This is an Awesome video Dr. Berry !! You make me sooo Happy telling people this diet can be done without spending Mega bucks on food items .. Not sure if you have heard about Butter Bob Briggs channel . I found him when I started my Keto journey 3 years ago and he was also helping people on a budget or low income . I'm Healthier than I have been in 10 years - 50 pounds lighter without always buying $ 50.00 pieces of grass fed meats . etc ....Far as I'm concerned I think we are only getting half truths about those foods - Grass fed - pasture raised - wild caught and Organic . Sure they stick a sign on them , but who really knows unless you can see where that food comes from ?
HELL YES HE IS CONSIDERATE WITH ALL OF USSS I FEEL REALLY HAPPY WHEN HE SAID OK THE CHICKEN LEG HAS SOMETHING INJECTED SOME ANTIBIOTICS BUT ITS EVEN BETTER THAN THE CHEETOS AND SNICKERS 🤣 AND OF COURSE THE HOTDOG WITH MUSTARD 🥵🤩
So everything on the shelves in most supermarkets is just soy& corn pumped with tons of fillers, artificial shite tasters,it's not food. Subbed because of this Doc telling the truth&common sense 🤗😀
You can also cut them up, dip in water with lemon juice (so they don't turn brown & yucky looking) then freeze the chunks. They freeze very well. They often run about $2.50 each where I am, sometimes more. Winter is long where I live so many months without local veg. Expensive for spinach etc too. When I look back though & think how much I was OK with spending on crap food... then these veggies are not all that bad expensive :)
This is spot on! I lost 54 pounds in 90 days doing OMAD and eating nothing but keto friendly foods from a chow hall in Afghanistan. No supplements, no snobbery, no BS. This ain’t rocket surgery folks.
@@llllllllllllllIIlIllIIllIIIIll Yes. Yes it is. I was bored. I had nothing else to do but dodge rockets and absolutely OBSESS about my carb intake to see if keto actually works, and it absolutely does if your life doesn’t get in the way. Well, I was in the position where my life wasn’t going to get in the way for several months, so I decided to do a super strict diet and exercise regime to pass the time. Looking back at this comment, I apologize for sounding like such a douche. That’s not how I meant it.
@Cod3Thr33 . Same here. I lost 55 pounds in 3 months eating carnivore, no dairy. Of course, I wasn't dodging IEDs or rockets either. Great job and thanks for what you do.
@@jerricreamer2144, what you did was WAY more of accomplishment than what I did! I didn't have "distractions" like, well, you know...a LIFE! My whole life was eat, sleep, work, work out. Great job!

Hi, Tracey Dixon It has nothing to do with how much you lose weight, glass fed meat/butter and wild caught fishes, it’s all about vitamins, omegas and avoiding cancers causing chemicals containing in animal feeds, I guess
I am a registered nurse of 26 years . Trying to get low fat out of my mind . I am seeing keto work . I forgot how good real butter tastes. God bless you for spreading the work . Cheap carbs and fast food is killing our kids and all ages .

@tharvey311 why are you being a dick? Being a nurse is one of the most unhealthy professions diet-wise there is. Most nurses are overweight, and are constantly snacking. Also it is assumed that they know more about health because that's their main thing. They were taught the science of high carb diets for a long time. I think you should apologize to her even though this is the internet.
Since I have become Keto Adapted, my food consumption has dropped, Im just full all day burning the fat. Therefore I started buying higher quality food and spending the same money. Down 30 lbs since 10/22/17.
I definitely agree. The higher fats in my diet including Keto Coffee of a morning has drastically dropped my food consumption as well and I don't get hungry much. I've included intermittent fasting and am currently on a 18/6 ratio with keto coffee in the morning. I find that if I do hungry during my feeding window, fats are what I want, not sugars, I'm lower in weight now than I have been in 25 years.
The Keto diet is a high fat, low carb diet. I tend to think of it more of a lifestyle choice and not a diet. This is not something that I do for a short time to accomplish a goal. It's something that is part of my life now. I have found recently that too many proteins are also a problem. It increases my blood sugar past the point of where I want it (Just over 100). But mainly, I am on an 18/6 plan ... I fast from about 6:00pm to 12:00pm the next day. I usually have a cup of bullet proof coffee in the morning which does not break my fast. It includes 1 tbs butter, 1 tbs coconut oil and whole cream. Usually my lunch (is more like breakfast) 2 strips of bacon and 2-3 eggs. Then I do dinner (before 6:00pm) that includes about 6 oz of meat and lot of veggies such as broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts and, kale, muchrooms or other low carb veggies. To date, (after 2 months). I've lost 22 lbs, my waist has reduced 3", my pant size down 2, my blood sugar ranges from 70 - 95 either fasting or 1 hour a meal. It's the easiest thing I've ever done to lose weight. I feel great, my energy is extremely high, and my stats are doing well. I'm looking forward to my annual checkup to see how my labs are doing.
Pinky & the Brain, I drive a truck, so for days a week it's two 12 Oz bulletproof Coffee with 50 grams of fat each, a 6 Oz grass fed hamburger with mustard, celery, broccoli, spring mix salad with a keto salad dressing, pecans, and macadamia nuts. The other days it's a variety of foods at the house, bacon, eggs, avocados, steak, chicken, Brussels sprouts, cabbage etc
Tip: around Thanksgiving buy a couple extra turkeys when they’re on super sale and keep in the freezer. Cook them later and get lots of meat for like $0.25/lb
@@KenDBerryMD i tell everyone i know, doc..... I was literally dying of heart failure with an ejection fraction below 15% they said id be dead within months. @@pcarter1778 Hi, Can you please share to us what are the foods you eat everyday? I also do OMAD and it helped and healed my fatty liver in 2017. I want to incorporate keto but don't know how to start because of budget too. Thank you in advance.
@@sweetmac17 hi, I find locally that I can get boneless skinless chicken breast for .99 a lb. I stockpile that in my freezer and eat it buttered to get my fats in. I also eat ground beef and mixed greens with white wine vinegar. My weight started at 367 now I'm down to 211. On omad I found that fats are my friend. The fats carry my energy through until the next meal. I hope that helps
Bravo to you, Dr. Berry! I'm so tired of hearing "organic, grass-fed, free-range, etc." I'm a single mom with two teenagers and I can't afford that. So nice to hear someone who uses common sense.
Find you a blue pill guy or a naive guy to take care of your kids so you can do the right keto........... goodness gracious single moms are everywhere.....Jesus betrayals
How nice from you to say that! Those fancy keto people make people think if they do not eat pasture raised meat and free range eggs, they're screwed. When I begun my keto journey, I had no money enough for paying my bills and to buy food, so I had bone broth , salads and eggs.Once a while I had meat.I cooked with lard and used butter for a occasional fat bomb dessert and I've lost almost 20 pounds within 4 months and the most important, all my pains were gone. For these reasons, I keep on ketoing.Nowadays I can buy salmon and fancy vegetables since my financial situation changed.I can do better now, but I don't despise the hard days when I had so little to eat since I refused to eat bad carbs, despite people 's criticism, I kept eating what I could afford.
Now that’s wonderful. Cheap keto paved the way for your success in the present because you’ve been healthy and your brain functions amazingly. I still buy cheap stuff like pig and cow organs that have a lot of nutrients and fat. I make bone broths from bones I bought for almost free. Eating well doesn’t have to be expensive.
Yeah I don’t eat much either Meat is unaffordable to me and greens and avos are too. Farmers eggs are $3 a doz so I eat $5 for 3 doz crappy store ones. No taste. I use 1c crappy store milk in my coffee too (thruout day) to try to keep leg cramps at bay from lack of calcium. I rly miss my giant huge salads I was eating but I gotta buy food for my kids first and we have like $40-50 a week for 3 ppl. I fast alot but I use coconut milk then in my coffee so I can go 72 hrs easily. Someone bought me a case a few mos back. Each can lasts days. Thank God for ketones!
The five foods start at 3:43! 1.) Chicken legs 2.) High fat ground beef 3.) Eggs 4.) Avocados 5.) Greens Awesome video!!! It’s super important to stress the benefits of these cheap keto foods versus the other cheap junk foods. THIS is good medicine. I personally like buying whole chickens and cutting it up myself- super cheap, you put the different cuts in separate freezer ziplock bags, and you can save the bones and organs for stock. Ground bison is also fantastic- you can mix it with ground beef and get more nutrition since wild game tends to have more omega 3.
@@stacitowery4461chicken breasts are among the leanest cuts of meats. If you eat them on the keto diet, you are getting a lot of protein without the much needed fat to produce ketones. It may be good to coat it in a finishing oil or butter before eating it. Too much lean protein as a source of daily calories can hypothetically affect your body’s ability to stay in a fat burning state.
THANK YOU! It is so encouraging to hear someone say, “It’s way better than what you used to do!” We don’t have to feel like we’re failing because we can’t afford the absolute best. Do the best you can do.
I am so ELATED I have found your channel. Those Keto Snobs made me believe that my best was not good enough!!! You are relatable and make Keto believable because you know exactly how to disseminate information. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this comment!!! I have been keto for a little over 2 months and I'm down 17lbs that I have kept off even over the holidays when I messed up quite a bit. Some lady had a fit about using sugar free chocolate chips vs. Lilly's chocolate chips....claimed that I only care about looking good outside and not about being healthy inside, it wasn't even my recipe!!. I told her that some people don't have $9 to spend on Lilly's so all they can afford is the $3 Hersheys but either is gonna get the job done...yes you're insulin may spike a little but it's still WAY better than just eating regular sugar. Ugh! People just need to do what's best for them 😞
@@nekai9748 Not if insulin sensitive. If u R diabetic chemical fake sugars turn to sugar in your blood just like real cane sugar. Take your vlood sugar reading after eating sugar free choc chips..u will see.
Avocados are also good as a substitute for mayo. Also, two peeled and pitted avocados blended with sweetener, a can of coconut milk, a teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a melted bar of baker's cocoa, then frozen, makes keto ice cream. Looks weird but tastes great. Got this by tweaking Dr. Gundry's mint chocolate chip ice cream recipe.
Avocados: buy on sale! Wash, cut in half, whack pit with a knife (and twist knife) to remove it. Scoop out, place face down on waxed or parchment paper, freeze, and when frozen put in a Ziploc bag. To thaw, place in a bowl and squeeze lemon all over to prevent it browning (if you care about it turning). Mash and add to salad or eat with veggies. Greens: Buy in bulk if cheaper, and freeze in smaller bags. (Wash first, of course, if not already washed.) Use in smoothies, soups, or skillet veggie dishes.
I've been aware of the ketogenic diet for several years, and persuaded enough that I would have adopted it were it possible. However everything I read, every video I watched, all of them said that I absolutely had to eat organic everything, grass fed beef, pastured chicken, etc., etc.. I looked for the cheapest sources I could find for those organic options and crunched the numbers. I would have to spend literally four times my food budget to make the change. If I started keto, I would have to spend my rent money on food. And so for years, I continued to eat a high carb diet, convinced that keto was only for rich people. All those people (excuse me, but frankly assholes) who basically lied to me, seriously harmed my health by feeding me their bullshit bias. I don't remember who clued me in. It might well have been Dr. Berry. Around nine months ago I discovered that the 'organic' mantra was optional, that keto would work just fine with the foods that I could actually afford. Since then I have gone 'cheap' keto with exactly what Dr. Berry recommends, chicken, eggs, etc., bought on special from my local supermarkets. In that time I have lost eight inches off my waist (5 more to go), and a myriad of health issues have vanished. I want to share a trick I use to keep my costs really low. Very importantly, I have a chest freezer. This allows me to stock a large amount of food. What I do is I watch the fliers of my local supermarkets, I check them every week. When I see a great special on something I actually use, I stock up. I buy at least enough to last until it next goes on an equal special. I do this especially with ground beef/pork, and chicken quarters (by far the cheapest option in my part of the world). I buy maybe a month's worth of eggs when there is a good special (they last longer than most would have you believe). I also keep about 120 eggs frozen as 'emergency' reserve (the eggs are cracked and beaten before being added to freezer bags). I also watch for specific frozen veggies like spinach (my favorite). I don't just do the stock up for three months using specials with food, but with anything I use regularly. This way I spend less than half the amount of money most do for their groceries. Oh, and having a three month supply of food and other consumables on hand helps placate my prepper urge.
i feed a family of 3 (ages: 53,52,22) for soy free eggs, grass fed ground beef, sardines, anchovies, liverworst, grass fed stew meat, rib eyes++ for around $600/month.
@@brakeme1 $200/person/month is still more than a lot of people have disposable income available to spend. Best guidance is to do what you can with what you have got, consistently striving for a "daily better"
9010manassas I wait till they are soft. I put a few out on the counter to ripen and the rest go in the fridge to bring out later in the week. They have a small window that they are ready to use. But so worth it. Potassium 🙌🏼 💜
It’s so refreshing to see a doctor and fellow human being who doesn’t look down on others who are just trying to make their way in life. I just came across your channel not too long ago and I’m eternally grateful for all of the information you’ve shared! 🙏
THANK YOU for this video! I'm soooo sick of elitism in the keto community! Maybe it's better to buy beef with a pedigree or eggs that come with a birth certificate and the parents' names included that came from the local hippie commune. If that's what is needed to achieve health and weight loss, however, count me out. The truth is that stressing out over the quality of the food doesn't help weight loss goals. And the next time some chirpy keto guru says, "You can either give your money to the farmer or the doctor!"....grrrrrr! Encouraging people to eat better is the right approach. Attaching it to the tyranny of perfection doesn't belong in the keto community. Thank you for your leadership in commonsense keto.
Lucky me..... I raise my own ducks, chickens, and geese. I have tons of eggs, tons of duck and chicken eggs, plus Lots of duck, geese, and to a lesser extent chicken in my freezer. If you have never experienced Goose Bacon (cold smoked goose breast) it is delicious and difficult to tell that it not pork belly. All of my livestock are organic and completely free range. I realize that generally speaking buying organic foods can be cost prohibitive but it is not necessarily healthy to eat eggs from factory farmed chickens. Those birds are Salmonella carriers because of their environment. They are also fed soy to force egg laying. I do not feed my birds soy and only organic corn. I raise my own meal worms and mix my own soy free organic layer feed. My ducks and chickens lay an average of 300 eggs per year from each hen. 15,000 eggs per year. I can only eat/use about 1500 eggs per year if I ate 4 eggs per day. So I sell my excess eggs. I only raise enough meat birds to feed myself or to trade for raw whole milk or some pastured pork, lamb, or beef. 60 goslings become fat and sassy in the Fall and give me about 400 lbs. of delicious very fatty meat plus a gigantic pile of bones for broth. If people have a yard they should buy a gosling or two each Spring. A breeding pair of French Toulouse geese will give you 16-20 goslings each Spring. Geese are primarily grass eaters. No specialty feed required except in the winter. If you put all of the goslings in the Freezer in the Fall. The yield should be at least 140 lbs. of really succulent organic meat, bones, and lots of really delicious fat.
The best way to live!! We have a Pecker Palace full of egglaying queens, and we love it!! We've raised beef, chickens and ducks for meat, you just made me realize we need to do that again!!
People always slam the southern way of cooking collards in bacon grease as the cause of obesity there. Who knew that the big gulp Mountain Dew and Cheetos had anything to do with it? ;-))
People blame the lard and bacon and eggs southerners have and somehow miss the biscuits pancakes flour gravy grits cornbread and 7 super sweet cakes per occasion. It’s mind boggling
Love using affordable oily sardines in a can, mush them up with basil oil (cause I grow my own) and top it off with parmesan cheese, scooping them up with Romain lettuce.
You are so right Doc! Grass fed organic is great but it's not a must. I lost 134 lbs in a year eating whatever I could afford at the time and got healthy, didn't HAVE to have grass fed wild cough anything. My story is on my channel. Great video
Thanks. I am on a fixed income and was having a horrible time affording the foods. I now can survive on these 5 things you have mentioned. Thanks so much!!!
@O Malley Exactly! Thanks for helping to dispel the old wives tale myth about fasting. I lost 130 lbs fasting.. I ate one meal per week for about 3 months. Took daily vitamins and salt water. No exercise. Ppl have not believed me before when I've told them about it, but it's true. Stayed naturally thin after that for 20 years until recently started slowly packing on the lbs... About to do it again. If anything, it resets a sluggish metabolism.
OMAD yey! people think I'm nuts especially cus I'm not overweight, but it allows me to afford to eat much better food and it's easier to organise and it's sorted all my digestive issues that were causing me to feel sluggish. I don't think I was absorbing all the nutrition in what I was eating properly.

Thank you for being honest enough to put this out there. Constantly being told “only grass fed, only organic, only free range, etc” puts me in a mindset of hardship and unattainable perfection. This helped more than I can say. I feel supported and understood.

Dr. Berry your honesty is rare and very much appreciated. I have tried keto before and failed miserably. I feel I would not have had such a bad experience had I seen your videos. So glad I found you! Thank you so much!
Just starting keto, on a fixed income, & so thankful for your videos Dr Berry! I care for 3 adults, all with different health issues, and felt keto/ketovore will work for all of us. I really appreciate all your help!
I don't know if you will ever see this Dr Berry but thank you for this I'm broke 😂 fat and tired i started eating keto reading everything i put in my face and lost 8 pounds in my first month not the fastest weight loss ever but it's not a race and i trust what your saying and appreciate it. ❤
I've lost over a hundred pounds in less than a year, basically following the Dr.'s advice. I'm now down to the healthy weight I was in college, after years of being morbidly obese. Slow weight loss is still weight loss and you'll get there. Just don't let perfect be the enemy of the good, stick with it. Hope you are still doing well.
OMG thank you! finally someone thinking the same way like me! in all those FB keto groups or on those websites and channels you always hear: "you need the best quality and if you don't can or want to afford that, well... just rethink your priorities... or try again if you have enough money..." OMG, sorry for being just a poor student trying to change my life into a positive direction... :D
Thank you for this. I am on a budget and have a family of five to feed. I also am shaming myself for not having 150$ a month to spend on exogenous ketones. I'm 2 weeks in and plan on this being a lifestyle change for good. I don't have a scale and don't plan on getting one so I don't know if I have lost weight yet but I feel so much better. That's a win to me. I'm 36 5 foot 2 and I weigh 260. I knew when I researched this diet that it would help me. The reason I got so big is from soda pop bread pasta and rice. So by cutting all of that out and no longer drinking soda or having sugar its bound to help me lose the weight in the long run. ..right?
Jennifer Mast, kudos to you for making a lifestyle change like you have! You are a winner already; don’t ever shame yourself because you can’t afford something. I haven’t yet started going keto, and people like you really inspire me! God bless you in your quest for a healthier life!
If it makes you feel better, excess ketones are USELESS. This has been proven many times. Don't waste your money on ANY supplements if it's not something you NEED. That is people trying to commercialize keto just like the standard diet has been. Keto is glorious in the fact that you only need to eat good food to be healthy.
Jennifer Mast exogenous ketones will only make your poorer and the seller richer. All you need is good unprocessed foods. Eat as good quality as you can. Stay away from exogenous ketones and Keto products. You do NOT need them. 😊😊😊
Jennifer Mast I was inspired reading your story! Please keep us posted on how you're doing. What I tell my hubby all the time is if God didn't make it then we don't eat it. Meat, meat byproducts, fish, vegetables and some fruit - whatever you can make out of those things is fine.
Jennifer Mast , I hear you! You might be able to join a TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) club to have access to getting weighed weekly. I have a scale that showed I had lost only 6 pounds. But, I had gotten back to bicycling, standing while reading, and doing leg lifts to increase my leg muscles so that they could burn more fat. It was still disappointing to see my weeks of effort giving me only a 6-pound loss. Then, I put my feet together and realized that there's space between my knees! Also when I lie down, it feels like there is less visceral fat, even though there is still plenty of subcutaneous fat. Put a note on your mirror to remind you to pat yourself on the back every morning because your going keto will be a good example for your kids. Also your helping your kids eat keto will help them not be overweight, be obese, it gave diabetes type 2.
As a student this video made me feel like I actually do eat healthy. I've had so bad conscience for having farmed meat because I can't afford wild caught and grass fed alternatives at the time. You're like a keto papa, thank you so much!
Thanks Dr. Berry. I have recently been diagnosed as pre-diabetic and have been researching YT for suggestions for foods to eat that would lower my a1c and most of what I have found would be way above my fixed income budget. Your suggestion are well within my price range.

I love that you talked about saving the chicken leg bones. Since going keto in 2018, our freezer always has a “bone bag” going- we toss all the chicken bones in it, as well as the parsley stems, celery trimmings, and carrot ends.. when we have enough, I toss it all in a big crock pot, leave it on low for a couple of days then jar up the strained broth..after all that slow cooking, the bones are soft enuf, that I put them in the food processor and make “Kitty pate”- my cat loves it!!!( I don’t salt the broth, or add any spices, so it’s better for the pets)... win win win..

Thanks for all you do. You encourage and inspire so many people that need help. Would you consider doing a segment on the dangers/ benefits of non-sugar sweeteners? I am assuming calorie-free may not be safe.
That is basically my keto - I don't eat avocados whether they are 2 for $5 or free. I started around easter time 2016 when everyone had eggs on sale. Down 27 pounds and at least 28 inches aka 2 dress sizes. I also watch for sales and check markdown bins; sometimes you can find the natural stuff in there since there aren't any preservatives in the grassfed beef and lamb. I do splurge for heavy cream and ration it out and cultured butter only for the my mocha so a bar can last 2 months. Natural Peanut butter is a must as well. IF and 2 meals a day helps the budget too.
