In March 2020, COVID-19 sweeps India. The government orders 1.5 million schools to switch to remote lessons. Nearly 3 million school children receive little or no in-person teaching for over 18 months.
It is one of the longest school closures in the world. It fuels an unprecedented education crisis.
Digital divides widen, learning outcomes plummet, children are distressed and many students are in danger of dropping out.
As schools re-open and students return to classrooms they struggle to perform. What has school closures cost India’s next generation?

I want to correct something: The Phillipines is the Asia country with the longest school closing! Still now face to face classes are not possible because of covid! Why I know that? My boyfriend is Filipino and teacher in the Philippines.

stop pretending like you know based on your boyfriend unique exemple. i'm a teacher as well in philipines, and a lot of elementary classes, high school and college classes has resumed face to face by now, many even last year. and online classes are common and intensive. education never took a pause in our country unlike many others, cept for a few months in 2020.

@@vernadithsedillo5126 It is not an unique example! I have other Filipino friends there in other provinces as well. All and really all of them have still online classes! Ask before you judge me! You act totally unpolite! Maybe your school is an absolute exception. Sorsogon has no face to face classes and in Pangasinan where my best friend studies business administration too! He now had to study 2 years on the cellphone! Imagine that. It's nice what you write, but it only applies to a small percentage. Of course, education has never stopped in the Philippines, but not everyone has internet access. Over 50% are starving in your country! Please open your eyes, you must belong to the upper class there. Unfortunately, I experience the true circumstances every day and see how my Filipino friends suffer! Be it from hunger, lack of access to the internet, let alone have a pc or a mobile phone! My friends who were able to study had participated in the scholarship program. That is a very good, the government takes over the tuition fees but unfortunately does not pay anything for other expenses such as school books, PC or tablet for homeschooling and now my best friend Rey is doing his OJT. Well, it does take place at all, but he has to pay for it himself despite the scholarship. What's that po? So please don't tell me anything or assume that I have no idea. Reality shows a different picture. Thank you.

COVID theater: A Johns Hopkins University meta-analysis of several studies in February found that lockdowns during the first COVID-19 wave in the spring of 2020 only reduced COVID-19 mortality by .2% in the U.S. and Europe. "While this meta-analysis concludes that lockdowns have had little to no public health effects, they have imposed enormous economic and social costs where they have been adopted," the researchers wrote. "In consequence, lockdown policies are ill-founded and should be rejected as a pandemic policy instrument."

@@siddharthbajiyaAFTER covid...before it was higher (around 3)...also with 'only 2': Nobody should produce kids they can't even sustain. Regardless of the country. And there's one more thing you need to see: Some people are smart enough to not have children and ruin their lives with the 'joys of parenthood', others may have one...and on the other side of the equation you have folks who have FIVE they can't feed or educate. That is absolutely stupid.
