While I do think Charlie's opinions on Luffy are hella unbased (though, also incredibly valid), I heavily respect him. Hopefully he grows to like him as time goes on. I just wonder what he'll think about Amazon Lily, because that arc really is meant to show how inept Luffy is without his crew.

I absolutely love Bleach. Sure it has it's flaws but what anime doesn't? Ichigo is a very down-to-Earth protagonist with a very simple goal: to protect as many people as his two hands can carry. Kubo is also a master of story telling as he hinted at the Quincy's return as early as Ch. 45 and Ichigo's connection to the Quincy as early as Ch. 1 (look at his bedsheets). The Fullbringer arc was also important to Ichigo's character as he had the power to protect but now has to deal with the fact he can't. He wanted to be normal and not see ghost, well he got his wish and now he regrets it. It also allowed his Hollow powers to be put on display while also answering what Orihime and Chad are. And with the Thousand Year Blood War back and dominating again, we can expect Kubo to fix and improve the final arc to his story

My favorite Bleach filler arc was getting the Zanpakuto back, especially how the villain (Muramasa? maybe?) had to literally remove Hyourinmaru's memory in order to separate him from Toshiro. Their bond was that strong 🙂 Seeing them fight and reunite was my single favorite filler arc scene.

I disagree with most of Charlie's takes, especially his takes on Luffy. But like....it's fine to have opinions, and there is valid things he's bringing up. I don't get why anime fans on twitter are the most psychotic people to exist.

Ichigo vs Aizen still in my opinion remains the best fight in the whole series.

Even though I'm a Bleach fan, i really don't feel offended beacuse it's just a person giving his opinion and it doesn't affect me in any way.

I’m slowly reading through One Piece. I’m on chapter 157. And Charlie isn’t really wrong. Luffy can be annoying but he grows. I love Bleach too. And he’s not wrong about filler either. But to each their own opinion.

Hating on Bleach because you didn't like the fillers and watched 200 of them. When you could have spend 2 minutes looking for a guide on what to watch. That is certainly a take...

I disagree with everything he is saying, but it's a valid opinion that others have felt. He is at least still trying to get into it unlike others. Imo, that will allow him to appreciate his growth further

The part with the hand through the chest with the aim of killing, literally happens twice in the whole series. Once with Grimmjow doing it to Luppi Second time with ulquiorra doing it to Ichigo. Thats it . There's the part where Sado fights against Nnoitra and punches him in the stomach but it's not a hand through the chest with the aim of killing, And there's the moment when Aizen supposedly puts a hand through Rukia's chest but really he separates her soul to get to Hogyoku And the part where Ginjo stabs a sword into Ichigo's chest (and there is also Rukia who does it twice) and none of these examples fit "a hand through the chest with the intention of killing" except for the two I said where that IS happens. So he is wrong.

The bount arc really pushed me to my limits

Hey, just for reference "m8s" is an abbreviation of "mates", which is British or Aussie slang for "friends". I think great art often creates debate and can be wildly subjective, so therefore can produce a spectrum of opinions. I respect Charlie for being true to himself and offering his takes, knowing they wont always be received well. At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to an opinion, especially in the creative sphere.

While i may not agree with Charlie's opinions on these topics, his bleach takes hurt me physically, but he is entitled to his own opinion. Hell I have some hot takes too, I like Wonderweiss, Dordoni, and Ywhach. And I actually like some of the filler stuff, I liked the Zanpakuto Rebellion Arc, and Ashido Kanō is one of, if not the drippiest character in Bleach, the hollow mask cloak goes HARD! I also thing Soi Fon is best girl FIGHT ME!

I think the majority wouldn't have an issue with his take on One Piece or Luffy if he didn't originally go into the show trash talking it and seemingly wanting to hate it from the outset. Of course, there will still be people who think his take is trash one way or another, but it wouldn't have gotten to where it is now in the OP community if he went in with an open mind from the very beginning.

You watch Naruto but dislikes the MC and no one says a word. You watch One Piece but dislikes the MC and everyone loses their minds

Personal opinion, not the biggest fan of One Piece but from what I have watched, I do like Luffy quite a bit. But otherwise I don't hate Charlie for his takes. Its valid for a person to have an opinion. But if I disliked an opinion I would rather debate it with them, than make a snide remark about them behind their back.

It's because he got the character wrong. There're moments when Luffy is serious and understands the situation better than other characters. He sees solution in more simple way than others, and thinks that the past of the person doesn't matter. It's enough for him if that person asks for help. He also has his own beliefs and follows his own sense of justice, even capable of putting his pride aside. One Piece fans can understand that you may not like this or that character, but only if you understand that character right and still don't like him. This is a prime example of person not understanding the character right, that's why people start rioting. That's all.

I can't understand how he can get to ennies lobby and completely miss the point on luffy. I saw a breakdown response of luffy up to the part charlie got to and the guy pointed to many instances of luffy and his emotional maturity.

Like he cared enough to curse him out lol This is why people consider One Piece to have the worst fanbase… over My Hero Academia fanbase who pairs children together with X rated content

Honestly I wouldn’t really say all the filler arc’s are bad, since the bankai arc was pretty good. since they can get very creative on the fights.🤔🐱

I’ll be the bigger man here and say that Charlie is allowed to believe, think and have his own opinions as much as I can do the same. And imo Luffy is hands down my favorite anime/manga character for all of his nuances, he’s unapologetically childish and dumb but when the time comes for him to step in he acts as the wisest old monk you’ll ever see, my absolute favorite moment with him is his little scuffle with Vivi where he shows having a bigger understanding of the big picture and the conflict of Alabasta than any other of his crewmates even knowing Vivi’s intentions better than herself. That and “kidnapping” Rebecca to make her reunite with her dad, it shows such a unique and nuanced way to portray a humble, good natured protagonist without feeling preachy. Charlie can hate Luffy, but as it is he’s only another guy on the world, that’ll never stop me from loving the Rubber goofball for all of his extraordinary moments.

Yea, Luffy has many bad qualities and despite those he inspires a lot of people to fight for their dreams.

Honestly I think he deserves the criticisms of what he has to say about Luffy. But he is entitled to his opinion and I respect that.

Yeah the problem with the Aizen saga is that it does feel overlong, and I read the fillerless manga. The beginning and the ending were great but the middle kinda dragged. Also totally get not liking Luffy, and these hate comments need to chill. The fact that Charlie doesn’t like him shows that Luffy has a personality imo.

im gonna need to agree with charlier on a lot of this. luffy is probably the strawhat with the least growth as a character (until probably marineford, where someone dies for the 2nd time in the series), he's highly uninteresting in most scenarios, and the few times that he is interesting, its because his crew is involved, not because of himself.

I can’t believe he said he hates Part 4. That’s easily the best part 😭 to each their own though.

I stopped watching long animes because of filler (and in one piece's case because of lenght and old style that while good stretches things a lot) and started mostly reading. I never even watched Bleach, I only read the manga and loved it. With One Piece, I read the manda and I watched the anime literally just for the Wano arc because its so cool

While I dont disagree with him about Luffy the Bleach takes are eh? I get where he is coming at from a filler perspective. They sucked and its why I had the filler guide in the first place(My opinion but honestly I tried going back to rewatch the filler couldnt do it) but yeah I dont agree with Charlie's takes on the rest of Bleach being bad. Especially with TYBW its fucking amazing so far

I dunno, I've had plenty of shows where I don't like the MC, and even if they develop I may find them redeemable or I still hate them. Ain't required to just because they are. They can be hated and people still watch for everything else about the show. There's shows I'll watch because I love the rest of the cast and they have great story to them/great design/just good personality. Just to help give some perspective on Luffy, he’s supposed to be the small guy with big dreams type of character and Charlie is right at how annoying he can be at times or how he’s the reason for a problem. The biggest change up is after Thriller Bark, possibly the worst arc that was carried by Brook and Zoro, where we see the kind of consequences that happens then people punch up at authorities way above them. Even after the battle at Marine Ford we’re given a backstory about how Luffy and Ace became brothers. At that point it is really far into the series and possibly only had real character development for Luffy being a better leader but again that’s roughly halfway through the series. Still I disagree about some of Charlie’s takes.

Ok but his Part 4 take is *somewhat* understandable, I did love it myself, but nothing really happens in it so I understand not liking it I am on episode 35 of One Piece and also hate Luffy, is there a specific set of episodes where it starts getting good? I am mid way through the Arlong arc, and I am just so bored and frustrated...

At least I see why he wouldn’t like Part 4 even though I do for the world building and Billy Kametz’s performance (RIP) but it is the most “slice of life” of the series (even moreso than it’s successor, JoJolion) and of course putting a dent in Joseph’s character by having him commit adultery though I’m assuming it’s moreso the former than the latter than he doesn’t like since that’s specifically if Joseph was your favorite JoJo and most people expecting a typical shonen setup think it’s boring until Kira shows up

People really need to not take these kinds of opinions so personally or seriously. Even in this comment section. If you’re going to get this judgmental about something, why not reserve that energy for something that is actually important. He’s talking about anime, something fun. Not something serious like laws or personal principles. Like I think CDawgVA has some pretty bad opinions about anime. But I also think he’s a pretty cool guy and I’m not going to get on his ass for everything I disagree with him on. I’m not his friend nor his mother. I don’t agree with Charlie, but he can have his opinions. And opinions do change over time. I know my opinions about One Piece and Bleach changed a lot as I watched it. And even if it doesn’t- let him be. In the end, I just hope he continues to give more long running anime a chance. (Best Straw Hat is Chopper and I won’t pay mind to naysayers.)

The thing about Jojo is it kind of changes genre for each different part you watch. Part 1 was a Victorian tale with Vampires, Part 2 set in the 1930's, and Part 3 in 1980's and a journey adventure. Part 4 is considered the slice of life part since it's mainly the cast just running into trouble in their town, relatively wholesome compared to the rest besides some bits and the climax. So a lot of people consider it boring when they just want to watch the action parts. Personally, I really liked Part 4, but I can understand why some prefer adventure

the person who said don't watch one piece if you don't like luffy needs to shut up. Foutonenately One Piece isn't only about the MC, I love him but people don't need to like luffy. It's not hard to see why someone could find him annoying. I personally think causing trouble is the point in some of the things he does, but I get how that could drive someone crazy. I do disagree with one thing. I don't think the crew was ever in trouble because Luffy was stupid, more because he didn't take something seriously. Luffy is only serious when he needs to be, other wise he treats life like it's one big joyride. Personally I think that's great. Not everyone will, and that's ok.

I honestly agree with his opinion on Luffy it’s why I don’t watch the show I think I only saw about the first 50 episodes or so and then I just couldn’t tough it out anymore and I quit and every time I see a new trending clip or arc or whatever from the show that someone’s passing around tick-tock, or some thing, it never ever has made me want to go back and re-watch it. In fact, it almost always makes me think thank God I dropped it and didn’t waste my time.

I don’t understand because Luffy is dumb yea but he’s also emotionally mature probably more in tune with emotions than anyone else in the series and that’s where he really shines, well for me that’s why he really connected with me. He really understand his and other peoples emotions to a point where it’s almost like he can see into their mind. It’s why he’s my favorite character but to each their own I guess.

people seem to be overblowing this whole thing. most comments in the video didn't really seem to bad just people disagreeing and saying that moist didn't get the point of luffy's character which is true but i don't really blame him either you can miss a lot of things that makes luffy interesting him not finding luffy's gags funny is fair though. you can easily miss the what makes luffy so good especially if he doesn't give you a good impression from the start. he also mainly seems interested in the serious side of one piece rather than the goofy side so i'm sure he's gone love post time skip a lot more than pre time skip. his bleach opinions are just garbage though i'm sorry i love the man but that was some pretty bad opinions but hey to each there own i guess. idk why this needed a video honestly the people just seem to give there own opinion on it there not really being toxic like usual at least most of them seem respectful at least .

At some point we really need to separate and fix Opinion vs Statement. Subjective vs Objective And saying something like it's a statement and calling it an opinion. I'm honestly like Luffy but I understand where he's coming from. Also,I'm glad to this day that I've never seen the anime Skypiea Arc. I read it in the manga and it became my 3rd favorite arc!! I heard the special of the arc was better.

As for not liking the MC of a show these people do realize that alot of people prefer Vegeta over Goku right?😅 As for his Bleach takes I'll agree he's not wrong about the Bount Arc. I recently rewatched it and it doesn't hold up to the potential it could've had. Thankfully alot of the filler improved afterwards but it's still a big black mark on its record.

I get Charlie's point (I'm not the biggest fan of Gon) but also that's kinda why the characters like Luffy aren't the brightest to extend the story and keep the reader entertained. And didnt Oda say something about smart main characters vs dumb ones. Like how his orginal series kinda died (that zoro is based off of) because the main character was too effective. Just saying that charlie can compare the two kinds of mains by the same author.

People are arguing over the fact that charlie has his honest opinion with the group cast of One Piece and for hilarious dumb reason they hate on him for simply hating Luffy's character. Bare in mind, people have different opinions when it comes to liking an anime, let alone liking the whole crew all together. Take Dragon Ball Z, it's very easy to dunk on Goku given how Goku and Luffy are to some familiarity, similar, but then you can have different opinions with Gohan in Z, depending on which arc we're in. I won't lie I stop watching Bleach for a good while after some point when I recall them needing to go rescue Orihime, I got bored and it didn't help that it wanted to go back to seeing Ichigo's highschool friends to remind me they still exist even thou it's a dire situation of rescuing someone who is suppose to be in Hell. That and I hear that wrote the main villain, Aizen, too powerful to the point of godhood that the writers needed to find some kind of asspole to make it possible to defeat him in later seasons. As for Luffy as a character, it's only when he is fighting a worthy opponent or a opponent that has a funny view point of what it means to be a leader that Luffy will counter argue and fight his very belief. He's someone who treats his crew like family, letting them be who they wanna be and dream big just like he does. They all have this bizarre chemistry magnet that despite all they're difference, the many clobbering and beat downs, they still come together to help someone even if the situation is so dire and should be way out of their league. It's kinda why Black Beard is the perfect rival to Luffy's dream as well as being a leader.

Even as a massive One Piece stan, I can understand Charlie's opinions, no reason to hate on him for that I do have hope that he grows to like it more, maybe Sabaody will address some of his gripes with Luffy

I’ll give Charlie this; he went into One Piece with blatant confirmation bias on it. He was intending not to like it. The fact that its charm wore him down over time is a testament to Oda’s ability. And hey, Water 7/Enies Lobby is a damn good one to be won over by. And we all know the "no death/stakes weh" is gonna be steamrolled as soon as he gets to Sabaody, where all the shit starts getting real.

Wow, shock and horror, mind blown, we don't have to agree on everything. I don't know when the idea that everyone has to like/dislike the same things started, but it's so stupid. Having differences is what makes us human.
