Charles Ingalls and his family lived in Desmet, SD and the majority of them lived and died there. This is a video of where they lived and died. I have the house that Charles built, the farm where they were, and their burial places. If you are slightly interested in Little house on the prairie, this should help it come alive for you.

Thank you for sharing this in spite of your challenges. I’m a long time Laura Ingalls Wilder fan, and visited her home in MO when I was 12. Because of my challenges I may never make it to Desmet, so it was a real treat to see what you saw. Thanks again, and good luck with the sciatica! 🙏🫶

I truly appreciate your very kind words. As I reply to you, my sciatica came back about a month ago. I am working on it again to get it to go away. I love when my videos help others. I've not been to Laura's house in Missouri. I do hope to get there someday and make a video of it as well. Take care of yourself and I hope you'll go with me on some of my other travels and journeys.

@@lauraprincipato8079 I have never gone to one. I just do a series of stretches and exercises until I finally work it out. Sciatica is a true pain I don't wish on anyone. I appreciate your concern. I hope you do not suffer from sciatica.

Not only are most of the family still together ❤ but the same prairie wind still blows. The real life struggles this family endured, immortalized in Laura's books, are amazing. Thank you for filming this. Yes it's AlMANzo (never cared for the tv show), but it's so kind of you to share this those who cannot travel. 😊

Charles Ingalls also had a son named Frederick "Freddy" Ingalls (1875 - 1876). Freddy was buried on Peter's Farm (Charles brother). The farm no longer exists and Freddy's grave location is unknown at this time. Laura Ingalls did not include him in her books because her memories of him were too painful, although he was included in the show that aired in December 1974 with Ernest Borgnine as the guest star.

@@DannyFyffeNo problem. I've never read any of the Ingalls books, but have seen most of the "Little House..." shows. There's another youtuber who did a segment on the graves of those who played in the show. I think his channel is "Famous Graves with Steve."

Also, they didn’t have the time the Ingalls lived in Burr Oak, Iowa in the books, because it was considered going east. It was during this time that Freddie died, and Grace was born. It’s why the books swapped the time between Wisconsin and Kansas. Rose wanted the Ingalls to always be moving West.

Mistake at 5:54 “Laura never actually lived in this home” This is the house she described in one of her books, possibly Little Town On The Prairie, about living in the town in a house made of store bought lumber
@DannyFyffe
@DannyFyffe Год назад
According to the sign at the house, Laura was already married and never lived there. She did live a mile or 2 out of town.
@lauraprincipato8079
@lauraprincipato8079 Год назад
@@DannyFyffe Sorry, but I think the info on the sign was wrong as far as the date of its construction and when her family resided there. In her book, she mentions Almanzo picking her up on dates from that house 🤷‍♀️

@@lauraprincipato8079 Pa built a store building, which he later sold. They lived in it during the wintertime of some of her teen years. Later, Pa built a home in the town, after he "proved up" on the homestead and sold it. He was 52 years old and maybe ready to live an easier life than farming. This was after Laura's marriage, so she never lived there.
@middlelle
@middlelle Год назад
Laura married Almanzo while Pa was still proving up the homestead. He did build a building in town where they were in from Silver Lake to The First Four Years. The building was made with the extra lumber left when the railroad company (that Pa had worked for) moved west to lay more track. Once Pa earned the homestead, he sold the land and moved Ma, Mary and himself into the house that was pictured. Laura never lived there, but it’s where Pa and Ma died. The house that Pa built with new lumber was the one outside of Walnut Grove, Minn, during the book On the Banks of Plum Creek.

@user-wi9hv2pb2q 11 месяцев назад
That was the store building on main, this house was built by Charles Ingalls on 3rd street (if I remember correctly) after they sold and moved off the claim. He raised more cattle later in life and provided for his wife and girls by leaving them a large house so they could rent out rooms. He always provided for them, even after he was gone.

@DannyFyffe I wonder if gravestone rubbings are permitted; they sometimes make the information more easy to read. Hold a blank piece of (usually) white paper (such as a sheet of news print paper, that some artists use for sketching) on the gravestone info you want to read, and lightly rub over the info with a pencil, or an artist's charcoal or graphite stick. This doesn't harm the gravestone, as far as I know, but I suppose some gravestones might be generally protected from any touching or interaction.
@DannyFyffe
@DannyFyffe Год назад
@@dawnkindnesscountsmost5991 I don't know if it's allowable. Since all of those graves were chained off I would assume no touching is the rule. I appreciate the idea though. Thanks for watching and commenting too
