have never heard of stem lettuce before and haven't seen it either...what does this taste like? cabbage, romaine lettuce, leaf lettuce, iceberg lettuce??? very different and not found in the states.... it is amazing how precise you can be with a huge clever, it always amazes me seeing chinese chefs using such a big knife for such delicate work

I hear it is too bitter without some "help" from other ingredients. I was told this is also a good recipe and it does contain some oil even though Chef Wang Gang does not advise oil: CELTUCE SALAD WITH SCALLION OIL

Looks like it's meant to be a side dish. Everything else will have oil. This'll be that crisp accompaniment to the rest of the food.

This dish is supposed to give you a refreshing feeling. Adding sesame oil would be contradictory to that. But if you really like it of course you can give it a try.

thanks for the video! what is the kind of peeler you use? could it be used to peel other vegetables like potato cucumber....

You can find this peeler easily in China, but I am not sure about this in other countries. BTW, this peeler can use for anything like potatoes or cucumbers. Also, its sides are very sharp that you can use it as a knife to cut vegetables after peeling.

@@MrJotarok It does much better job on dealing with some big and hard vegetables like the stem of lettuce shown in the video. But if you only want to peal potatos, I think the regular one is better thanks to its smaller size. I think it is much more popular in China because we eat everything ; ). But I still recommend you to have one. It isn't a bad thing to try something new, right?
