i always take off the lower ball joint so much faster and more room as you pull it the shaft comes out so much easier its just way easier less bolts and time saver
@1:10 That leaking gasket and especially the smaller silver one, which was loose and came apart, did they produce any noise when driving? And was the Transmission Fluid leaking a lot, like dripping? In other words how the customer became aware of this problem? I have 2003 Chevy Cavalier, and it makes rhythmic noise, which doesn't depend on the gear you are in. I tried to changed the gears when driving, but the sound didn't change. It depends on rpms only. So I hope it is a suspension (particularly Right CV Axle), and not the engine. On idling - no of that sound. Also when I recently changed the transmission fluid, I noticed that the right CV Axle inner end was kind of wet or in some oil. So I think I might have a similar problem, like in this film. The film is very helpful, thanks a lot.
@Jonathan-mp7xg Thank you for the replay and concern about my problem. One of our cars is also Saturn, but 2001 Saturn SL2. I replaced there both CV Axles, everything is fine w/suspension. On the Driver Side I didn't replaced the Seal, it looked normal to me. I replaced it on Pas Side, it was not hard at all, but I did a lot of research what grease and how much to put into the Intermediate shaft there. 2003 Chevy I'm working on now is much more complicated car for repairs due to very limited space. I replaced radiator and Fan Motor there, it was very hard. On Saturn I also replaced radiator, and it was way easier. Anyway, I'll let you know what comes w/that CV Axle on the Dr S of Chevy. I just saw (working on that radiator) that all the RS CV Axle inner part is covered w/some kind of grease. I assume maybe the Seal (Cup) got basted and the grease from inside came out in such amount that it causes wobbling of that Axle. I strongly hope for that, afraid that it might be Connecting Rod(s) in engine.
Im not exactly sure what the name of the silver piece is, if thts the part your referring too. But if you google auto trans output shaft seal for the cobalt, The whole set pops up with the gasket.
Yes, if you are referring to the inner metal peice. Tht has a gasket on it as well. I would do both so you know both gaskets are all set. I would order thet set on rockauto. Way more affordable.
I'm doing a 08 g5, and the axle u took off looks way different, did u break the insert end of axle or is that how is made, on mine, the spline is attached when removed
Sorry man, I double checked, youtube took that option away. i just checked my profile, it wont allow me to decide what ads pop up. its comes randomly. Just back out and reload it again, maybe a different ad will pop up.
