What we did when we couldn’t go to fêtes and festivals - Make a video and have fun!
We’re the Chesterfield Garland Dancers. We were initially a bit stumped when due to Covid rules, we couldn’t get up to our usual activities, but bit by bit, we invented new ones! Took one of our existing dances (Goostrey) and made a new socially distanced version which we decided to call Goostrey Through the Looking Glass - seemed a fitting title especially after deciding to video it!
Of course, some of us felt a little shy when the video idea was first proposed or wondered how on earth this could all be done! I think however in the end we can all say that we had a jolly good time and learnt a lot in the process!
So, if you like the idea of doing something a bit different and having fun with a friendly bunch of folks, why not look us up? If you can’t join this year, keep us in mind, get in touch, or follow us for next year. You can join in and learn the dances, or the music, or even do a bit of both! www.chesterfieldgarland.org.uk
Lots of thanks to those folks who quietly did lots of stuff for us in the background, (you know who you are!), as well as various friends and family who were tasked with filming us!
A big thank-you to Michael Dobbs of Woodborough Video who took all the many pieces of our film and recording jigsaw to edit and produce this video.
