Chevy Cruze 1.4 P0324 and engine noise

Engine noises that this tensioner mimicked while running. Definitely traveled through the engine and decided to take the valve cover off this time to inspect everything as the first attempt the customer just wanted to try replacing the knock sensor and go from there. Definitely sounded like valve noise most of the time, the other times it sounded like rod knock. So if you have this noise it's a simple procedure to check your timing by removing the valve cover. Not saying this will be it, but this is my 3rd cruise with the same problem.
Yes I know I say Nod Rock, I was a little dyslexic while recording haha.

Thanks for this video! P0324 has been coming up and some worsening ticking noise has started a few months after replacing the head. This is a good, easy first check before a full redo.

Been trying to figure out what’s wrong with my Cruze for a year now even replaced the knock sensor. My Cruze makes e same noise so I’m going to check that next. Thanks for the video!

@@SyntheticVisionsAutomotive this was the exact problem actually. Just tightened down the bolts again and she’s running great with no noise or check engine light. Getting it inspected Monday wish me luck!

@magnusclapront947 just a little advice in the future, don't just change parts and hope it fixes it. When something like this wrong you are going to find something that caused the issue like vibration in your suspension can be a ton of things but if you inspect your components you will find something worn, broken or leaking.

@@johngarnica2114 yea replacing the knock sensor only made sense because I knew that knock sensors had a role in valve timing and it sounded like the timing was off so I thought it was a faulty sensor but I should’ve known with a sound that loud that it was something internal. Thanks for the advice!

Glad this helped! Also thank you for letting us know it works on the volt as well!

Oddly enough, mine turned out to be a loose sparkplug. Also, the coil pack had a loose bolt. The noise,(ticking/knocking), only happened, when the engine warmed up. I didn't have any codes, either. Always check the simple things first!

Keep an eye out though. Common issue. Glad it was simple though! Congrats as well!

I have 'knocking' noise in the engine (Chevy cruze 1.4), this might be the issue? Also, do you have a tutorial on how to remove the valve cover? Thanks man!

It's possible. It's one of few things that can do it. If you take the belts off that can also let you know if it's an accessory or pulley as well. Just don't leave it running for too long. I'm sure if you look for valve cover gasket replacement for this vehicle on here you'll find it. Pretty much take the ignition coils off and some clips then the rest is just the bolts. Let me know what you find so things can be documented and help others. If you can try to record your process and upload! Every video, even if the same vehicle can always help someone.

Plus it never hurts replacing the gasket and checking timing on a vehicle. A good visual inspection inside can tell you a lot about your maintenance and fluids you use.
