A word of warning for those using sesame seed oil as a garnish for the first time. DO NOT use too much, it’s rich af. Put a bit in, taste, add more if you need to. If you drizzle it over like you would olive oil all you’re going to be tasting is sesame seed oil.
Try this sauce instead: 1 tbsp of light soy, 1 tbsp of dark soy, 1 tbsp of oyster sauce, 1 tbsp of honey, a drizzle of toasted sesame seed oil - mix together and pour over once you've added the noodles ;) Otherwise, it's all just going to taste like soy sauce.
I feel that bell peppers should be reserved for non-noodle stir fry dishes. It just takes away from the noodles which is the star of the dish in chow mein. But thats just my opinion. Veges that work great are : Cabbage, Bean Sprouts, Bok Choy, Celery and Carrots. Some of the veges mentioned won’t combine well and the dish will lose uniformity if you add them together. Like if you use Bok Choy don’t put celery. If you put Bean Sprouts don’t put cabbage because they serve the same purpose of adding crunch to the recipe. Awesome recipe regardless. Thank you Sir!!
Hi Dave! I have been watching your videos for about 3 years, I just made these noodles and I can’t explain how easy and tasty it was! And the smell and the taste was incredible! I love your channel so much it is so easy and amazing! Thank you 😊

Sorry, but that's Chicken LO Mein, not Chow Mein. Lo mein has noodles, Chow mein has lots of bean sprouts in it. Chow mein does not have pasta in it. Except for the bits of meat, it's all vegetables in a light sauce.
I've had Chicken chow mein from Chinese restaurants all my life and it was never served with noodles. If anything, they give you those crunchy short sticks on the side. Some people will put them on their chow mein and they turn soft in the sauce. But I don't like it that way. I might put some soy sauce on my chicken chow mein, but that's it. The crispy noodles I like to nibble on dry as a snack. (sort of like pretzel sticks) But here, chow mein is never served on top of precooked noodles. Even in China town in Boston, it is not served that way. However, Lo mein is. Chow mein depends on the bean sprouts as it's base, they make up the bulk of the dish. It is meant to be a light dish, mostly vegetables with some meat. It's great to eat when your stomach has not been very well but you need to eat something fairly solid. It's not a heavy dish to digest.
the word chow mein is Chinese words it applies in Chinese alone, In Philippines is pansit, in Thai is Sen guay Teaw, Every Nationality has many recipe version of this noodle, they don't copy each other but in seasoning is almost identical,..
its ok my friend,....!!! because In the Philippines they have thousand recipe's on noodle, they also have noodle that are unimaginable recipe, go to Cambodia deep fried snake with stir fried noodles, the cook shreed the snake meat discarding the bones add to the noodles, of course when you are drunk & hungry you like to try it,..
I just made ur version of chow mein and bought the original one from chinese store so the difference between them is ur recipe is lack of sugar, bamboo shots and butter these 3 ingredients were crucial, I dont have bamboo shots but i could add some butter and a tb.sp of honey and everything changed👍 it is way better now😍
chicken should be set aside to not overcook...no oyster sauce, no sesame seed oil,no ginger, no garlic,no salt , no msg,no rice wine, too many things missing from the traditional ...I don`t know ,just seems a soy sauce based chow mein, looks good but the taste?...this not for me.
I'm gonna start making mine at home. I had some the other day and it was the most disgusting chow mein i've ever had. I've NEVER had bad chow mein before. The restaurant was bought out by new people and they can't cook lol.
