Just crossing the straight pipes doesn’t help anything. You need a H pipe or X pipe to cross over, where they’re actually connected. And it’s not necessarily “backpressure” that’s being created when you do that. You connect the two pipes to achieve the same goal as collectors. It’s to allow the pulses to create a more uniform vacuum, allowing exhaust gases to evacuate more efficiently. It was a good attempt though.

The cammed one sounded like it had a massive exhaust leak as it was backing out to drive off. 5:46

My truck is no where near as loud but i spin tires doing 20. I think i got my priorities straight.

I will keep my opinions to the exhaust on both trucks. On the first truck, you never weld the flanges of the headers to the exhaust system itself. That makes it very hard to change the the header gaskets when they leak or to work on the engine and transmission. You will just end up cutting the exhaust system just to make room to do what you got to do. Not a fan of the huge bucktooth tips hanging out the back but that's what he wants so be it. Truck number two has a massive exhaust leak from the front of the headers. You could definitely hear it but he was backing out. Like I said before I'm not a fan of the oversized tips but they look better on the lowered truck coming out of the sides instead of hanging down below the bumper like the first truck. And they both need x or h pipes. They both sound horrible with the clapping as they drove off. The second truck has a better idle then the first truck too. The cam makes a difference.

Cammed but didn't upgrade the rockers and valve springs. The exhaust work was nice though.

I'm restoring a '78 Grand Marquis coupe and I'm about to put an exhaust system on it. It has a race-built 5.0L 302 with a 272 cam in it and I was thinking about putting a true dual setup with some long tubes on it, 2 1/4 pipes, no cats, flowmaster super 44's, and turn downs right before the rear axle. Y'all think it'll sound good?
