To those asking, I have no idea how long these keep in the fridge. They keep forever in the freezer. But, if you're making 12 at a time, I don't think shelf-life will be an issue!
For all you calorie counters such as my self, I made this and added honey roasted almonds, pecans and a few macadamia nuts, and put this into a 9x9 pan totaled 1,515 calories for the whole pan. Now. Cut that into 6 large bars? That's just about 250 calories per bar. Not too shabby.
Instead of using coconut to combine the ingredient, You can use tahini (sesame past). Tahini and dates go very well together. In middle east, tahini is not only used in savoury dishes, but is used in sweet dishes. One simple recipe, you can stuff the dates with any type of nuts (ground or whole nuts) spread some tahini one top, and you'll have an easy and healthy recipe.
The burning question is who was the person that tasted the beaver ____ and decided it would be a great substitute for real vanilla and what planet did he come from? Why did he taste it? How did he get anyone else to believe him? Would anyone in their right mind buy imitation vanilla if they really knew? Inquiring minds need to know.
+Jacqueline Pham Are you 12 years old? Where exactly was he hating? He stated a fact, which is a true one. This generation is full of insecure self-absorbed people who were raised in a bubble. God forbid, one has an opinion different than theirs...... If you do not like the freedom of speech, go to Cuba!
Not really healthy actually with all the sugars. Beside health is not what this channel is about, its good food. You are wondering into a sex shop expecting to find children toys.
This is great! I've been making these for years! There are also so many variations you can come up with using this. My favorite flavor was using Mexican vanilla extract, with cocoa powder, fresh toasted peanuts, coconut oil, and chopped up Mexican cacao nibs. To enhanced the chocolate I skip the salt and the liquid I add a splash of balsamic vinegar and dark soy sauce... it really does something!
I don't comment often on youtube but I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate this video. I actually am vegan since about a year or so. I still watch your videos because I like your skills and your wit. The part about the hybrids in the parking lot made me giggle. Thanks for this recipe and including something vegan :) Not all of us are preachy and we very much enjoy some good food just as everyone else.
hello chef John. I was wondering if you had any recipes for easy to swollow foods. I suffer from ALS and looking for a nice creamy savory recipe. I watch all of your videos and would love to see if you could come up with a meal that I didn't have to chew very much. Thank you for all the delicious meals I can cook for my family.
Why on earth wouldn't you use the artificial vanilla? It's just oak extract. If you like whiskey or brandy or aged tequilla or rum or chardonay (or any number of oaked wines) you are getting the same thing.
I just made these. They're pretty good for health food, but after eating one, I just wanted to eat a real brownie. ☹️ If you try it though, use coconut oil. It's worth it.
Can you do a high-protein bar Chef John? I was going to try your recipe and simply substitute some protein powder in place of the cocoa, since this isn't a baked product.
Hi Chef John, do you know Turkish Halwa ? I found a way to do it, but I was wondering if you could do your own spin on it. Thanks and great video as always :)
i make something like this only i put 151proof rum, frangelica, toasted hazelnuts, mini chocolate chips, shape them into balls and roll them in super fine hazelnut ground coffee.
Chef, your delivery and tone of voice are perfect for making me want to cook. You put me at ease. I've made a few of your recipes and have had great success. These are next.
Raw foodists argue that toasting/cooking destroys amino acids that are heat sensitive, such as tryptophan. And cooking possibly degrades other qualities of the food.
Off topic. Working in cardiac surgery OR, it always cracking me up, whenever we have a muslim patient, scheduled for valve replacement(s). And they're opting for biological ones. Go figure :D
+mirogster either the patient doesn't know there is an alternative valve replacement or the there is no option and just with the biological one, it is okay for muslims to use the biological ones even if its origin is from the pig. This is consider as live saving and different from eating or consuming carelessly. This is the same as you take medication which can be toxic for everyone but it improve the patient health.
I think you can also make Protein Bars pretty similar to this. I made a couple a few years ago from another channel called Scooby something. (a guy without a shirt on talking lol) they turned out pretty nice as well and was pretty easy to do.
thanks you so much i love your channel you're cooking style is fun and informative I've been a viewer for years now. and I just wanted to say you doing and awesome job inspiring new chefs like myself.
I seriously don't know why people are hating on Chef John for his voice. So what he raises his voice at the end of his sentences? You don't come here to judge him on his voice! People come here for his food, his humor, and his personality. If you simply just come here to judge him on everything, then just piss off! Chef John is perfect the way he is, and he does not need people hating on his voice.
CJ i read that dutch-processed [ie treated with alkali] cocoa actually removes much of the flavonoids and antioxidants, so ive been trying to only buy high quality cocoa that is NOT dutch or treated with alkali...
dates r not common at all where I live and I thought of dried apricots! they'r pretty sticky and sweet! or maybe u can try dried fig! just a suggestion ;) hope these help!
You know, this was meant to be a joke about how I'm single af but look at these lovely helpful suggestions - I may actually be obliged to go out and buy real dates now. Thanks :3
I am definitely making those this weekend, they are exactly what I've been looking for! by the way there is something very soothing and hypnotic about your voice
Thanks Chef! Another great video. On a side note, I ordered some SFQ BBQ sauce for summer pulled pork activities. I am sure it will be outstanding! Cheers!
he's simply sumplimenting the sugar with dates. that's like saying "omg no sugar so good!" while he just adds a bit of honey instead of dates. you feel me?
+Boxs sugar from dates is healthier than processed cane sugar, though. i wouldn't be afraid to eat these if i were diabetic, i would just eat them in very small portions. dates offer a lot of benefits like more potassium than bananas per oz.
I just made these with my mom, so good!! The only thing was, we have a smaller food processor so the recipe itself was too big for it. The recipe is a good amount, so next time we'll split the ingredients and do two small batches so it gets mixed easier.
I love dates so much. medjool are really the only good ones. the dates in the dried fruit aisle are just not good. they're not moist and have very little flesh.
can I suggest you something can you go eat at texas road house ask for 16oz ribe eye medium fell the taste and teach us how to cook the same exact taste pls thank you
To late ------------ I know -----------Castoreum is the exudate from the castor sacs of the mature North American Beaver is where artificial raspberry, vanilla or strawberry flavor comes from,
you can find the dates at middle eastern grocery stores or fruit markets. I live in Detroit, We have a lot of those here. I always see the medjool dates at these places.
increďble. simply incredible. and none of that added sucre either. another great video Chef John, you inspire a kitchen disaster to take a chance; perhaps create a few edible mistakes 😁
First I always use pure vanilla extract but what is the imitation stuff made of? You said we wouldn't want to know but, dang it, you've piqued my curiosity.
Your Cashews aren't raw either... there steamed... to remove the poison urushiol from them. And your Almonds were heat treated before you toasted them to remove the natural cyanide within them....
Nooooo John, you've been brainwashed by the group that thinks coconut oil is good for you... It is not it's actually way too high in saturated fats,it doesn't give you any vitamins and is just crap for ingesting it. The only reason it's portrayed as healthy is because it doesn't contain cholesterol. I always substitute it for peanut oil, which does have a good balance between saturated (should be less than 1/3 of non-saturated) and non-saturated fats. Coconut oil is actually much higher (87g/100g product) in saturated fat compared to butter(51g/100g), which makes that since I'm not actually worried about my cholesterol I'd rather use butter than coconut oil, since this does give me vitamins and minerals.
