Ok I know someone’s gonna make me sound really stupid when I say this but literally why is a catapult a good idea? Like it obviously works pretty good but honestly it seems like flywheel would be faster and have a more adjustable range. Of course it can shoot 3 at once, but if you miss with that, then it’s more likely for all 3 to miss. Plus they can’t shoot across the field with 3 of them so I was just wondering if there’s any other benefits to a catapult that I’m not seeing.
Catapults by nature are gentler than flywheels on launching disks, so combined with close range and pancake flipping disks it allows for goals to be filled more.
1. Just like in TP, far range shooting is not needed in this game to be successful. Most teams do far are focusing on closer range shots because its easier to aim that way. Plus it makes it easier to clear out your opponent’s low goal. 2. Catapults are extremely good at stuffing goals with discs. Their shots are super soft and high so unless they are defended upon, they have a low chance of not being scored. 3. Catapults lend themselves to a smaller robot design overall, which makes it more maneuverable and lightweight. 4. They are much easier to get working & tune than a flywheel. 5. They don’t require any complicated velocity controllers to work. 6. Less likely to damage motors because there is no risk of motor backlash.
@@connorm_3605 And they can make a 6m drive work super easily because realistically you only need one motor to crank the catapult back and the piston the release the tension
Thanks for the shoutout! China leaks are always OP! Here are some match notes: The red alliance is a cata flywheel combo consisting of 13800Y & 9698B. Y is from IFT Robotics Club, a subsidiary of Ruizhi Wengfeng Edu. Tech. Co. 9689B is part of the Create Future Robotics org out of Fuzhou. Their sister team 7890E, won APAC Worlds in CU & was finalists in TiP. The blue alliance is also a flywheel cata combo, but neither of the teams are from any well known orgs. IFT only does single shots in auton because (at the moment) it’s the only way they can make cross-court shots. 9689B opts for rapid fire single shots instead of triple shots because their partner can already do triple shots (single shots allow for better aligning & goal stuffing when combo’d with triple shots). The red alliance went on to sweep the elimination bracket and win the finals, securing them a World Qualification spot.
A lot of us China kids are really curious as to who you actually are lmao. Do you have a team number? Or are you someone who has just made it their job to post China leaks? No hate though, just curious
@@ghostintheknl583 just an admirer looking in :) (But in all seriousness I’m a VRC alumni who is planning on competing in VEXU this school year. I started posting China leaks to boost their audience here in the US/Canada since most competitors here are completely unaware of the VRC scene back in China. Kind of similar to what YangJack does with his RU-vid reposting on B-Site lol.)
@@connorm_3605 Oh that's cool! The MS division is going crazy this year and most of the HS kids in China have retired/graduated. I just moved up to the HS division, so I should have an ok chance this season.
@@ghostintheknl583 Nice! If China goes to the World Championship this season in Texas you guys are winning it for sure! I can’t wait to see you guys dominate!
