This Chinese five spice old fashioned is one of my favorite fall cocktails and it's perfect for Thanksgiving day. Pumpkin spice gets all the love this time of year but this spice blend packs a way better flavor profile and some actual spice to boot. It's simply divine the way it lends itself to elevating spiced rum and a sumptuous pecan infused bourbon.
One thing I would note about this recipe is my szechuan flavors did not come through as strong as I would've liked so I would recommend adding more and making sure their aromas come off the pan when toasting to make sure they're releasing all of those flavors. Just make sure not to burn them!
