NBA on TNT's Charles Barkley joins the Dan Patrick Show and shares his thoughts on the greatness of Iowa's Caitlin Clark after she broke the women's college basketball all-time scoring record
Stop it. How can she be the best if she's NEVER won an NCAA Title Championship? That would be like saying Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Dominique, Nash, AI, etc is the greatest player ever in the NBA. Neither of them won a ring and neither has Caitlin Clark
A straight baller all the way around plays defense. Caitlin is an offensive threat, but a liability on defense. The Iowa coach does a good job of hiding her defensively.

@@erikpeterson25 Try and think of any player in any sport who was considered the greatest player of all-time without having won a title, ring, belt, etc in their sport? I'll save you the trouble...there isn't such a person. To be considered the best, you have to lead your team to win a title.

@@brucechristensen2161 Well, technically, the other Auburn grad Bo Jackson is the best. But I love me some Charles Barkley (and he and Bo Jackson are friends) WAR EAGLE!
Good on Charles for pointing out there are other women who have not been recognized for their achievements in basketball. But also acknowledging what Caitlin is doing for women's basketball. Maybe now Lynette Woodard and Pearl Moore will be acknowledged by our present day journalists. More press for the NCAA!
The only reason Charles brought her up is because he hates having to give respect recognition to a white player!!!! Charles is extremely racist… look up the interviews when he and Julius Irving jumped Larry Bird .. Charles held down Larry’s arms so he could not protect himself as they beat on him.. it’s total bullshit … Shaq is the same way he is a wealthy man but refuses to invest any money in business owned by white people .. he has publicly said this he only likes to invest money into black owned companies….. come on guys give respect we’re respect is due and bury racism
@@TimWong49152you need a serious history lesson. The NBA wasn’t even a league that was taken seriously before Magical and Bird. A lot of the NBA playoffs games weren’t even being televised when they came into the league. Games that were were often on tape delay, due networks not wanting to play the games in prime time, since rating were so low, also most teams were losing money, think of the WNBA today, but quite as bad. The game exploded during the 80’s due to Magic and Bird. Jordan also helped when he entered the league in the mid 80’s. But, he didn’t take over until the early 90’s when the Bulls won 6 championships. The Lakers, Celtics, and then Pistons owned the 80’s. There wouldn’t have been fans interested in Jordan and the Bulls, if not for Bird and Magic.
@@TimWong49152 Nonsense...Bird and Magic were the guys...their rivalry that began in the 1979 NCAA playoffs continued into the NBA and created a greater level of interest YEARS b4 MJ came along. Don't knw about you ...but I lived that through that rivalry from beginning to end

One person doesn’t Win a championship no matter how good they are. With that said don’t take anything away from her. She is still the best rather she wins a championship or not.
Why is it necessary to give a man credit for a woman's success? Curry is the reason for Caitlin's success? Caitlin is the reason for Caitlin's success!!.
@@jackieambrose8100 No actually you missed the point. Steph Curry’s approach to the 3 point shot changed the game much like analytics has changed baseball and football. Caitlin Clark is a great player and likely would have been even without the influence of Curry on how the game is played, but and this is the real point, she probably wouldn’t be the NCAA’s leading female scorer because she wouldn’t be scoring so many points on three point shots if Curry hadn’t been instrumental in making them an essential part of the game rather than simply part of the game more than a decade ago.

Glad to hear CB acknowledge CC accomplishments but why talk about how long other people have been in NCAA? Is this the same unjustified argument that Cheryl Swoopes made saying it was hard to recognize the record because CC got an extra year due to COVID. She also said CC is 25 years old and averages approx 40 shots a game. For the record, CC played 4 years, turned 22 in January and averages 19.7 shots a game.. Did anyone make these arguments when Plum broke the record ?

In approximately 2 games (80 pts) Clark will have beat Woodard’s record also. As well, she’s less than 100 points away from overtaking the men’s record in the same division as hers. Give credit where it’s due.
@@jc940 He set his record in only 83 games. 40+ points a game. Freshmen couldn’t play varsity then. And there was no three-point line. Props to Clark (she’s currently at 126 games) but nobody will break Pete’s record.
Caitlin Clark is the biggest sure thing that the WNBA has ever had. Yet I have this feeling they are going to mess it up and try and put her in her place as a rookie. I have zero faith in the WNBA not fumbling the bag.
Even they should have sense enough not to try and kill the golden goose...CC and a future rivalry with a Reese could be Bird - Magic for the WNBA, no joke
Woodard should be considered the current record holder for D1 women's basketball. Clark will pass her in 3-4 games... same with Pete's mark. Pearl Moore did not play in D1... she played in a lower division... same as NCAA DII or DIII

What about Pearl Moore, who played for Francis Marion, (a college) who scored 4061 I believe, under the AIAW college league, it dissolved and that's when woman's NCAA came in, a record that's still like 45 years old.
Yes! Huge respect to Lynette Woodard 🙌🏽 3,649 was her record. I honestly feel like Caitlin might break hers and Pete’s record tho so we’ll see. But record or not, respect respect respect to all of them
I'm an Iowa fan, and obviously a huge fan of Caitlin Clark, but the fact that Lynette Woodard is not recognized as the current all time scoring leader in Division 1 WBB is stupid. I'm sure Caitlin will break her record in 2-3 games from now, but Lynette definitely deserves recognition as the top scorer as of now.
Pete Maravich did not have a 3-point line. I DON'T mean that as a criticism of Caitlin Clark, far from it. BUT, I once read that if Pete had had a 3-point line, he would have averaged 60 points a game. Huh? 60 points a game?

Agree on Lynette Woodard. They need to merge the Div 1 equivalent schools pre NCAA. 1) she played in the 1970s & 80s not the 1920s when the men were under the NCAA & 2) they recognize the coaches records from that rime. ;)
Funny, i never heard of Woodard until Iowa invited her to the national televised game at Iowa. Iowa showed her love and acknowledged her achievements at age 60 something. She said how well iowa was doing for womens basketball. Then shit on Caitlin a week later. She was great i'm sure but she shit on Clark and Iowa affer all the love they showed her!
Ive never wat hed a womans basketball game more then 5 minutes. But ive watched Clare for 10 games straight. She will go down as the greatest influance in woman's basketball in history.
Barkley is a pain in the ass in some things .... BUT, HE IS NOT BIASED NOR PLAYING FAVORITES when it comes to assessing talent in sports. Much appreciated, Sir ! GBjj
Caitlin is only 22 and not a Doctor yet. She has not even completed her 4th year and broke the record for the NCAA women in the least time. Nobody mentioned that. Who would have dreamed Caitlin would be treated like Tim Tebow ?
Hockey may not be your thing, but I would like to recommend a comparable of Connor Bedard's seamless transition from Junior hockey in Canada to the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL.
Lynette Woodard wasn't ignored, unfortunately, her points came under 2 different sanctioning bodies, the AIAW and NCAA, because Kansas switched in '82 when the NCAA began women's tournaments. And Lynette isn't the high scorer of either. If you included the AIAW then Pearl Moore, the all-college all-time leader takes over with 4061 points. But the biggest hypocrisy of this issue is Grace Beyer of the NAIA just finished her collegiate career as their leading scorer 100 points shy of Pearl with 3,961 points during the same time as Caitlin was chasing Plum.
Charles has always called it like he sees it. As for Caitlin, phenomenal player. She shoots better than most men in the NBA. I am not surprised they won; however, Angel has nothing to hang her head about.
Has anyone actually ever been to a WNBA game? Has anyone actually watch old video of the WNBA back in the early years and up to today? The game has improved so much since the days of Swoopes - if you watch old tape of Swoopes you would soon realize that she technically would not be as good today in the WNBA. But with even that said - the WNBA is just flat out hard to watch - which makes it even harder to pay to go watch. I've did so for about 3-4 times a year for 3 years because of my daughters (who played basketball) but when they turned 15 & 16 they said they would rather go watch the NBA, men's college or even the local high school boys play. The game lacks speed, athleticism, creativity, excitement. Caitlin seems to have the ability to create excitement - but the pettiness of Swoopes reared her ugliness and tried to blow out a flame that could help the WNBA. The woke ALWAYS ends up destroying everything they touch.
I went to several WNBA games and followed my two favorite teams for some time, but the past few years I’ve been disinterested in most pro sports because the political/equity factor has diminished the pure entertainment I used to feel in watching the competition.
High School Women 6-on-6 basketball existed for a Long Time (rarely discussed), AND Many current Women’s coaches played under that system ! - Title IX started that change.
how long until Title IX starts getting attacked and eroded into non-existence since many places are now allowing men to compete in women's sports? Seems like there is no need for separate programs, just need one basketball team and may the best players make the team.
I couldn't agree more. My daughter didn't have the skill to play HS Basketball, but I sure saw girls who did. I have to wonder how many young women lost out because of 6-on-6. @@ronm6359
INTERESTING! I've pondered about making the NBA more exciting by going to 4-on-4! Since men seem 'longer' than they maybe used to be, it's harder to spread the floor. Just a passing thought.

Can Caitlin Clark catch Pistol Pete this year? Would love to see her do it but I know there might be backlash because pistol did it in 3 years but that would still be humongous accomplishment.
Plus pistol was before the 3 pointer, and still averaged over 40. Freshman weren’t allowed to play varsity back then. Just different eras, different game. Wish her well, stay in college and make the NIL $, probably make more than the wnba pays.
@@gregghodge6130Forget seasons, let's talk shots...Yes and he shot 39 times (check sports reference) a game because HIS DAD was the coach, and only made 43%. Also, schools weren't entirely integrated at that time in the south. Look at the team picture, and you catch my drift. He was playing 5'4 Jethro from down the block. So, you can diminish Clark, but everyone can easily diminish this overrated dope from the 60s.
Please read again, I did not “ diminish” her , I wish her the best. Different time, different game. The ball alone is a different size, smaller than men’s. It’s like comparing Bob Cousy to MJ to Steph Curry.
43%. SO WHAT? Just out of curiosity, did you EVER do any comparisons on shot percentages? Somebody did a study of his shots. If there had been a 3-point line he would have averaged 60 points a game. SO, where do you think his shots were coming from? Yeah, his Dad was the coach. And his Dad really was not much of a recruiter (apparently). If you think he was playing '5'4" Jethro from down the block', you sure as F&&K don't know much about NCAA Basketball.
Agree with Barkley that there is no point in comparing Caitlin Clark to Pistol Pete. They play different games. It’s like comparing high school sports to college sports or college to pro. Doesn’t take anything away from Caitlin who is remarkable and the greatest female basketball player ever.
Lynette has not been denied nor disrespected. She is given full credit for the D1 record. Clark';s record is NCAA. Why is that so hard for people to get? Either way, Clark will still be #1 overall in 2 or 3 games. And don't talk about Moore, who basically played in the minor leagues, JC and D2. Not the same or even close.
How can there be a dispute as to who has the most career points? Pearl Moore scored over 4061...Lynette Woodard scored 3649 and Caitlin Clark has somewhere North of 3500 as of today...It's not heir fault that the NCAA chooses not to recognize their body of work that includes points before they were in the NCAA...If Clark stays at Iowa for her COVID year...she will undoubtedly break both of these records...Now that there is NIL money involved in the equation...I think she will break both if she stays.
and the Green Bay Packers have won { 13 } NFL championships in total, two 3 peats in that time, OH WAIT, most of that was before they changed to the " Super Bowl " format. Caitlin could beat Pearl Moores scoring record and STILL not be good enough because Pearl didn`t get credit for 3 point shots, current times are current times and now it is the NCAA format.
The ncaa and other college organizations got the COVID year crap all wrong. Dude playing college sports at 24 is crazy. But it also killed high school kids dreams because the didn’t get an extra year. The got onto college teams like baseball that’s had expanded COVID rosters. I know several that just walked a way because they had zero chance of getting playing time When they could start kids 4 and 5 years older. That were bigger and stronger.
What Caitlin Clark has done is amazing, but I do feel like the scoring records should be separated between the no 3 point era that Pistol Pete played in, and the 3 point era we have today. In the same way that LeBron became the first player to score 40,000 points, but in truth many of the great players he passed never had a 3 point line, nor 3 foul shots for a foul out beyond it.
3 point line? Rule changes benefitting offense? These things are worthy to note on why comparisons are meaningless. Throw in the fact that women are starting younger, training has improved, and coaching of young women has evolved. For me, more important than the records is the impact all these women have had on the game and the "we got next" of upcoming female ballers. Caitlin is amphenom..a phenom. NUFF SAID,
Hey Glad she bring light on WNBA because the NBA made it a one on one game. You get 4 years of eligibility and tough coming in at 17 and 18 to compete with men. Remember most these athletes this is it so they redshirt one year no big deal. Also Clark did it in 4 so what is this about?
Every female who has played, currently playing or will play in the WNBA has had, currently has or will have the opportunity to dominate in the league. CAITLIN CLARK brings an excitement to the game that those who came before had the opportunity to do but, failed to do. The way she plays the game causes the spotlight to be on her, the efficiency of her scoring causes the fans to stand and scream her name. WNBA players, STOP WHINNING !!!! Instead of hating he, UP YOUR GAME and be like her, be better than her and the spotlight will shine on you also. Sports commentators will cry out your name and call you the best that's ever played the game. The OPPORTUNITY is yours, don't complain because she's taking advantage of hers.
The NBA no longer puts an emphasis on defense, so why are we talking about Caitlin Clark being a WNBA superstar? She could easily average double figures in the NBA.
The girl got more game than throwing it up. She got, hate to say this it’ll sound,,”patriarchy”, but CC has guy game. She has a skill look that many many female ball players just don’t have. Larry Birdesque.
I'm so glad when I heard Charles Barclay saying he probably had to take a private jet to watch a basketball game.. he hasn't bought into the OC print effect on global warming 😅
People who think Caitlin is the greatest player of all time have not seen other WNBA players play. Ellena Delle Donne had over 3000 pts in NCAA while missing 22 games. She never had anywhere near this level of PR press coming out of college. Caitlin will have a lot more trouble in the WNBA with much better defensive players.
