slaves to darkness being renamed, khorne henhancement getting a slight nerf. We'll see if they retool the detachment a bit. Iron warriors is now theone we've seen the least now. But it's obviously gonna be sort of like a chaos equivelent to anvil siege I suppose. But will be more aggressive instead of 'stand still for more bonuses, and hold the line" Already with one enhancement it will be aiming to dismantle vehicles and fortifications(adly fortifications are kinda..... bad right now.

Nightlords should have a minus 2 to leadership tests and a bonus to hitting battleshocked units. Also, they should have rules that give buffs for outnumbering their opponents because they only target weak enemies to torment them. If they just have a minus 1 to leadership it will suck.

I really hope they don't fumble the Nightlords detachment all I want is for leadership to be affected by them, some bonuses to cutting down fleeing models and minuses to hit if battle shocked.

If that enhancement is cheap enough, and the jump pack lord is too, it could act like that one assassin, just popping around the edge of the board doing secondaries.

Imagine to give up the current index detachment, which synergies very well with dark pact and is strong, just to get a 12" -1 Leadership debuff. I hope there will be more, but I have my doubts.

I don't expect major changes to battle shock before 11th, but I think that it should be something only triggered by abilities instead of happening as a result of normal damage. I think it would play better into most army fantasies that their elite super-soldiers don't get frightened by normal casualties, while the armies that specifically use fear as a weapon get to mechanically be more frightening than death itself.

I like that it's 'battleshocked' and not 'afraid' or anything. Battleshocked might mean buried by rubble, knocked flat on your back, deafened by an explosion, something that scrambles you bad enough that it affects your ability to perform. I get your point, it makes no sense for space marines to run like frightened children, or daemons or robots or bugs to feel emotions at all, but following that logic leads to every other edition where the only three armies that actually experienced the morale phase of the game was Orks, Tau and Guard. Space Marines are fearless, but they can still be knocked silly by concussive blasts, or be made to spend time wiping corrosive acid off of their armour, etc.

If they want Battle Shock to be a thing, then they need to separate it from being just another LD. Rather, a LD with negative modifiers from the get go - AKA, the very notion of taking a Battle Shock test would say, be a LD test, but with a basic -1 modifier. They also need to ditch units auto-rallying at the start of the CP. Again.. there isn't any cohesive direction at GW at the moment when talking about how they want this game to play.

I’ve barely played bigger games than combat patrol and so I didn’t realize until a few days ago that all his keywords count as marks for the whole unit when dark pacting. He is already nerfed before I ever got to do that, Sweet……..

The battle shock reliant rules are so crap they are essentially the same power as other rules but have a really unreliable trigger. Like if it’s going to be +1 to hit or wound when battleshocked what’s the point other armies get that with easier and more reliable abilities. Make it like sustained hits 2 or lethal hits on a 4 plus so at least when it does happen it actually is scary

So, this might not be totally relevant to this particular video, but how do current CSMs stack up to Astartes? Back in the day, they were mostly the same, and when Astartes got two Wounds, and better lascannon, I do think CSMs snagged those, too, because Alpha Legion shenanigans, but a great deal of effort was taken to "improve" the Loyalist Space Marines, with the Primaris literally being "better", and now they are the main aspect of the Astartes. I bring it up, though, because I don't recall GW really making the couple of units of Firstborn that much worse, as they continue to try and phase the old models out, and ford the characters across the Rubicon Primaris, yet nothing shoyld have been done to the Traitor Astartes, and Fabius Bile's "New Men" are simplyvan option, not a favtion-wide upgrade, like Primaris was, so do they still stand similar to Loyalists, statwise, even as the Primaris are bigger, with extra bits, and improved gear? Just curious.

The primaris are regular marines now, with no difference with chaos ones. Guns are slightly better.

I have never seen such a grand setting with distinct armies, have such a bloat of rules while having as you say, no unique flavour whatsoever. All armies have the same rules with a different name.

Unfortunately, battleshock/leadership based things don't work too well in this game. I mean - you can't rely on the leadership/battleshock mechanics at all.

Who is currently going to use Traitor Guardsmen at 70pts when cultists are 50 anyways? Even worse, who is going to pay for the Traitor Enforcerer & Ogryn to buff them? :-P

Traitor guardsmen have been excellent at 70pts. I always run 2-3 squads and they always put in work. At OC2 the enemy is forced to do something, or else we are putting OC20 on an objective. And if they ignore them, their special weapons can do some damage with dark pacts, especially a nice melta shot. 20 extra points for triple the special weapons and double the OC is no joke.

@@sevsevrudzik6592 I think you must be the only one then. :-) I can't ever recall seeing them in any high-level competitive list. But if you've had success with them, that's cool. I just think they are a bit too expensive (I'd reconsider at 60 pts for sure) and I think the Traitor Enforcerer is not worth using at his cost at all to support them. I'd love to see both have more of a use though.

@@runeh3022 true, they are not common at all. There was one person who took 3 squads in 3 land raiders to a tourney and they did decent, but it was not a major level tournament or anything. I play just local at the FLGS and have a near 100 percent win rate with them, but I would probably also get my ass kicked at an actual tournament haha. A 10 point drop would certainly make them tourney viable I think!

Granted, he plays Orcs and Nids, so he quickly overruns the modfield more often than not. :-/ At 6o pts they'd certainly be decent I think. Depends a little on what is lost for them in terms of the new codex.

Battle shock is so worthless lol Horus heresy has the best night lords at least in 9th edition they had cool warlord traits and relics. We will get like one or two good detachments and it will be considered a “good” codex. This edition is so lackluster

Im not exactly hyped for these detachments, theyre kind of anemic compared to the marks, unless the marks are being folded into the army rule, which isnt happening since the pact bound zealots exist.

Obviously Pact-Bound Zealots is good, the index has proven that. Dark Pacts is still fine on its own though, army-wide lethal or sustained is nothing to sneeze at, especially when you combine it with the other detachment rules we will be getting.

​@Aaron-wv5si CSM will still be good, as you said, dark pacts is a solid army rule. But Pact bound zealots is a good detachment rule, it's customizable, versatile, and fluffy. While for example, dread talons is only a -1 to battleshock within 12 inches, while that is fluffy for a night lords army, it's not nearly as strong of a rule and could use something else. I feel the same way about the alpha legion rule, handing out infiltrator to Legionaries and cultists is pretty good, but it use something else. Although the Renegades and Heretics detachment looks fun, gaining assault and +1 ap when attacking on an objective are both solid buffs

Really not a fan of 10th edition codex’s they allways seem to force you to take one type of unit to benifit from the detachments. And also the index detachments allways seem better than codex ones The only way I could see these working for me specifically is if you could take multiple detachments in one list like a 1000 pts of this detachment and 1000 pts of that detachment

Once again, detachment proves to be the biggest mistake of 10th (an edition basically built up of mistakes). People LOVE subfactions and want them to have MORE unique identities, but instead of doing that, GW decided to totally erase subfactions from the game and instead make "generic detachments" which are basically a watered down version of thos, minus the faction identity. Battleshock is another obvious mistake of 10th. Everyone with a brain knew from day 1 that mechanic was poorly designed and would end up being bad all around, but they pushed it front and center for this edition.
