@VCG I'll come back to Milwaukee bits after this. I've tried DeWalt slip over magnet, Norske, and many more. Most recently, I've been using Makita for their sleeve magnet but it can be vulnerable because it's two press-fit pieces. The Milwaukee looks like a one-piece design. This is a big time and trouble saver! Thanks for the video, Vince!

At one time in a galaxy far, far away when I was young there was not, a battery impact driver. Impacts where air tools and screws were driven with corded drills or if you where really lucky you may have had a 7.2 volt Makita stick battery drill. In those years to keep screws on the drill you would use chewing gum, maybe silicon caulk, or even a dab of an adhesive. Today everything is so, so easy. I just reach for my Bosch 12 volt impact and GET R' DONE !!!!! Although I still reach for my 18 volt Bosch 535 hammer drill out of old habits. It's a friend of mine.😊

Have had a couple of older spring loaded quick chuck style DeWalt ones that were designed to hold the 1” bits and had a magnetic ring that held the fastener. Loved em. Over time, sometimes it wouldn’t want to give up the bit when you needed to swap out and the chrome coating on the neodymium magnets would eventually get beat up and start to degrade, but they did work well and stand up to a load of abuse. More recently, for the thin Milwaukee Shockwave bits, I have found some slip on magnets from Masterforce, found at the retailer my kids refer to as “Save Big Money at Menard’s, or Menard’s for short. They work great, but they’re, Dark Green and Black and tiny, and have a tendency to go missing. (The bit holders; not my kids.) ((They’re shades of peach and often go missing too, but I think it’s more due to the fact that I embarrass them regularly.))🤔

The masterforce magnets arent that great. They dont hold up to hard use and the little neodymium mag rings pop out of the unit easily. I tried usi g them proffessionally a couple years ago as I liked the price of the Masterforce bits but the magnets didnt hold up well amd they dont hold on the bits that well either and would often come off the bits and stay atrached to the screw ya just got done driving. Ok for occasional DIY but wouldnt recomend for proffesional all day use.

Actually if you use this style of magnet on a long say 6" bit you can slide the magnet all the way back to your impact collet and the magnet is so strong that it will still hold a screw at the tip of the 6" extension very well. Thats been my experience anyway with the Makita Mag Boost which this Milwaukee is a copy of.

Well I'll say that if this Milwaukee one is a close copy of the original Makita Mag Boost then it will be the new king imo. I've had just about every bit magnet out there that is accessible at stores. All of Dewalts variants and many other brands and the Original fully sealed teal Makita Mag Boost was the best but they quit making it. They went to the metal XPS version which is decent and then came out with a new teal plastic version but it's inferior to the original because the magnets can fall out. I'm going pick up this Milwaukee and if it's like the original Makita Mag Boost and the magnets are sealed inside a one piece plastic housing then I'm going to be stoked.

@duncdunc76
@duncdunc76 5 месяцев назад
I like the Makita XPS quite a bit myself but it's not as versatile as the original Mag Boost. You can only use the XPS on Makita bits and even the new Makita XPS bits don't work as well with the magnet because they got rid of the tiny octagon pattern milled on the bits that would keep the magnet from slipping back. And that was a nice feature because you could use the XPS magnet as an oversink preventer when driving screws.
@LARULES100
@LARULES100 5 месяцев назад
@duncdunc76 I have both and I agree the mag with teal sleeve is better but both are sweet.what phillip bits brand you think are the best?
@duncdunc76
@duncdunc76 5 месяцев назад
@@LARULES100 well if I'm using the XPS magnet then the XPS #2 is what I use as I like the feature of being able to use the setup to get consistent screw depth when building playsets which I do alot of professionally. But I will say that over the 15 plus years of driving wood screws I feel like the Impact rated Dewalt bits have been the most durable for me but I rarely use them anymore as a good magnetic setup is key for me and Dewalts magnets are not as impressive as Makitas.

Nice vid as always VCG. I think Milwaukee copied Makita on this though. But a red one does look better then a blue one on those red Milwaukee bits 😂. But I will have to give props to Makita for inventing the original Mag Boost that I've used and loved for probably 8 years now. Sadly am down to just one left out of the twelve I bought for $3.49 a peice over the years. I might have to take a look at this Milwaukee one and see if it's an improvement on the original Makita Mag Boost as you can't buy them any more. And the newer version that Makita came out with isn't as good as the original as the magnets in the newer version can fall out if the unit gets banged around in work situations.

Dude I love your videos but this didn’t fix anything, it’s wider and more chunky around the middle then the 6” extension, and like you already said “why not just use a magnetizer, well it loses its magnetism after impacts.” But then right after use the exact same scenario on how to use it in small spaces and say it’ll stay magnetized for a few uses. Conclusion, just use the 6” magnetized extension you get in almost every bit pack and get a magnetizer for the long 6” bits for the tight spaces. Your just adding an unnecessary small “tool” to your collection that’ll probably get lost.
