Video Editor: "During guitar solo we'll focus on drums. During keyboard solo we'll focus on bass player. During cool bass part we'll focus on drums again" RIP Alexi. I'm glad I got to see COB live multiple times.
INDEED his Melodies are ARE AND THEY WILL LIVE IN OUR HEARTS AND MIND FOR EVER... I Carved 'COB' on my left Arm when I first heard Bed of Razors... the Mark is still somewhat visible.. (wasn't deep enough, and much of it disappeared in these 17 years).
This is him in his falling health and still put on a hell of a show. Those vocals with lead guitars wooh. Man was a legend of the game. Rest in Peace Mr. Laiho \m/
This is what I keep saying, the guy had health issues but kicked ass until he died, even on stage. "Wow cob sucked in their later years" fuck you. Go do what he did
Not to be cruel, but his failing health was due to his own lifestyle. This is yet another lesson to look after ourselves and not abuse our bodies. RIP Alexi.
@@stubones maybe some people want to live to 90 years old and live a t total, non drinking / smoking life and healthy diet etc and post pointless comments on youtube. But this man lived his life creating excellent music and he LIVED longer than most people will. He's a legend and it was his choice to drink so much alcohol, not anyone else's business. In all honesty I'm surprised he survived to 41... His legacy will live on forever
I saw Bodom about 5 months before this show, and he actually looks a thousand times better in this video than he did when I saw him live. I gasped when he walked out on stage because he looked like skin and bones. He hardly moved around the stage, didn't headbang, and just looked weak and paper white. I saw this video when it came out and it made me optimistic that he had gotten better. It really sucks that he's gone.
@@eightyblox6829 I heard a lot of these comments. And as a musician and guitar player too, when I saw them giving relentless reckless forever, I just could hear Lexi from 3 m distance, and Jesus, it. was fuckin perfect tho. At the time comments about his playability were raining.. but excellent performance I could witness!
SETLIST: 00:15 - Are You Dead Yet? 04:15 - Under Grass and Clover 08:08 - In Your Face 13:44 - Platitudes and Barren Words 18:04 - Angels Don't Kill 24:10 - This Road 28:30 - Hate Me! 33:12 - Downfall 39:10 - Hate Crew Deathroll I really mis COBHC.
Honestly... It was time. Let's be honest, they sound like shit on here. And I've loved that band for almost twenty years now. Compare their rendition of downfall with tuska 2003 or seoul 2001.
I never felt sadder when someone from the world of music died. Like a part of me died. When I was very young COB changed the world of music for me and they influenced it the most of all. Every album is perfect and special, he put his soul into every song and note he played. But unfortunately the disease is stronger and he doesn't ask for years .... Those 10 albums will remain a great history and will be listened to forever. Thank you for everything Alexi, I'll see you one day on the other side.
@@ShiD-FARD Under Glass and clover.... Great alexi, writing and singing from heart... he was real, unique and so talented. Calling a Hymn for his near death. Sad but always remember the Alexi so powerfull, charismatic and beatiful person, artist and... never forgetted
You can hear him. Most of the time his guitar is panned hard left so just remove your right headphone/earphone/speaker.. Daniel is definitely a lot louder in the stereo mix but he's a legendary guitarist too!
Alexi was one of the best guitarists of our lifetime. Even if you “hate “ them Go back and listen to just Lexi’s solos he was truly one of a kinda. Always different always classical inspired always fucking amazing
Why would anyone "hate" them? It's like sex and pizza. Well. I Guess if somone didnt like metal. As a metal fan I find COB and Alexi irresistible. Rest in peace metal hero, say hi to Dime and Randy, and now Eddie and Leslie. Shit time for hard rock and metal fans.
I couldn't agree more man. I just know people in my personal life that don't give things a chance. Shame with metal cause some people miss out on so much talent.
I am metal fan and I hate his music. Years ago i deliberatly crushed my own Hatebreeder casette cause I couldn't stand all this crappy solos. cheers mate
Imo the most underrated aspect about Alexi and bodom as a whole was their ability to make ear pleasing music, even if it some call it cheesy they still went there and made sick music doing it that appealed and reached a bunch of kids like me and made us wanna shred on guitar and sing in a band. RIP
How bout the fuckin vocals?? Nobody says a god damn thing about that. Who doesnt love all the "fucks" and grunts and "yow yows" and the general screaming and just really badass vocals in general.
After decades of devotion to mostly mainstream rock I'm just now getting into these hardcore European metal bands and holy shit - these guys were unbelievable. Lots of catching up to do. Sucks because I'm instantly fascinated with the frontman's performance only to find out he died. Very sad, but he obviously made his mark and then some. RIP, bro.....if watching a video of you for the first time blew me away your longtime fans must be devastated.
Got that right. Still a little, and honestly just started listening to them because of an article that claimed he sh*t talked Dream Theater (he didn't actually, all he said was basically they don't seem to get into the atmosphere and he'd (Alexi) would rather miss a note, or change a song from the album version, than not move around on stage) , was instantly impressed and the live shows were something else Can kind of see it at 11:48 or 11:47 when his skips a sweep and just stares out, he could've done it exactly like the track, but live the silence had a big impact on the song
Children of Bodom is a great gateway into (melodic) metal, see also: Gamma Ray, Dream Theater, Sonata Arctica. Must-watch if you like CoB: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jjkZymZFL84.html
@@DuffyLONER64 Damn, you´ve got a lot of catching up to do. I´ve been listening to CoB for almost 14 years now, I´ve grown up with this music and CoB are one of the main reasons I startedplaying the guitar. If you wanna see some (drunk) fun times with the boys look for "Trashed and lost in Helsinki": basically CoB gettin drunk and doing funny and dumb stuff.
Same here. I have had the entire discography playing on repeat for the last 4 months straight. Its absolutely amazing and i kick myself for not taking the time to dive into it before hand. Fortunately i was able to see CoB live in 2008 at the gigantour with megadeth. Sucks that i really dont remember any of it and didnt know any of the songs at the time. I was also only 12 and just there for megadeth lol. One thing i do remember is alexis presence on stage was just hard as fuck the entire time. Also mid show they went into the opening of Dont stop believing by Journey and alexi had an entire arena of metalheads singing along to it. It was cool as fuck and im actually shedding a tear just thinking back and writing about it lol RIP alexi
not being able to see children of bodom with alexi in the band in person would be the biggest regret in my life now.. they came to mainland china only twice and i missed them both...i could have gone to finland for study but my parents didn't allow me to. poor me. i miss him so much.
don't be so sad... i'm finnish and i didn't see them either even though i had plenty of time 😭 my biggest regret too. just insane i skipped this concert thinking there'll be others.. i'm seriously so mad at myself 😡😂 i was going to go see them and f-king cancelled just before 😭😭 imsostupidimsostupid imsostupidimsostupidimsostupidimsostupidimsostupid
Man, the skills it take to be able to play guitar like and sing. Just mind blowing. I remember learning how to hit the base drum independent of the snare and it felt like my mind was literally undoing a knot, lol. Can't imagine the mental process with singing/playing guitar at that level. Insanely impressive.
My first metal concert was Children of Bodom with my now husband. It was our first date together. I’ve been listening to them since I was 14 and I’m 31 now. You will truly be missed Alexi! Definitely going to keep your music alive in our household with our kids 🤘🏻🤘🏻Rip 🙏🏻
Martin Wilhelmi Yeah, it does suck but don't be sad it's over, be happy it happened. At least it happened. CoB, Van Halen actually happened and made the best of history. Those are the times we should remember during this time.
You are the reason why I've always wanted to have a Jackson V guitar, which I finally bought in 2007. Your image is what I have always imitated. It's just too sad that we can't escape death's grasp even when it takes the most wonderful, talented, driven and inspirational people of our lives. You'll live forever in our hearts, play persistently in our minds, and resonate endlessly in our ears. Rest in peace, Alex "Wildchild" Laiho. 🖤
I saw COB twice. Once in 2005 w/Nevermore in Buffalo. Once on Mayhem. Halo of Blood tour. Hard to believe Alexi is gone. So young. Hopefully he can find peace.
My childhood favourite. These guys will always be close to my heart. Sad to see it ended like it did, but if there's no passion anymore then I guess it's time to move on in life.
@UK MGTOW Maiden doesn't have to tour that much anymore to keep making the money to provide for their families. And they deserve that. But COB didn't make that much anymore after the AYDY era.
I never heard of him until 10 minutes ago. My RU-vid homepage recommended to watch a live shred demo of his songs and just tore it up, magical playing i was like WOW. Then i scrolled to the comments and people were giving condolences.
Can't believe he passed away. So much talented artist like him deserves a long life. Grew up with this songs, it means so much for me, and knowing that I will never see him on a stage ever it's devastating. Rest in peace, one of the truly best guitars and band leaders.
You died so young, tragic passing, shocked us all. We love you man, thank you for sharing your gift with us. Hope your rocking with Hendrix and the rest of the crew. Gone, but not forgotten. Your friend, Your fan ~ Laurynn . RIP
@@supernatural9r406 Jimmy Hendrix was honestly not that talented but daring and above all odds. Alexi would smoke Jimmy any day. All day. Everyday. And this isnt even close to my favorite music nor my favorite band by any means.
So good! Pouring out what’s left of his soul into it. I always was aware of COB but after his passing listening and watching more and it’s criminal how underrated Alexi was, tearing it up and singing too. What a badass! Peace shredder, rest well.
as soon as i know he was dead i was just put all my CD collection of Children of Bodom for 3 days in the row and listening it,i was luky i see all his show in montreal since 1998
I was lucky to be here at the last UK performance and what an honour it's was , bloodstock is awesome , rest in peace Alexi you will always be a major part of my daily playlist
I feel frustrated when they came to my hometown a couple of years ago and I couldn't go. I will miss them so much. Your music saved me from my teenage agony. Thank you COBHC.
Brings tears to my eyes to see this. Tears of joy, to hear these songs and that amazing guitar....but same time tears of sorrow, to know that we won't never ever hear anything like this
Rip brother, way too young just like i lost my dad due to illness. For everybody enjoy life.. every day. Time is important not the most cash in the world can buy time, remember that !
"My pain is constant and sharp and I do not hope for a better world for anyone, in fact I want my pain to be inflicted on others." ...this gave me goosebumps after hearing the news. RIP Alexi.
I'm so glad I was there that day, it was the last time I've seen them live! Rest In Power Alexi....you will be missed but never forgotten!!! Your music lives on forever! You guys were one of the biggest inspirations for our band!
Alexi was so good and it's nice to see his playing improve live and he went at his best even though he was struggling. R.i.p my metal brother, I still miss you, can't believe it has almost been a year 🤯😔
I also wanted to add how amazing Daniel Freyberg's performance was here. His tone is absolutely killer and really cuts deep through the entire show. I've noticed in watching COB concert footage that the second guitarists seem to be louder than Alexi in the mix and wasn't sure if the band did that intentionally or if it's just coincidence, but either way it sounds fantastic - so heavy! Fuck I wish this band were still around!
It's really obvious here that Alexis guitar is the lowest of all instrument on the stage. Can't be unintentional. The backup vocals seem higher then the main even.
100 percent Daniel HAD to be louder in the mix. Alexi was one of the best guitarists in the world but he was very ill. Alexis Vox sound brilliant but at this point unfortunately Daniel and Janne were the main sound. Although it's hard panned left and right most of the time so you can choose to listen to AL or DF
P.s. everyone think about his commitment to performing. Newer songs like "this road" are a bloody nightmare to play. And they're playing it faster than the record!
Those natural harmonics in the riff are doable by any proficient guitarist but not whilst they're very ill on stage in front if a large audience. Daniel really helped Alexi keep COB going for the last bit of their lifespan. It's tragic we've lost such a legend. I'll stop now xx
Братцы, это потеря, я когда узнал не поверил. Самое удивительное в том, что все металлисты сразу всплочаюся вместе и передают не новости а записи с лайвов!!!!!!!
When I was young, Follow The Reaper played everywhere I went and got me through so much. I'll never forget those times nor you, Alexi.. RIP... Your legend will live forever in metal!!!!!!!!!!!
God this brings back so many memories of music festivals passed! I am the luckiest person alive to have seen him play live several times before he passed! RIP Alexi!
An unbelievable group of musicians. I wanted to watch this again upon hearing about the tragic passing of Alexi Laiho. I remember picking up a copy of something wild a few years and was shocked. I loved the story of the band and was interested by the happenings of Bodom. Every aspect of the band worked and Laiho was the forefront of that. R.I.P
