My thoughts too and it hurts to see every example he gives of her helping him being a thing that also helps her. He's built her a PC, been her punching bag, been her content cow even though it makes him unhappy. She put him on a dating show (because it got her revenue, that she doesn't give him), she reassured him she appreciates him (because if she didn't keep him happy she wouldn't get content), but he can't provide a single thing she's done to genuinely help him. And the worst part is he can't voice his pain toward her because she's made him feel like all his progress in the streaming world is because of her, and he's probably scared he couldn't stand on his own without her. He's so nice and he's grateful for what she's done for him, whilst not realising that every benefit he sees has been tagged with a benefit to her. I hope this guy can help himself out of this hole and see what's been done to him, and take his confidence to set his boundaries.

Studied in all things related to psychological trauma for about a year. This is a prime example of what a narcissist latching onto somebody who has great empathy looks like. Literally to the T. Even down to the apologizing and justifications. Sad to see, but this happens all over. Charlie talking with him helps. Even if it doesn't seem like it, some of his responses will stick with him for weeks. He'll really think things through.

He clearly hasn't been treated with much kindness throughout his life (as far as I can tell), and I hope he's not scrolling through these comments because he sadly isn't going to find much here (though there are a few more reasonable comments to be found, such as the ones that say he deserves better). Yes, you can't save someone who doesn't want to be saved, so it is indeed "up to him" as you said, but that doesn't automatically mean that empathising with him and trying to understand where he's coming from is the wrong strategy. In a situation like this, listening + asking questions based on what the other person is saying is always the best way to go. That shows you're actually paying attention to what is being said, which is empathy at its highest level. Beats the hell out of resorting to cheap insults lol as if that'll help 🤦♂

I'm much older than Charlie (51), but I learn from this guy all the time. He has such empathy and is excellent at articulating complex emotional concepts. This was like watching a deep therapy session crossed with an intervention. I hope Dilly takes on board what Charlie was saying to him, it came from a place of deep understanding and empathy. I think I saw in his eyes a couple of times that he understood. Good luck Dilly.
