Honestly this movie was great I really enjoyed how ridiculous it was and the stop motion was top notch....yeah it was a rehash of the first but it was still great, and no joke the scientist had no business being so funny, the amount of simping he does is so over the top It's incredible
Personally I prefer it between the og , I feel like it now imbraces the stupidity with it having more time to shine , also the movie is just visually phenomenal , with this im talking the colors not the animation (the animationis obviouly still better tho ), the og movie looked kinda bland in the colors and yeah it worked for the semi SEMI dark tone that movie was going for but still , THE COLORS IN THIS MOVIE ARE SO GOOD which made the FVCIN TERRIFYING *fun* scene even more disturbing , i know i said the og was darker but that doesn't mean this movie wasn't still scary either
My sister and I love this movie, it’s just something you could go back and watch again anytime and you’d have fun. I didn’t feel that way about the first movie, but I still enjoyed it very much. I only wish Rocky had better lines in the second movie 😔
If they had all those "new people, new crew, yaddah yaddah yaddah" they couldve just... i don't know... made a new movie instead of sequel? Like how hard is it to just make the same movie but different characters?
Monk parrots are pretty quiet for parrots. I had one once and had cocktiels as a kid and the quaker was always quiet in comparison. I never recommend parrots as pets though, but they are rather unproblematic for parrots... besides for being chewers like all parrots. 😂 They will eat your house. 😂
They should have manned up and should have just admitted that they didn’t take back Gibson because he’s a literal cartoon vilain. Like he’s literally Mrs. Tweedy with balls. Because the original voice actress for Ginger is underrated and amazing.
Dang this is a cliche. Chicken run used to have many areas of symbolism that you had to really think deeply about the references. And the character growth was impressive.
Rocky is not stupid in the second, he just gets made the butt of the physical comedy scenes which he did in the first movie as well. Again point out as specific example of him being “stupid” Cause I don’t think people really either understand the second movie or have too much of a nostalgic exaggerated vision of the first movie
I’ve been raising chickens for 5 years now and no one can not tell me that old roaster is not a trans chicken. If you only have female chickens one is BOUND to take on the role of the roaster, like they won’t even lay eggs they will crow at dawn, the comb which is the red part on top of the chickens head also gets bigger like a roasters. Nature is fascinating
I had chickens and I let them roam my property like they're supposed to do, they would raise chicks who were 50% roosters and they would molest my older hens, after being chased and squatting down, their combs would turn purple and I don't think I have to expand on this ugly scenario, yep, time for chicken pot pies
It also required a special breed of corn, popping corn, which would absolutely NOT be in a silo for FEEDING CHICKENS, that sh¡t is typical, cheap corn that would not pop.
I had one major question that no one is brave enough to bring up... at the end of the first movie when all the chickens are living free in the island, we clearly see that every chicken has their own baby chick but in this movie... only Ginger & Rocky had a baby chick (Molly) *WHERE IN THE LOVING McNuggets DID ALL THE OTHER BABY CHICKS GO???!*
Maybe they realized the implications that Rocky would have had to father all of them and just decided to retcon it. Although it seems like you answered your own questions with that mcnugget jab there lmao
Would of made sense for Fowler and Bunty to have all those other chickens. Considering her being the prized egg layer, and how "Bunty + Fowler" was carved into the tree at the end of the first movie.
Once my neighbor's chicken was hatching chicks, and they were telling us about how the mother hen tried to kill some babies, and the humans had to stop her. Chickens have many dino instincts left I guess...
The bit I love about this is Ginger's characters she's a coddling parent who went through some traumatizing hijinks and she doesn't want her daughter to experience what she experienced, the bit where one chicken is butchered, fried, and processed into nuggit ginger pulls her daughter away and goes "look at me and do not look away" she's seen that type horror and doesn't and Molly to see what she has seen over her life, I loved that
Fowler- yea not him, the other guy, they wasn’t his chicks. He had to establish himself as the new cock in the heard. Old guy is not a threat at all. He is just another hen who can’t lay eggs but he can help raise the new chicks even keep the eggs warm. But he isn’t gonna get with the other hens no more, if he wants to live he has to sit the fuck down and don’t ever think about doing the rooster cackles again unless he wants to fight Rocky till death for supremacy of the chicken house. And I’m only exaggerating a little bit.
This movie also made me realize how inhumane and unethical Ms. Tweedy was going about killing chickens, just throwing them into grinders. There r more humane ways to kill a chicken so they don't feel pain, but she chose the most violent way of killing a chicken. And woman, if u hate chickens, chose a different profession
Stuff like that happens in real life, too. It's sick. Even in freaking Sweden, a country of supposedly pretty good animal protection laws, a certain factory literally did that. Treated them like meatballs on a conveyor belt. Another factory name had chickens with broken wings and stuff. They were handled without care.
@@iclynnx Are you referring to baby chicks? As messed up as it sounds, the grinder is almost instant. Gassing them can take a long time, so it sounds more humane, but in reality it can cause even more suffering.
@@WobblesandBean Baby chicks shouldn't even be slaughtered. Putting them on a conveyor belt to be dropped into a machine shows a huge lack of compassion and heart, be it adults or babies. They should live to adulthood at least, in a space where they can roam without crowding and eat well and be healthy. You can't slaughter baby chickens, it's too sad and immoral. I'd rather the adults be drugged to sleep with a gas too, like humans going in for surgery, before they're put in a machine. I grew up with chickens as pets, I love them, they have such interesting social lives and a lot of sounds to communicate, I can't stand the inhumane ways they're being treated.
@@iclynnx Chickens are exempt from the humane slaughter act in the United States. Have you ever notices how chickens are so heavily associated with stupidity and cowardice? That's called propaganda!
She used to just kill them quickly with an axe, but switched to the grinder because it was more efficient. I think using the grinder is perfect for someone who hates chickens lol
Ah, man chicken run me and my siblings would watch it religiously. Didn't have alot of money back then but the vhs taps saved us from boredom. It was right up there with the original Charlotte webb, babe and many more great times. 🙏🏽
Great video and points! Though I just wanted to raise a counterpoint to your dismissal or Molly as a stereotypical rebellious teen who just wants to explore the world. Whilst I do agree that she definitely needed more character, her wanting to explore the world made sense because she felt trapped where she was because Ginger wouldn't let her explore the outside world which is ironic because all Ginger ever wanted to do in the first movie was to escape where she was and discover the outside world. You might say it's repetitive but I'd argue that it adds nuance to Ginger's character as she takes on a caring, motherly role that is completely new to her
The “pack of n*#%?!!” Line always makes me fucking die of laughter because I’m like does he think we all just roam around in huge packs like wolves? Do we howl? 😂😂😂
The second one is beyond bonkers though, like even more so to a ridiculous degree. The first was far more grounded in a werid way haha this was okay, just sillier.
Also Miranda Richardson was brought back for Mrs Tweety And she is in her 50-60's And Fowler's f VA is literally Walder Frey from game of thrones Whose in his 80's and he ends up saving the day at the end. It's not a supported criticism at all.
@@mckenzie.latham91yeah they could’ve just said they don’t want the original voice actors instead of making some BS excuse like “they’re too old.” 🤦♂️
Exactly. They never said they were too old, they said their voices SOUNDED too old. Some older VAs can voice young characters, but it's probably just that Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson couldn't pull off the voices of a young couple anymore.
I think what made me not like this movie as much, for me anyways, is that the chickens feel too safe if that makes any sense? Like in the first movie the have limited resources so every attempt at escaping was a one and done type deal. In this movie they feel too safe, with how much they're given, like the suspense wasn't there when the final came about.
I did not like this movie. It had its moments but the first one did such a good job of balancing the humour and the dark serious moments. It felt like they were explaining their own jokes way too much and that pop song at the start of the movie just pissed me off. I don't have anything against pop in general but I am sick of hearing hollow pop songs that movies like to use for some reason. Also they did Babs dirty. In the first, she was just a bit airy and clueless sometimes but in this one it felt like they made her outright stupid
This is really subjective, The balance of humour and dark serious moments, made more sense with the first film, because the entire film takes place in a literal allegory for a prisoner of war camp whereas the sequel takes place where they are free, and then having to break into a concentration/death camp. As soon as the film gets to the part with the factory and the actual threat, it becomes more serious and dark with slight humour in it. I don’t agree with this complaint outright. "Also they did Babs dirty. In the first, she was just a bit airy and clueless sometimes but in this one it felt like they made her outright stupid” There is not much difference between the way the two are shown or depicted in movies, Babs was always shown to be in her own world, and clueless about things didn’t really feel much of a change there that stood out specifically.
As a kid, out of the 4 schools I went to as a kid three of them had this on tape and each and every single time we were allowed to watch a movie in class it was Chicken Run.
I saw the first chicken run in cinemas back in 2000, and remember saying towards the end of the movie "He just killed her" when mr tweedy pushed that thing down that i assumed back then squished mrs tweedy. I recently watched this film and when she made an appearance, i said to myself "oh guess not".. like years on ha
@mckenzie.latham91 yeah the barn door, and yeah either way i thought they gave her a villains death :-/ i always thought he outright murdered her for being a bitch to him lol
My favourite moment was when Mrs. Tweedy thought the man was proposing to her but he opened the box and she asked: "Ketchup?" His reply: "No, something completely new. I call it.. the dip."
I was pretty disappointed by this movie. I didnt dislike it by any means, but it was nowhere near as enjoyable for me as the original was. My expectations were also way too high
So glad you mentioned the horror element!! I’m fully grown and have been devouring horror since before I was 10, but that concept in particular gave me the skeeves and I thought I was such a goof for feeling that way about a “childrens’ movie”
It didn't for sure but having another is great. And they bought up the last stock the clay company had while they were going out of business to give us one last movie. ☺️just happy to see claymations shows talent
I thought it wasn't totally an unnecessary sequel. I thought it made sense for ginger to be protective to the point that she created an environment where Molly would feel trapped in, since she takes after her mother. It felt a bit like that "if people talked, they probably wouldn't have a conflict..." problem. But could Molly then have had one of those "I'm not like you, mom! I'm smarter, I can take care of myself, I'm not going to get caught" complexes that made her a bit more interesting and made it a pride thing for her? Was it as good as Chicken run? Not to me. But like you said, I can appreciate it. And actually I kinda screamed when Mrs Tweedy returned.
TO be frank, most sequels are unnecessary sequels there was no need for a terminator 2, or a kung fu panda 2, 3 or 4 the reason sequels are made is to do more with the character and world, not because it’s required which is why i hate the idea of necessary or unnecessary sequels
Ginger being replaced doesn't make too much sense but it sounds the same. Mel Gibson not being in the movie makes sense since the original movie is a chicken holocaust movie, and Gibson is famously antisemitic
I think that replacing Gipson was a great choice 💀 Also about the og actress maybe her voice don't suit the character anymore and they wanted a more accurate voice I don't think there's any ageism imo
Interesting fact, the wild was way in production and stuff before Madagascar😂. But because of different issues it got delayed and Madagascar ended up coming out before. However i do agree that it would be fun if Pig reviewed the wild
Somehow because they made the everything way bigger and more menacing, they made the scope of the situation feel smaller because they made it too unbelievable and look too easy for the chickens. The escape in the first movie genuinely felt like the most incredible escape of all time while in the second movie it was kinda just meh. Also ngl the giant factory was kinda boring. The first chicken farm was also boring, but in a good way because it helped the movie since it really made me want to escape as well, but in the second one it was kinda just bland.
If you're still interested in old vintage not kids kids movies please consider Rock-a-doodle or Pagemaster 🙏 the source of endless nightmares as a child
Personally the reason I didn’t like Molly is because she felt like a Mary Sue at times. She’s 11 and barely reacts to super traumatic shit! “Oh my mom is brainwashed…so annoying” or how she barely reacts to the violent chicken stuff! It’s weird. Honestly would have liked the movie without her. I also noticed that if you remove certain characters the plot barely changes. Remove Fowler? Plot stays the same. Remove Frizzle? Plot stays the same. They put way too much spotlight on Molly and the concept instead of the characters.
There seems to be this literal culture of just hating anything that is made in this day and age I have seen a lot of people hate on chicken run 2 for the dumbest of things.
@@BladeAllen666you can dislike the movie Just have actual good criticisms And not petty and or nostalgic whining about the first movie. I'll give you a perfect example of a real criticism of the film The score, yes they got John Powell back to do it, but the main music for the film is a mix of the original films score and while fun doesn't carry the same weight or gravity of the original score The original opening score with the opening montage crawl of the first film is very epic and grandiose The building of the crate and prepping to escape scores used later in the film are powerful and invoke the feeling of ingenuity and courage carried by the characters. The second film's score is fine but there are no real grandiose score moments or moments like that that do compare. I think that was one of the film's biggest flaws, was losing out on the epic score themes that the first film excelled at. That's a real criticism not "Well I found the face off putting with the new cast, therefore bad film" Or "Character I misremembered doing stuff was worse despite doing similar things this movie". Crap that seems to be the majority of problems people had with it. Superficial, petty or rimmed by nostalgic pandering that doesn't hold up.
@@mckenzie.latham91 I'll give u the fucking soundtrack though I didn't mind My Sweet Baby, personally. But yea, the soundtrack is LACKING compared to the 1st 1.
I was also frustrated at the silo, but mainly because they could easily shovel the corn to one side and use it as a ramp. No popcorn needed. Also Mrs Tweedy falling into the grinder on screen horrified me. I thought we were seeing some Kingsman 2 stuff and that she would end up nuggets that Sir Eats A Lot would taste. They gave me (and any kids watching) all of the shock of it without the consequences, which sadly is a capitalistic sign of the movie being set up for a series of chicken saving adventures to preserve Tweedy as a villain.
"which sadly is a capitalistic sign of the movie being set up for a series of chicken saving adventures to preserve Tweedy as a villain.” Oh sweetie...you need to stop being terminally online and touch grass Just Maybe the reason tweety was not horrifically mangled was because even the first film didn’t kill her despite having her half drowned and blown up in a huge gravy pressure cooker, then crushed by a literal falling barn door... because the film is not saw.
Both my husband and I noticed a scene or two where there was a weird cut. Like in the ending Mrs Tweedy is still at the factory and then a second later she is on top of a moving vehicle
Bro this video attracted a lot of greasy basement dwelling anti-SJWs here. Like seriously it’s just a video about a guy reviewing a movie about some goofy talking chickens who get into mischief, why do people have to rant about wokeness at every opportunity.
All the security for the factory makes sense Because mrs tweety now knows thst chickens can organize and revolt So all the security is to stop a repeat of the tweety farm escape.
I’ve been eating for this video! I had a lot of feelings about this movie that I just couldn’t quite place but what pig said about just making the small town aspect and character writing being stronger summed it all up perfectly. I agree that the movie was good but not as strong as the original and good in its own way separately from the original. I also think it’s kinda bs to hire someone else for the role of Ginger so no one would notice why they didn’t bring back Mel Gibson. If anything people would’ve been supportive of the studio not straight up ignoring what he’s done and not trying to cover it up by replacing someone his original costar who was perfectly fine for the role. The excuse that she sounded “too old” was completely bs not only because the age gap was only 4 YEARS, but because an older voice would’ve shown how much time had passed and emphasized her new role as a parent. Besides Ginger just ended up sounding older with Thandiwe Newton anyway!
I was kinda disappointed that Mrs. Tweedy didn't die when she was fried. I was shocked when she fell to the tube and exited fully fried because it surpassed my expectations on what would happen. I was expecting the fall, but not the actual scene of her falling with her axe. I thought that was extremely dark and risky....until she started chasing the main characters. (Sorry, apparently I wanted too much horror in a family movie, hahaha, now that I think about it, that would have been toooooo far)
Kind of hard for me to take the claim that they didn’t want her for being too old (which was something the voice actress stated, not the company) seriously when Miranda Richardson (the original voice of Mrs tweety) who came back as the same role, is 66 years old And Fowler is voiced by David Bradley whose 84 years old Bunty was re-voiced by Imelda Staunton from the first movie and she’s 68 years old and Babs was re-voiced by Jane Horrocks, whose 60 years old
Well I think the mission impossible theme for the 2nd movie. Is cuz the Aardman studios have always wanted to make a ridiculous claymation movie like that. That's why the wrong trousers is the way it is. Lol just something I remember hearing from watching stuff on the studio and like special features on the movies. I'm a bigger fan of Wallace and grommet and chicken run not that much. But the 2nd looks fun, gonna give it a watch. :)
It just didn't feel like chicken run to me. The first movie seemed like it took place in the '50s and the second one seemed like it took place in modern day. The first one had a weird concentration camp/ braveheart vibe and the second one just seemed like a children's movie.
@@cryptidmilk4074 another guy who went to the same school brought it up randomly. I never knew him back in the day but always thought he looked really familiar.
On one thought, it’s may have been an unnecessary sequel because there have Ben speculation having a continuation both in and out of Aardman. On the other hand, it’s is a decent film that still on point over the top claymation that we know and love. But yeah, we all asked how did Mrs. Tweedy survive the falling door from the first. Well I ask for this movie on WHAT is she and HOW did she even survive that fall!?!?
