Love Don. Have watched him for 32 years. Hockey Night in Canada was a big thing for my family in the States. Watching both games. 7:30 and 10:00 was a family tradition.
lets all be serious here for a sec, Canada is a great nation (best in the world ;), but the fact is we aren't very good at many sports compared to the rest of the world. But give us ONE thing, we sure as hell OWN hockey!! HOCKEY IS CANADA'S GAME!!!
yeah until he stuck a knife in his back ... after Don saved his job not once but twice ... and to turn on Don to save his own neck .. i can't stand Ron MacLean
canada has the best team on paper always the thing i'm worried about is the large ice so can't wait for sochi. in sochi 2014 it's once again gold or nothing.
At the 2010 Olympics, Canada's gold medal winning team consisted of 23 players, 21 of whom played in the US (Luongo and Iginla being the only exceptions), in 2014, our gold medal winning team consisted of 25 players, 21 of whom played in the US (Price, Luongo, Hamhuis and bench warmer Subban, were the exceptions). Why do seemingly all the Canadian teams in the NHL except maybe the Oilers try to stack their teams with foreigners while the US teams full of Canadian stars have been winning every Cup since 1994?
Look no one says in all fairness that the Russians,Swedes,Czechs, Americans, Finns, can't play hockey and don't have loads of talent. But when it comes to hockey no one is as succcessful as Canada. It is Canada's game just like Soccer is Brazil's,Italy's and Germany's game. Canadians live to play hockey. They wake up in the morning grab a doughnut have a coffee and head to the rink. Not all Canadians play hockey of course, but they recognize its Canada's game.
for the exception of malkin in 2009 playoffs the sedin twins, ovechkin all check out come playoff time. they are nowhere to be found. so winning the regular season mvp is a great accomplishment but it only matters if you carry that play through the playoffs. ps it comforts me to know that of the last 5 cup winners most of the impact players or playoff heroes were canadian.
John Teows University of North Dakota, Ryan Miller Michigan State, Zach Parise University of North Dakota, Danny Heatley University of Wisconsin, Ryan Kessle The Ohio State University, Brian Gionta Boston College, Thomas Vanek University of Minnesoda, Ryan Suter University of Wisconsin, To man some great players that have come out of NCAA Hockey, both Canadian and American players have come from this system. So to say every good play came from the Canadian System is dogmatically narrow minded.
I'm from Minnesota, I know how big hockey is, it's the same way there. I have no problem with Canadians being proud, but there is no reason to rip other countries players and say the only way you can win is with a majority of Canadians when that is not the case.
i seriously can't stand watching old coaches corner clips ... I like Don Cherry for the most part ... very knowledgeable, don't always agree with him ... but he speaks his mind and i respect that and he's very entertaining lol ... the reason i can't stand watching the old clips is cuz of the back stabbing weasel that sits to his left ...
haha, that's funny. Whether Canadians are the best at hockey is highly debatable? What are you fucking high? We are the best no doubt. Look at the caliber of Canadian hockey players in the NHL. Every NHL team that wins the cup has a successful Canadian backbone. Every American player that's good comes through the Canadian system of hockey. And Don Cherry is right here, you absolutely need to take the proper precautions before you play the game.
I can understand to a point on why he's so pro Canadian because he's from there but one thing he will never acknowledge is the fact that without the United States the NHL would be back to a 6 team league.
Steven M I'm a Canadian and I acknowlege America's huge contribution to the NHL. As a left-wing nationalist, I believe Canada should have it's own hockey league to compete with the NHL. It could be an 18 team league and the top 8 teams could face the top 8 American teams in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Yeah......THAT'S the reason why this is offensive. Good comeback by the way, you're still in high school right? Bottom line, while the league may still be a Canadian majority, that majority has been shrinking steadily over the last 10 years or so. Canada probably always will produce the most NHLers, which is fine. The point is Cherry and you need to realize there are thousands of highly skilled players that ARE NOT Canadian, and that will continue to be proven in the coming years.
lol Cherry is such a nationalist when it comes down to it. Just dumb blind pride. He's lucky Canadians work so hard at hockey, because he'd stick to his argument even if Canada suddenly became the worst nation for hockey.
Marco Radicia Naaaaw, Then its just annoying not watching different styles of hockey taught in Sweden, like how the Sedins brought a really cool passing style
good thing Don didn't that Detroit would win the cup that year...with a team loaded with europeans. His obsession with nationality is sad. If he says that crap on TV, imagine in private or the shit that goes on in his mind.
