Just in case anyone's wondering - it's the solo to Winter Madness by Wintersun, originally written and recorded by Jari Mäenpää. Teemu took over lead guitar duties live when Jari decided to focus more on vocals. And as you can tell he did a pretty sick job, to say the least.
As a Finn myself, a dream would be to see Teemu and Brandon Ellis shred together like Alexi and Roope did back in the day....like Marty and Jason Becker did back in the day...guitar gods.😛 We miss seeing guitar duos that shred well together.
Teemu Vibrato like Jason Becker Vibrato ,very2 Special !...he have more skill pattern & technic like Jason Becker not boring to hear ! Lovely J.S Bach pattern ...Jason Becker Junior is Come now !!!
His playing is so clean, fluid, and effortless. I had never heard of Teemu until he began to tour with Megadeth, but I've quickly learned that he's an absolute guitar master. 🤘🏽🤘🏽
For sure dude. There are Vids out there where Teemu is kind of explaining his playing style/practice routine etc. And basically he says that the most important thing is to absolutely master the fundamentals. Like completely perfecting his picking technique, super basic hand coordination, stuff like that. Which really isn't super surprising or anything, but for me personally, as someone who recently took up learning guitar, it's pretty encouraging to hear such advice coming from an absolute master like Teemu.
@@crazyjoedavola7493I've thought about that alot actually haha. Like, what would it be like to have Jari himself teaching you how to play his own material? I can honestly imagine Jari being a fairly shitty teacher. Just because he's such a virtuoso. I mean for Jari, there's really no skill limitation. If he can envision it in his head, he's gonna be able to play it, no matter how tough it is. Where most guitarists might have to contend with issues such as improving their sweep picking abilities, or improving their hand coordination for super fast alternate picking, Jari doesn't really have those same barriers. Not that he never warms up or maintains his fundamentals, but he's just such a virtuoso that all these skills are basically natural and intuitive for him. I mean, imagine trying to explain to someone how to walk, even if that person knows how already. "You just put one foot in front of the other", but that's really no better than saying "you just...do it. You just walk". There's probably a better example than that, but I think it gets the point across. I can totally see Jari trying to explain to Teemu how to play, idk, the "Eternal Darkness" solo, and Jari being like: "OK to play this sweep section is easy, all you have to do is this...*starts sweeping at full speed* " 😂😂
I'm glad Teemu is getting some recognition. Hopefully turns more people onto Wintersun's music too as it's top tier, and underappreciated outside of the melodeath genre.
@@zombiefrogg8542 A band doesn't have to be active or touring for people to enjoy their albums. By that logic you don't think anyone should bother listening to deceased artists?
Teemu is legit my favorite guitarist. I took lessons from him for about a year or so and it was worth every penny. He is as awesome a person as he is a guitarist too!
@@bradmettler4566 It appears to me that Teemu is trying to play the solo note for note the same way it has been performed by Marty previously. That leaves very little for interpretation. I'm sure he could some up with a custom solo if Dave requested him to do so.
@@bradmettler4566 i dont get the whole "soul" argument anymore. it has totally lost its meaning. like back in the day it used to be understandable because of ppl only shredding and not making any meaningful melodies in their soloing and other guitar playing. but nowadays ive seen so many ppl get it that are BOTH amazing shredders and improvisationists. i just feel like its coming from ppl who are just jealous that they wont ever be able to play as good as them.
Holy F_ck, I had only heard of his name in passing as part of Wintersun, who I've never had the chance to listen to much either, just that they were quite talented... but *that* is a colossal understatement! This is some of the most fluid and effortless playing of very complicated runs, arpeggios and thrash riffs I've ever seen, he's _so smooth_ it's mindblowing, "talented" does not begin to describe it. Truly worthy replacement for Kiko too.
ya that was all the creation of jari..whose way too much of a perfectionist and wont make anything prolly ever again ha. loved him, but now its like..u gotta know the full story, its nuts. amazing music..but he never puts it out..paid wintersun 50 bucks for 4 tracks. yikes
These guys are totally unknown to mainstream american metal, I always try to bring up the fact that european power metal should be as recognized as british heavy metal or american thrash metal.
@@diegolatorre6793 European power metal is already pretty big, the Japanese scene deserves some more love. The thing is that power metal isn't as influential, british heavy metal and thrash metal paved the way for a lot of other genres while power metal sort of just ended there. NWOBHM also played a part in thrash and thrash was one of the stepping stones to extreme subgenres like black metal and death metal
That last lick, the two arpeggios played in groups of 4 Have been keeping me on my toes for 20 hours. Love the sound of them, very difficult for me to play though
@@elderkirkus Practicing a single lick for this many hours a day isn't very efficient, because muscle memory is mainly consolidated during REM sleep. (I often throw in a practice session for stuff I can't play at the desired speed yet right before going to bed. It works wonders.)
I happened upon Troy's video a couple of year's ago and I was devastated by Yari's solo and Teemu's ability. He is a very special player, I am completely fascinated each time I see clips of him playing. I am also proud to say that my own transcription of this solo is identical to yours, Levi :D Just 3-4 very minor differences in note values. At 210 bpm, these often become imperceptible. I doubt I would have been able to do that, were it not for Teemu's ungodly precision and clarity and Troy's video. Still, I rarely transcribe and do it with a rather old version of Powertab, so a win is a win and I'll take it. :D
Here is tho whole song, written by Jari Mäenpää: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GUXpbnT5eBE.html Jari Mäenpää plays (all) the guitar in this album (and plays everytyhing else too, except the drums. Drums is done by Kai Hahto). Later on Jari wanted to focus more on just singing on gigs, so Teemu took lead guitar role in Wintersun and they hired a new rhytm guitarist. Wintersun is best what t I have ever heard in my life💯🤘👌 and I guess it is quite hard to exceed that, for me anyway.
Amazing chops but also some interesting turns of phrasing that definitely make him stand out Dave has always had an ear for those sort of musicians and I’m looking forward to see if it’s going to be more than just a temporary role
This was a fun surprise. Remember watching this guy's projects somewhere around 2005-2008 or so, people thought the band would never get going and just be his desk drawer project. But eventually he did get some great people to play his music with him. Or I suppose it was Jari Mäenpää's project and he joined Mäenpää, and I listened to Mäntysaari on Imperanon before 2005 or so, it's getting a bit fuzzy these days. He was pretty quiet until apparently now Kiko couldn't join and recommended him. Not your ordinary Megadeth guitarist by any means to me - someone who grew up playing that typical Children of Bodom inspired Finnish power metal derives.
To follow Kiko and Marty before him is a giant task. Then to have Dave Mustaine looking over your shoulder is a mountain of pressure! This guy is awesome!
Teemu is great. I was lucky enough to have a guitar lesson with him before a Wintersun show in 2018. Hopefully this is just a temporary thing and Dave doesn't nick yet another guitarist from a band I like.
The thing is Wintersun hasn’t done anything since the 7000 tons of metal cruise. Jari’s gotten super lazy with Time 2 and Teemu doesn’t get included in the writing process so hopefully this tour will help elevate his career to where he deserves to be, be it in Megadeth or another band
@@villes5727 that’s cool then if he’s actually getting to be apart of the whole thing now, but Jari needs to put out a studio cut of The Way of Fire. We’ve been asking for it for awhile now and it would help retain SOME interest in the potential release of Time 2.
@@thecrypticstench Seems that hes too busy with the four other albums hes working on,and dont quote me on this but i think he mentioned that too much of Time ||would be revealed if he'd put out a studio version,if the live song from 2018 really is Storm from the album...
@@True86er Well Broderic is the only one that comes even close on talent. He might be better. But still personally rank Teemu higher but i might be biased
@@jii-ro7083Listen to Kiko Loureiro's albums, for me he is the most technical that has ever been in Megadeth, I have never heard such a precise and clean guitarist live.
@@jii-ro7083 Funny. I was a fan of this guy (through Wintersun) Kiko, and Broderick all before they joined Megadeth. And Kiko is by *far* the most gifted and versed in music. Broderick and Teemu are definitely extremely technically proficient and air tight control over their instrument but Kiko's skill as a musician and breadth of understanding of music far surpasses theirs. For most of my time listening to metal, I would have considered Kiko my favorite guitarist. If you are sleeping on Kiko you obviously are not familiar with his other work before Megadeth.
or he could be the "next guy", which is good for him. Wintersun has been inactive lately, being in megadeth pays your bills (as long as Mustaine's healthy).
@@pauln6803YES. This is why early Petrucci and most shredders since 2000 have sucked as artists. They can play to a metronome but they can’t swing and they can’t groove and they lack the vibe that is fundamental in rock - Hendrix and Eddie and Steve and Dime all have a “hyper loose” vibe that we are all familiar with. We don’t listen to piano or violin for a reason.
@@warningchimes24If you like hearing repetitive mid-tempo songs with grating vocals for an hour straight, then, yes, their last few albums have been 'great'.
Yeah, I’m not liking this guy.. he made me lose quite a chunk of change when I tossed my guitars out with the garbage! But seriously, this guy is amazing!
Hi Levi Quick comment, is it worth putting the chord names just above the tab? I understand this is free content and adding the chords might take more time for you to do .
Kiko is only taking a break due to not further explained family reasons. Hope everything is ok. It doesnt seem like he would just leave in the middle of the tour to be with his kids. Even though that would honestly still be a valid reason for the break
