well apparently Chevy is NOT paying attention to us, I have a 2020 and it just started doing that, I sure am glad y'all are here sharing your experienced, thanks for saving me some mechanic unnecessary fee's.
I have the 2015 Malibu ltz and it happen to me twice when it goes to auto stop the engine chokes and turns off and won’t turn on, I had to wait about 20 minutes for it to be able to turn on, i took it to see if my battery was bad but I was told it was the alternator that needed to be replaced, got it replaced a few days ago, yesterday it did it again, so it’s better to put the car in parking if I’m in a light so this won’t happen again?
Having the same issue. Car also starts up rough. But as a band aid, just shift to M when you come to a stop and back to D when you're ready to start going again. Don't shift to N, because that's unnecessary wear on transmission components. What I'm going to do it take electrical cleaner and clean off all electrical connections to both batteries, fuses, and the starter. If possible, remote start the vehicle and listen by those locations and you might be able to find what the issue.
cbro412 that’s what I do now . As long as it never stops it’s fine. When I have enough money I’ll get it looked at but I know they will say they can’t figure it out.I did not want a Chevy and this is why.did you fix the issue?
Have any of you found the fix to this issue? I purchased a sensor that turns off the Stop/Start system but low fuel light turns on, the issue comes back.
Hey everyone so I was having the exact same issue as in this video. The engine light came on, I checked the code and replaced rear battery. Nothing happened, light stayed on. So I ended up replacing the 175 amp midi fuse that is in the fuse block on top of the front battery and that fixed this whole issue. Ordered the fuse from amazon for like $6. Hope this helps someone else!
Hmm. I have a 2016 Chevy Malibu Limited...which is a cross between a 2015 and 2016. Your interior looks the same as mine. It did this for the first time tonight at a red light. I turned the key to off and restarted it. Although, I didn't have any more trouble the rest of the way home. I see in the comments that it might be the battery in the trunk going bad. I'll look into that. Thank you!
I have the same exact model as you, just got it back from a gm deale and it’s the battery in the trunk. I’m going to pick it up today, unfixed so I will see how I acts. Engine light just came on two days ago.
Did anyone find the problem for this I have a 2015 and my car is doing the same thing I’ve took it to the dealer 3 times and they can’t find the problem
Pretty much the same thing with the auto stop. I have a 2016 and although it’s very intermittent, when stopped and I lift my foot off the break, it kills the whole car for about a second or two, electrical and all. It always seems to come back on but sometimes it waits a few seconds and that’s a real shit feeling to have a dead car at a light.
I have a comment on this video on how to fix this issue. I was having the same issue and found it to be a 175 amp midi fuse was blown right above the battery under the hood.
Same happen to me today but my car died completely, wait for 10 minutes then started again but it wouldn't go more then 40 then it died again.....someone knows what's wrong with it?
I have a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu when I'm driving and come to a complete stop at the light it goes dead but the engine is still running what kind of problem is that that I'm having
I have the same issue on my 14 Chevy Malibu but I changed both batteries plus new plugs and new battery sensor and still does the same thing at the stops when I stop at the light it turns off but does turn back on but I had to open the hood then start it up again it works for while but it's just very annoying.
1st I check the problem with a device I got on Amazon for 20 dollars to tell me what was wrong. It was a code for the back aux battery. I changed it. The light was still on but car ran better. I put the device to check it again but this time I pushed "clear codes". After I did that and removed the device. Turned off the car and back on, the engine light turned off. I hope that helped.
I have the 2014 chevy malibu, the auto stop engages at a stop light, when the car starts back up the engine misfires and rattles then shuts off. I go and start it up again and the engine misfires and rattles then I must pump the gas pedal for it to start. Then the car drives off like nothing happened. The car runs great but that auto stop feature sucks. I must shift into natural at every light to avoid that. Is there a response and fix from Chevy?
Mine is a 2014 with 68000 on it it has problems with start stop, now it’s not starting, If it sits over night, if I drive it a lot like for a few hours it will start the next day, this is nuts.
Having the stop start issue . Except when I come to a stop it shut off fine after releasing the break it won’t snap out of that feature. I have to put the car in park shut it completely down and restart the car
I have a 2014 Chevy Malibu and it’s working my last nerve. Just fixed engine code p16cf. Which took months to get the piece from a shortage of it or something and almost everyone that had the same vehicle had the same issue. Now when my car auto stops and turns back on it shakes and shuts down and wouldn’t start after multiple attempts. I hit the gas pedal after the final try and it started. The car still feels weird and shaky but I also put it on neutral when coming to a stop to avoid the auto stop!!
Does somebody know if there is a recall for this problem? My 2015 just started to do this but I always have the air conditioner on and that helps also my trunk doesn’t open quick I have to push various times the button. Is this relatively to the trunk battery also?
These cars have two batteries. The Auxiliary battery is in the left wall of the trunk. If that battery goes bad, it will lead to all sorts of weird stuff happening with the Auto Stop system. Check your Auxiliary Battery.
@@terrellshepherd1740 crank sensor buy the starter is bad and it tells the the car to start so you won’t have to do it manually when the the auto stop kicks in and when it goes bad it doesn’t tell the starter the start when you take your feet off the brake that’s why you have to end up starting it manually and on mine it didn’t even throw a code the symptoms are a rattling noise upon every cold start only and your car would hesitate a lil like jumpy if you would say and it goes away that’s the sensor telling you it going bad it might not throw a code and I replaced my starter and then it still did it but I knew then the CRANK SENSOR WAS BAD changed it problem solved I promise!
I was going at the light and my car was still running but my lights and stuff went out okay and I bought a berry full to go in the trunk of it but now it's not everything went out but it's still not cutting off when you pull at the light
Got my preowned 2016 malibu limited back in November and I am currently having this exact issue with the original warranty freshly expired. Got any info as to what's going on with yours yet? I'm a first time car buyer and have no clue where to start to get something like this resolved.
I've had the same issues 3 times. Once in my driveway and twice at traffic lights. But mines goes completely dead or act like it's trying to build up power to start by itself making the lights and radio and windshield wipers come on and off. But never builds up enough power to crank back up by itself. I've had to get a jump. Letting the battery charger a bit then it starts back up. This is the third time with 3 to 4 weeks in between. I've also heard a clicking sound twice coming from the left side where the fuse box is. I believe it's something going on with the fuse box. I have a 2015 Malibu. Also had the battery, starter, and alternator check and they are good. Update: I needed a new battery. I had the wrong battery needed a AGM battery. Problem solved for me.
This happened to me, except everything blacked out, and this ultimately led to my car battery dying, got a new one car worked good for a week, started doing the blackout again, then the car dies completely again. Can’t even unlock the car or blow the horn. I assume it’s the auxiliary battery. Does anyone have a solution to this?
I'm having the same problem with my 2015 Malibu recently. At stops the radio blacks our, turns off, then when I start again it takes a second to kick back on. I bought it pre-owned from CarMax, thinking it's still under warranty. Any ideas of there's a recall?
My 2014 Chevy Malibu shutting off at stops after car gets a good warm up. I changed camshaft, crankshafts sensors. Intake and exhaust timing solenoids. I changed timing chain kit. New spark plugs and still shutting off. At stops not while driving. What’s the issue ?
WOW YOU DID A SHIT TON OF PARTS REPACEMENT FOR NOTHING.YOU MUST LIKE SHOOTING A PARTS CANON AND HOPING FOR SOMETHING TO STICK.SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE MORE MONEY THAN COMMON SENCE.TAKE IT TO A PROFESSIONAL TECH FOR PETE SAKE!!!!!
Replace the battery in the truck area, the car has two batteries. Under the hood is for starting and running purposes, the one in the trunk powers internal displays and supplies power to interior during engine stops, if this hasn’t already been performed
Auto start shuts off but won’t turn back on. Chevy dealer said both batteries are good but i’m gonna replace them anyway since that’s what everyone says and I don’t know what else to do
I’ve recently started having this issue. At first, I was driving around and I have carplay since it’s a 2018 malibu LT. it seemed as if my aux cord for carplay was going out because my music started cutting out briefly. After that incident, the radio ran fine never had an issue again. Weeks later, I was on my way to work, stopped at a light. The car was on functioning as normal until I took my foot off the break to accelerate. My car immediately shut all the way off and I had to wait for it to cut back on. It cut on right away but wouldn’t allow me to accelerate until my gauges stopped moving so I was holding up traffic temporarily. Once my car cut on my doors unlocked and I got a message saying service stabilitrak. Once again, a few weeks went by, no problems. Then I started getting service stabilitrak messages on my dash but my car wasn’t cutting off. A couple weeks later once again, I was on my way to work and my car shut off in autostop at a light but cut right back on again. I was 5 min away from work. At the next light, this time the car did not shut on and wouldn’t allow me to start it as if the battery had died. But my car would turn on and the radio worked. I sat in the middle of the street downtown chicago for about 30 min before the car allowed me to cut it back on. After that I knew I had to take it to a mechanic asap. Took the battery to autozone, they tested it and said it was charged. I believe it’s the original battery that came with the car. Later that day, i tried to start my car and it was completely dead. Didn’t let me turn the car on at all. Took it to a mechanic and they said it was the alternator. Replaced the alternator. After a week went by, started having the same issues again but they progressively get worse as time goes on. Today my car won’t start. The car is on, but the engine won’t start. Needless to say I’m getting concerned. This is a 2018 and chevy is still making these cars that have these serious defects . Any suggestions on what to do. I don’t think it’s the battery
Yep the exact same issue mine is also a 2015 model and I replaced the battery and still having the exact same issue, are they having recalls on these models
Me too and it happened after I changed the battery out of pocket. Its time to complain together right to GM. We need a true recall. Fuck the bulletin they did for me 3 months ago.
I see there are kits out there to disable this feature. Found one the other day for almost $200. You plug it into the OBD port with a laptop and it disables the feature in the ECM. Thinking about buying it for my 2015 Malibu.
I just purchased a 2016 malibu ltz in June with 150k miles. The auto start has refused to come on twice in the last two weeks at a red light. If I put the car in park, and restart the car, it comes back on. There is no check engine light on when my car is running. Only lights on my dash is “service brake assist” and “service stabilitrak” and the abs light. If someone has the solution to this problem, PLEASE help me out.
Nov. 23 my husband and I were driving our 2015 malibu when we started smelling smoke. Seen smoke coming into our car so we stopped and got out. It was coming from the trunk. We opened the trunk and my car caught fire right at that battery. Don't know yet if it's electrical or that battery but it definitely came from that area.
It will hesitate and cut off then back on when I put It in reverse. When I stop at a light after being in the car for about 15 minuets I can feel it shaking some.
Nikko Biggers hi did you ever find out whats going on with you car. ... mine is doing the same and the diagnostic reader come up with nothing. but its shakes like crazy. pls let me know.
Hello- I hope someone reads this who can help. My 2014 Malibu is dying out at lights when the auto stop feature kicks on. Never did this before - had it 3yrs. There is NO code coming up in scanner & check engine light is off. It is a matter of time before I am rear ended. Please help w/ suggestions!!!!
Deon Allen I paid the same shit cause the car was stopping really hard and making this squeaking noise engine light was in but wasn’t nothing else wrong with the car it’s like it wasn’t responding to the hybrid
My 2014 Malibu had the same problem I had replaced the auxiliary battery after that’s the car was working perfectly but now during the auto stop sometimes the car doesn’t start up normally it stays off if I turn the key to turn it on the car starts very slow not as usual (no check engine light)
So I have a 2019 my car is still fairly new it only has 47,000 miles on it. I've been experiencing everything you all are speaking of. The radio the lights are turning off the car is turning off at stop signs red lights some days it doesn't want to start. My husband and I recently just bought a brand new battery that cost $250 because we thought it was the problem now when you accelerate it acts as if it doesn't want to go this is ridiculous and while all this is going on the check engine light is not on so when I take it to the shop they tell me oh everything's fine how do we get a recall on these vehicles this is a waste of our money and time!!
Today I had the same thing happen, but on the 2017 model. My check engine light has been turning on for a few day and turning off, but each time I am at the dealer they find no problem / no light. After the hard restart/ check engine light today, I got a stabiltrac service message and a steering assist reduced message as well.
I have the same issues. I fixed my issues by buying a lANCEL 4.5 out of 5 stars 4,293Reviews ANCEL AD310 Classic Enhanced Universal OBD II Scanner Car Engine Fault Code Reader CAN Diagnostic Scan Tool-Black . After I found out it was the auxiliary battery I changed it. About $120 at Advanced Auto parts. I check it again and had to clear the codes for the check engine light to turn off. The check engine light stayed in until I clear the codes.
I have the same problem man The battery might be the cause. What you need to check the voltage Your dashboard settings And see if it fluctuates. I'm having the same problem Has something to do with the electrical charging system.
Going out to troubleshoot my car now And remember you have to batteries One under the hood One in your trunk The one in your trunk should be for the auto stop and start. But if either batteries bad still You will have a problem.
I have a 2015 chevy Malibu Lt2 model and i had the same issue except mine would stop and start about 5 times and then would just crank and not start back and after 5 minutes of it sitting i could start it up after 5 more times it would crank and not start i put my OBD2 test on it an it showed me that my dual battery control module was the problem so i bought one put it on and all my problems have been solved
I have the problem right now, just took it to a shop they change battery and other stuff, still got the same problem How can I fix that please anyone know?
Mine doesn’t have check engine light on, after auto stop is activated and I take my foot off the break, it completely shuts off. Change the auxiliary battery and still does it.
My wife told me the same thing but a couple of times when we drive around for about a hour in the highway we stop at a exit and it would sure up but when we let go of the brake it would try to turn on but start stuttering and not turn on . I had to push the car out the road to the side wait about 3 min then turn car on and drive . I think it is the battery
Mine does the same. Spent $3k so far and they can't figure out what is wrong. Both batteries replaced, plugs and wires changed, ground replaced, timing chain replaced, 2 sensors and 1 idler pulley. Did you ever find out the cause?
I have a 2015 that is doing the exact same. Just bought a battery for $187 & still doing it. Bought an auxiliary battery as well hopefully that fixes it once it’s changed out😭
@@franciscogarcia9087 my Brother bought a brand new Malibu right out of Vietnam 1969 green one 2 dr. This 2015 I went and got right off the dealership is no where near the value his was.
Thank God I have 2013 no start stop no troubles for90 k miles. No stupid trunk battery to worry about come on how much gas is it goining to save when you add the cost of the unreliable star stop system.
@@connierodriguez5421 hi I still have mines, and it's still doing the same thing. Ive gotten. New battery and my radio still turns off when it auto stop/starts. It annoying. I've learned to out it on N and then switch to D to avoid it from turning off. As if it's stick shift lol
I will never buy another chevy mine keeps shutting down in a curve im talking to chevy right now im seeing if they will help me i will let you know the results as soon as i can
I'm having a similar issue. Whenever the auto stop function kicks in, the car shuts off! I have to prevent the car going to the auto stop when I come to a stop. I have a 2015 Malibu. Anyone have any suggestions???
Did you ever find a solution i’m having this problem now. Car auto shuts off but won’t turn back on when I take my foot off the brake. Took it to chevy and they said both batteries are good and they don’t know they’ll have to run more test
My car lock up on me in auto stop but it was my generator but my fan in the trunk was fucked up as in the battery was over heating so my car was shutting down not been able to keep a charge but once fan got fixed it ran better
Auto start feature might be the one of the worst thing GM could add to the malibu I would've of kept this car but auto start was messing up trade it in . never messing with auto start features.
I had the same problem and I fixed it by installing two new ground wires. One goes from negative battery post to under the battery box and the other goes from under the battery box to the engine. I couldn't find anything wrong with the cables but having removed the battery already I decided to replace them. Both cables I used were 4 gauge 24" (pn DW424B).
The service department advised me to change my battery cable as its slightly charred. I hope this works for you. I'm let you know this happened to me while on the highway last week. I'm not impressed that this is not a recall
Anyone else having a issue where the auto-stop shuts off the car, (while still in drive) you press the gas and the car starts going in reverse? Seems to be a minor issue…but I drew the short straw of yet another bad Chevy car. Can’t seem to find a fix online.
I’m having this issue… I brought my car 3 weeks ago and I’ve only been able to drive it a total of a week, it’s been in and out of the shop , the dealer who sold it to me keeps trying to convince me there’s nothing wrong with the car…
Got a 2017 Malibu. Completely shut off at light yesterday. Not even able run hazards. Then center display read charging emergency battery. The. After 45 min it started. Took it to dealer and they ran electric test and showed in history low voltage on all modules. Couldn’t pinpoint problem. Now I am driving with fear.
Yep - the Auto-Stop "sometimes" sucks the life out of the battery, watched it on the Batt Voltage Readout yesterday go from 13.5 down to 11.7 and then the Steering Alert Came on, I then took my foot off the brake so it would start and the voltage went up to 12.5 - not sure what the heck is going on, but its annoying and in shop again.
just an update - for anyone having this issue - the dealer services said 'it didn't do the problem' had it for over 24 hours, they emailed the "chevy think tank in detroit" and they checked and have no issues for my year, make model of it doing this.. then yesterday - it did it again - and after an hour of driving, the car goes back to normal - for my first hour or so the voltage stays at 12.4 volts and does NOT GO UP - causing issues when I auto-stop - I am not mechanic and not an electrician but been driving for over 40 years, this is a classic case of an alternator going bad - but CHEVY says no --
I have a 2016 Malibu and the same exact thing happened to me. It was totally dead and also the hazards wouldn't work. I ended up taking it to the Chevy dealer and they ran a test on the entire computer system and tested the battery and found no history of computer errors and the battery they said was completely good. Wtf?? Also driving in fear now
Perhaps you need a second opinion. Years ago a Pontiac dealer could not find an AC leak. Went to “Joe’s” garage and he knew the problem and how to fix. Car fixed! BTW, that was my last GM brands car.
