You need at least 3 cylinders to spin a turbo effectively otherwise the exhaust pulses are too far apart and aren't really smooth enough to maintain induction load without some crazy exhaust tuning. Not saying it can't be done but it's either going to be barely functional or way more work than it's worth

How's it holding up? I've been shopping around for a stupid cheap turbo and at 90-100usd, even if it does go wrong, I won't be out a whole lot of money and lesson learned. Is it dual ball bearing?

@Gage Petas if he's OE internals, he's already around danger zone being at 12 but in a car that small, that's respectable power for the streets.

I've Had Two Of These 99 Buck Ones, First One I Killed... It Sucked Up A Rag At Full Boost and Chipped The Compressor. The Second Was On The Car For 2 Years Daily Driven At About 10PSI (13PSI Was About The Max I Could Squeeze Out Of It) With About 10,000 Miles. I Would Make Frequent 400 Mile Trips During School. Ive Seen A lot Of Videos On RU-vid Of These Turbos Failing Within A Few Thousand Miles So I Believe Lots Of People Have Poor Oil Feed And Or Drain Set Ups. The Third Turbo Was A CX Racing Single Ball Bearing Cast Wheel, That One Had About 7,000 Miles On It And Made Multiple Trips A Year To Phoenix (1000Mile Round Trips) For Work. The Fourth Turbo Was Another CX Racing Single Ball Bearing Cast Wheel Turbo But It Was Way Too Laggy. My Cars A 4 Speed Auto And It Took All Of First And Half Of Second To Hit Full Boost (102mm Turbo). That One I Only Put On About 3,000 Miles Because I Could Not Stand The Lag. The 5th Turbo Is No Name Chinese Dual Ball Bearing Billet Wheel Turbo. Now That Only Has Only Been On The Car For 1500 Miles And So Far Its Amazing How Fast It Spools At My Elevation Of 7,000 Feet. I Can Make A RU-vid Video Of The Turbos Off The Car haha.

Fitted one to my friends 1.8T as well, B7 A4 1.8T to be exact, 23 Pounds of boost and 1 and a half years later and all is good and well.

Usually timing belts snap because they aren’t replaced soon enough. How many miles were on the car when it snapped ? You usually have to replaced timing belts every 80,000 miles to be safe

@@spacecowboy1591 it snapped because i didnt have the mid timing cover on and somehow a bolt fell down in there without me knowing it and tore it apart being stuck between the crank gear. I learned that cover is very critical lmao

You can't get a ball bearing for 94 bucks. It's obviously journal. Seals on these usually last a year.

Get two for double the fun

Youd get 2500rpm spool on one and outta gas by 5800. Get two. I'm putting two on a small block Dodge 6.0 with 10:1 cr and running 5psi. Lower psi will make the turbo Live longer. But a stock cvpi will handle 10psi without needing a tune or hw. Ask me how I know

You only live ONCE! ;-) You can always buy another one, they're cheap at that mileage.

Yeah, you can bolt up an adapter that would give you a built in wastegate. Personally I hate them and would always go for an external gate on the manifold. A regular 5 bolt flange blocks that hole off. You want it blocked off if you run an external gate.

My first one blew the oil seals pretty quick, my cxracing blew after a year, and the maxpeedingrods gt35 has yet to blow them.

Can you buy upgraded seals for the turbo??

Kingrai 15 If you’re new to turbos and you’re learning then yes that’s very good I would definitely go with eBay. No point on spending $1000 or more on a turbo if you don’t know what you’re doing. Practice on something that’s only $100 first.

Ive heard that if oil is getting in the exhaust, you may need a bigger diameter oil return hose. May also need an oil restrictor because the engine might have too much pressure for the turbo

18 PSI is pretty much nothing,,life starts at 30 psi..lol

@Timothy Reid alright..cool..well my daily driver, Volvo V70R man 1998, runs about 20 psi, with bigger intercooler, 3" exhaust all the way, GLT cams, Moded ECU..little things like that..and yea, bigger breaks hehehe...it hangs with the big bois/girls cars...with the grocery in the back..lol..

Going strong on 10 psi + beating the hell out of it with 2 step.

T3/T4 is a hybrid. The Grand National used the t3, as many stock vehicles did. Chrysler k-derivatives, 80s mustangs, etc.

Isaak Welch The hot air cars (85 and earlier) had the T3’s. The inter cooled cars (86/87) had the hybrids. Not 100% on the specs. I guess I could go out in the garage and take a look.

Only way I can think of is if its the intake air thats turbulent the air and fuel mix better for cleaner more even combustion

@@dalton6122 but the air is being compressed. If anything, smooth should work better. It would increase the chance of cramming more air through. That "rough wall" trick works for intake ports on a head when running a carburetor. But this is pre-intercooler. Way too soon to matter about fuel mixture. Unless I'm overlooking something I don't know.

Probably too big for that motor, I think a small td04 would spool quite a lot faster.

If you are only running 8 psi or less this should do the trick and will spool much faster than the gt35. 3.5 liters is a little big for this turbo but all that means is that you are gonna run out of efficiency real quick. The size of the turbo is gonna limit how much power you can make.

Manifold, intercooler and piping, bigger injectors, A downpipe or a flange to make one, some way to tune it (either a standalone ecu or Hondata), oil feed and drain. That would be the bare minimum in my opinion. Extremely useful to also have a wideband gauge, bigger fuel pump, 3 bar map sensor, and a stronger clutch. It seems like a lot but once you own that stuff a lot of it can be moved from car to car.

Isaias’s Life should be able to handle some abuse. Newer ones have weaker transmissions (cvt) that couldn’t take the torque

This kind uses an external wastegate bolted to the manifold. You can put a boost controller on the vacuum line to that gate or change the spring.

One of these could do it. All that matters is how high you wanna turn it up.

Are you talking about the 2.0 ecoboost? The ST comes stock with a 1.6 turbo if I'm not mistaken. And if you've swapped it for a 2.0 ecoboost crate motor, it comes stock with a turbo. The one in this video would probably be worse than either stock turbo. If I were you, I'd focus on supporting mods for a bigger than stock turbo. Stuff like radiator, exhaust, intake, intercooler, tuning.
