Chevy Camaro ZL1 1LE takes on Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, Spanking Follows. Drag and Roll Race. Join this channel to get access to perks: / @samcarlegion
I'm enjoying the new format, nice work. You should add 60-130mph stats from your roll races if they can get that fast. RaceBox should record it all ready.
The camaro still would’ve won, it just would’ve been slightly closer. Power to weight still exist, and the fact that it’s the 1LE with more drag than the regular zl1
@@Bop6.2 if it was Challenger SRT demon with 1050 hp engine , i think it would easily beat Camaro. But they took hellcat instead of demon. Also they took 2017 hellcat instead of 2022 🙄
@@legendaryhero-kr5pq the demon doesn’t make 1050hp and it would’ve span worse cause they are still racing on a unprepared surface, also they are using the 1LE version which has significantly more drag than the regular Z, not everything is about horsepower in racing. The c8 dogs the demon in a 1/4 mile and it has less hp than a zl1
I'm a Camaro guy, but I'll be fair here, that Hellcat did have extra crappy tires. The race would've been neck and neck if the chally had decent tires.
@@dallasfrost1996 I agree! I’m a Challenger Hellcat owner with Nitto drag radials in 305’s with 20x11 rear wheels. I’m positive the race would have been much closer with my setup. But you can’t deny the ZL1 performance…..much respect! 👍🏾
@@aj_hlct6230 Nice man! It's quite refreshing coming across genuine Mopar owners instead of delusional Motard fanboys. "No ZL1 is keeping up with a Hellcat" etc, etc. Both are great cars for their purposes, but yeah, ZL1's are great performance cars. Really good price to performance ratio with them. Very underrated vehicles for sure, they can hang with Hellcats on the straights while also giving the GT500 a hard time around a track!
@@DrHorsePower Camaro guy here and ill say that if the Challenger had better tires it definitely would have been much closer... Them Camaros are no slouch tho... They move... I Respect all of the Big 3 as well
Thanks again for having me Sam! I would have put my drag radials on but this is a stock Vs stock comparison. That Camaro was insane! I need get my self a 10 speed tranny 😂
I thought the hellcat came with the hellcrate for $1.00. It's supposed to have the drag radials in it. I would consider it stock equipment, especially since Dodge charges you $1.00 for it. They want you to have that package. It would've helped, but the results would have been the same. It's all about traction and power to weight ratio. Aerodynamics help a little.
I think the Hellcat besides traction downfall alot of times of course weight and no one says anything about aerodynamics. The Dodge of course would be a better daily driver.
Sad to see these works of art go away. Growing up as a car fan, never really been one to just fall in love with a car! That is until I got my very first ZL1. Then I saw the article talking about the end of the Charger, Challenger and Camaro and I was deeply saddened. Finally found the car I'm going to stay with and now it's coming to an end. Thank you Dodge and Chevy for such great Muscle car products. Hopefully you reconsider 😢
Hopefully a republican like trump or Vivek gets in office and maybe they’ll stay around climate change is a hoax and making billionaires become trillionaires vehicles don’t put of a 1/10 of the pollution factories in other countries do it’s all about money like def etc engines don’t last a 1/3 of what they do when deleted electric cars don’t hold value doubt anyone will even buy the new electric ones
Mopar Nation All Day. But how can Anyone not love the ZL1. The thing looks like a Stealth fighter with candy paint. And that agile, light weight?! Good luck to Anything trying to take that down. You gon need it.
People can say what they like but the numbers don't lie. Both cars have the same torque at 650 lb-ft. The Camaro has 650 hp and the Hellcat has 9% more at 707hp but weighs 14% more then the Camaro. Also I'm sure the 10 speed transmission helps
Dodge SRT hellcat is the most trash slow piece of shit ZL11LE is monster even manual ZL11LE beat trash slow boat dodge Hellcat Chevroletperfomance team is the most top 🔝 team in the whole world for racing cars always ZL1 or Corvette owners will be big winners Ford Mustang GT500 or Dodge SRT Redyeye will be losers everyday. + European cars Lamborghini McLaren Porsche Ferrari.
People really think that just because Chargers and Challengers have high horsepower numbers that they don’t get walked constantly and consistently. I raced a 2018 Durango Citadel with a Hemi while I was in my 2008 Escalade EXT and walked away from it. When I talked to the driver he said he was shocked because he paid for the Hemi just to launch from lights and he saw my taillights the whole time.
@@dz_gt500 how about you look up races where hellcats beat zl1s dont purposely ignore them & act like they don't exist 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I wish i had go pro cameras to record my runs i had with zl1s.
@@SRTHEMI There’s videos of all sorts of cars beating each other what’s your point?🤷🏽♂️ These races were stock vs stock how they came out from the factory. Car and Driver also did a test with the gt500, zl1 & redeye….the redeye came in 3rd, zl1 2nd & gt500 1st. You can mod anything to be faster with enough money but this wasn’t what the video was about.
Love love watching the ZL1 in action. Car gets way less attention than it deserves compared to the hellcats. Great loss to the performance car market with it ending production.
@@SamCarLegion was definitely not meant as criticism. I love the channel.. but , i know what you mean by tweaking your videos.. If you are into air rifles , thats what my channel is about and i am always thinking of how i should tweak my videos as well..
Camaro guy here, this race didn't do the Hellcat justice. Had that Hellcat have decent tires on instead of near bald ones, that race would've been much closer. Both these cars are evenly matched, and the outcome goes both ways.
My 2018 Charger Hellcat M/T drag radial only ran a neighbors 2019 ZL1 with tune and exhaust. Unprepped surface the Hellcat won two races from a dig by 1/2 to 3/4 cars, no roll races were done.
@@sulkmahidonkeydek3424 Sold the Hellcat after 4 years, it was trapping 124 to125mph on the factory timer in the car for 1/4 mile, also ran it up to 190 mph once. BTW I like the ZL1 Camaros.
@@robwwhit3453 I’m not a dig person, prefer rolls less variables. Seeing if I’m faster or they are is more than satisfying. Less excuses for both sides
@@someferarriguy7910 lol this is true with the power cars are making before even modding. i was surprised that that zle won every time. i expected close races. unless these cars arent stock.
Hellcat needs some decent rubber. Also I see a lot of hellcat guys don’t know how to launch these cars(not saying that the owner doesn’t know how to launch his car I just mean in general). From a dig you put the car in second gear and turn all drive modes to track EXCEPT suspension, put suspension in comfort or street mode so when you launch it squats in the rear due to it being on a softer setting which helps with the weight transfer. This gives you a way better launch then you would have with the suspension being stiff. Good runs though nonetheless. That Maro looks so 🔥 with the 1LE package. 💯💯💯
so what happen in the roll then where there wasn't traction issues, cause it still lost, i ran these combo many times stock to stock using the regular zl1 which is faster on asphalt and straight away and the zl1 always won, when i add sticky or mods then i keep getting different results back and forth
@@Mofasa_zl1 Ur absolutely correct about the roll as well but 2 factors give the ZL1 a great advantage even with less power it’s 700lbs lighter and has and Amazing 10 spd Transmission!! It’s also has better gearing and Traction by far. But don’t get me wrong I’m former Hellcat owner so I’m not guessing figures here.
@@leroyjr261 i love both and had the opportunity to own both, as for the weight took mine to VMP track, without me in the car its a little over 4200 lbs so they is really only 200 lbs difference in reality, the transmission is definitely a greater advantage but for me its how they designed it that gives it far more advantage
@@jeremclean4668 i did many times, the kitty lost traction and caught traction while it was slightly still in front the camaro and both times the camaro came around the kitty. 10 speed transmission and aero is better on the camaro so it will happen every time stock to stock, of dodge had pay more attention to little details like this it would be a monster and also i know they make the throttle bodies kill the power of the car purposely to save the motor from dumb drivers who dont know how to brake in a motor properly
Very nice match-up, well filmed and with times. Love it. It seems like Hellcat couldn't launch well. Did they try a few races and that was its best launch? We hear the owner say at the end that he should have done a burnout before. Nevertheless, nice cars!
I love my Ro SS. That's all I'm going to say Lol and no I don't have a zl1, and I love those also but I don't need one to have a little fun. Maybe the SRT should race some tanks. I'm just kidding.
I'd like to see the Camaro against a Trackhawk. The AWD on the Trackhawk should smoke the Camaro on the launch, but the higher power/weight ratio of the Camaro should catch up quickly. Would be quite interesting.
Louis Chevrolet would be proud. Wish Mary Barra could see this race. I own a 6th generation camaro. Great alpha chassis. My v6 335hp runs fantastic. Best car I ever owned… too bad it’s being discontinued… I like the looks of the challenger but its power to weight ratio is a little high. I wish more people could at least drive the camaro on the highway and on twisty turny roads to see how nice it really is….
Can you move your finish line video camera so that the orange markers are lined up? With the camera skewed, it makes the photo finishes harder to evaluate.
No. Put a carbon fiber track package GT500 with the cup 2 tires and not base model GT500 and the GT500 wins. GT500 beat both the hellcat redeye and Camaro ZL1 1LE in the drag on a video
haha no, everyone wants to bring a dodge with small tires, nobody would ever try to lay down that HP on those tiny tires, it is only to hope the other one wins, and no you do not need a prepped track, just put on the proper size tires and watch the beating, now go down to Texas and watch the real 1/4 mile races, they will have the right tires and scorch those things, but they will also have shit with 5000 hp.
@negativezero yeah, with a lot of power comes a lot of responsibility, I've seen lamb's with 3500hp just shooting of like bullets down 1/4 mile, imagine the Gforce on that omg would pass out
Hellcat, gt500, zl1, all great machines, all right there at the finish. Can't really go wrong with any of them. Just depends on how you like to spend your time driving. I chose the zl1.
Why wasn't there a view from inside the Camaro? I need to hear that glorious LT4 from inside! These are my two favorite muscle cars anyway. An LS/LT/Hemi pushrod V8 with a cross-plane crankshaft will always trump a Coyote.
Anyone notice the hellcats tires looked like they weren’t in the best shape. Maybe why it spun every race and that ZL1 capitalized on that. Also why the older hellcat and not a 2022 widebody with 305s?Both great cars not hating.
Boat vs sports car. Very cool! Thank you Sam for showing 0 to 60 and quarter mile. That was the only thing missing from your videos and my guess that will add subscribers.
By definition, a sports car has 2 doors, and 2 seats or less. Camaro and Mustangs are typically 2+2 cars, classified as pony cars. Corvette is a sports car, not a muscle car. Challengers are muscle cars. Chargers are muscle sedans(i guess). The old school chargers are muscle cars, just like chevelle and nova.
Great video, the Hellcat did spin pretty bad but even after it hooked up it got walked, the weight difference is just too much to overcome. Of course I'm guessing the Camaro spun pretty bad also. Both impressive cars!
I am always confused on how many MOPAR fans live in the delusion that hellcats are the fastest. Edmunds even released a vid of the ZL1 beating the red eye (note, the GT500 was also in the race and won).
That’s because they always want to use the useless launch control in the Hellcats/Redeyes. LC in HEMI’s are straight garbage. Also first mod I did when I bought my 2016 Hellcat is swap out the crappy Pirelli tires with 305 Nitto DR’s with 20x11 wheels. My 0-60 went from 3.8 to 3.5 on the street and 3.3 at the track. Stock for stock Hellcats are no match for the other competition with similar power, but better tires will match or beat them. We blame the car company’s crappy choice in tires!
@@BruceDragon-sf1tr I disagree. Had my Hellcat for 7 years and only issue I had to replace one of the active exhaust valves. I’ve raced my car at the track few times and done a few highway pulls. Car still looks and feels like the day I drove him off the dealer lot. As far as I’m concerned, your statement is false!
@@BruceDragon-sf1tr Also I have mad respect for Mustangs and Camaros. Hell I wouldn’t mind having a Camaro SS 1LE manual in my stable if I could afford it. The Mopar are way more comfortable and practical, let alone fun to drive!
I'm wondering if the hell kitty had some better street rubber if it could keep up better. The stock tires that come on the hell kitty in my opinion suck
With better rubber and a proper launch it would’ve definitely been closer although the ZL1 would’ve still took it, it would’ve been a closer race for sure.
I’m surprised at the outcome, I know the Camaro is lighter, but usually HC’s come alive at the top end. I wonder if the HC was running radials would the outcome differ. Solid video.
Lol. 57 extra hp is not enough to overcome a 700 lbs weight disadvantage. The camaro is made way better. Camaro can actually be a road course/track car. You can road course/track the challenger, but it will always lose. It is made for straight line speed, and highway corners. But it makes sense, because the Camaro and Mustangs are classified as Pony cars, not muscle cars with the exception being the GT500 (weighs 4200lbs), and even that will run circles around the hellcat twins on any track.
@@Eastsidegeorgiaboy as a second time Camaro 6th gen V8 owner, after having two Scats, I completely agree. I know that segment is a trim down. But I could tell the weight and construction difference between them dramatically. Not to mention the scats I’ve pulled away from during some friendly rolls/digs. It’s just crazy what .02 milliseconds can do between cars on a strip.
Bravo nice win if a zl1 loses to a hellcat stock please bring your car to a dealer gt500 has more top end think it would be in last place till 60ish than reel both cars in
One thing that needs to be shown in these test, are what tire brands they are running. You can see that the Camaro is running pilot sport 4s tires. That challenger didn’t stand a chance, cause all you heard was spinning.
@@SamCarLegion actually the pliot sports makes a huge difference I have them on my Redeye and they are wayyy better than the PERELLI’s the hellcat comes with
@@SamCarLegionconsidering the hellcat tires were spent and it was only half a second or less behind due to not having traction I'd say at the very least some tires with tread will either give it a fighting chance or the upper hand. All depends on the driver though.
Camaro has a advantage with grip 11in wide wheels on the back where as the hellcat has 9.5in wide wheels I think the result might be different if the hellcat had 11in rear wheels and wider tire
@Sam CarLegion y'all clearly don't know how to race with these cars. If you launch the hellcat PROPERLY, and roll race it PROPERLY it most definitely will beat a ZL1. There is video evidence of it literally all over youtube.
@@SamCarLegionlol stop acting clueless. RU-vid is right here for you quick search will prove otherwise 😂😂😂😂. I race also & when us hellcat owners actually have decent tires its bye bye!
My PDR is full of hellcats loosing Also you race a zl1 in track mode with sub file in race mode. That's full power lol not sport which defaults to wet mode 😊
I'd never really thought that would happen. Big hits to gm. Wowie. I think it's always this way. Bigger is slower. Mustang being the sport compact eat all. Supra is tasty but a sc400 is my fast choice
