The Indian car market has largely been dominated by the top 4 manufacturers, with the competition mainly shuffling between Indian, Japanese and Korean car brands. However, Chinese car brands are likely to expand their footprint in India with brands like BYD and MG already making some inroads. While Chinese car brands don't have a set reputation in India just yet, they have been expanding their footprint globally quickly and have managed to carve a strong position for themselves particularly in the electric car space. This plays a vital role in their expansion as they're at the forefront of electrification globally and Indian car manufacturers too are shifting their focus to battery electric vehicles as they expand their business within India and overseas. In this video, we discuss the opportunity at hand and the important challenges that have to be addressed as Indian brands take on global ambitions.

Chinese and Korean OEMs are a wake up call to Indian OEMs that their flashy over styled gimmicky designs will not hide their vehicles' mediocre underpinnings. The 'Jugaad' mentality has to stop before it's too late. Remember, the top car company is a Japanese one who has made it by selling crude, cheap, mediocre and borderline deadly vehicles that were outdated in their home country. And it's at the top because as a customer, our expectations of quality regarding products and services are far below the rest of the world.

And if govt wins, they don’t really care much if their profits are coming from Indian brands or Chinese brands. Remember govt gets up to 70%-100% per car (mostly 15 lakh above cars). Chinese car market is so so mature that they have every possible combination of engines and gearboxes. They are really good with economics of cars. They will take over Indian market just like smartphones market. MG Astor, MG Cyberster sells at half the price in China. Toyota Camry is popular in china, this sells at 1/3rd price in china compared to India. More cars, more buyers, who wins, the govt. 100% profit to our govt without doing any thing.
