Sir, you are very best guitar teacher which I found online. You actually make learning guitar easy. I stay in India and Guitar in India is alien (unfamiliar Instrument) Instrument very difficult to find any good guitar teacher here.

Ok,, this is one of the countless reasons why Steve is the Shit! He actually cares about people who want to learn guitar and music. There are WAY too many "teachers" out there that do say" IT'S my way or you'll suck forever" I've had my share. Steve assures you it's possible and likely, that you will excell if you STAY POSITIVE AND PRACTICE HARD. Determination pays off folks, but you have to want it with all your halt and soul!! Rock on Stev-O!!

A good teacher respects his student & just simply listens to them. One should teach the way they would like to be taught, and help their student reach their goals, whatever they may be. Steve your teaching style really shows you care about your students welfare, thanks!

that's exactly why I learn from you steve, you are the right teacher for me, I have learnt sooooo much from you, for me personally you explain perfectly and the main thing is that you always say "do whats right for you" and thats how I've progressed. thank you, thank you so very much for giving me the confidence. I play your lessons every day without fail and I even took my guitar on holiday lol.

I give up on trying to play guitar, I have problems with hands, I have aurthitis and after playing for a month or so they hurt and cant move my fingers to do solos. I can do chords and strum if I only play 2 or 3 times a week. I love playing but my hands just wont let me do it any more - I hate getting old! If I was not in this condition I would love to order his lessons

Very nicely put sir. I have a question. I am learning guitar for over a year now. I never had a personal teacher because I Iive in a semi urban place of India where there are no guitar instructors. So i started learning from your videos and some other good instructional videos and experimenting while practicing and I try to learn songs by listening. I also don`t get anyone to jam with. Or to play for someone as people hate heavy metal, rock or blues here. I never get a feedback. Do you think sir this is hampering my learning process?

Great video ! I fall under the disability category. Both mental ADHA,TBI and Physical. Including Broken wrist at the beginning of playing 15,16. To Head trauma ( Learn to read write walk count money ect...) and amputated half my thumb (defective table saw) on fretting hand 5 years ago. Now I'm taken Master class and am older still trying. I have to admit I sometimes wonder why. It seems every time I start getting really good something happens. Talk about a test of my love and desire to want to play. Peace

Steve, have you had a perspective student that you felt would be better off finding someone other than yourself to learn from? If so, how did you handle that situation?
@stinemusiclessons
@stinemusiclessons 6 лет назад
Sure! If I have had students in the past that wanted to study more classical or jazz styles, for example, I have friends, both locally and online, that can do a much better job that me, so I am more than happy to send a student to them! It's about YOU far more than it's about us, so the fit is essential.

This is so awesome just to hear you talk on this. I set out a few years ago to spark my butt back up. I picked up the guitar in the early 80's . Been stumbling, and struggling all along the way, even stopped for a few years to figure out my life since I wasn't going to make it playing guitar. I considered lessons a few times, but every person (2) that wanted to take my money said, "Ok what songs do you want to learn"... I ran. A few short years ago I decided to seek out online lessons, seem like the perfect thing for me and my career, I'm self employed and have very little set schedule . I'm a big Steve Vai fan, and heard Dave Weiner had a teaching site. I checked it out and really enjoyed it, I'm on year 4 and still a monthly subscriber. I really enjoy Dave teachings, his peeve for organization spills onto his site which is soon to be face lifted for the 3rd time I think. Shortly after subscribing, I found Steve Stine, and man.. You know how you can be sitting in church, and the pastor is talking right to you or at least thats the way you feel. I've been following Steve's teaching for over 2 years now, and enjoy every min. I incorporate my time for them both, and enjoy their teaching immensely. I recently attended a guitar camp with Steve Vai in which all the attendees where encouraged to go on stage one at a time and play with Jack Butler..I mean Steve Vai along with his band, and yep Dave Weiner. Nervous? Hell yea, but what I concentrated on is what Steve Stine, and D. Weiner both help me with every time I listen to them. Concentrate on what you can do on guitar and not what you can't! I played tow to tow with Steve Vai for 2 and a half min. and had the time of my life. Afterwards I told Dave Weiner thanks for that was my first time playing on stage, and first in a long time playing with anyone, not to mention over 50 people listening in the same room. So Steve, I hope to say to you in-person some day, Thanks!

I had some one know show me chords, and that was it . many years ago . he said it was the right way to do it. found out later he was just an imbecile. I stopped hanging with him . he thought he was the world's greatest guitar player . all he could do was bar chords , and nothing else. he would get PO'd if I would doy own thing. Thanks Steve for helping me get a head of the game. I learned lot on my own through books and instructional DVDs before there was Android phones and RU-vid.🎸🎛🔊🎶🖖☮🎶

Thanks for the video. So here's my story: months ago i decided that i want to learn guitar and that i have to do it with a teacher. So i found a friend of a friend who teaches guitar and we started. At first everything was alright, we started with some theory and open strings and gradually went to chords. From that point i felt like he didn't listen me and he didn't care about my need to slow down cause i felt that we're going way too fast on basic things or where i want to go. 3 days ago i realized that i don't enjoy study his exercises at all, even if i'm still enjoying to pick up the guitar and do my own things like practice on changing between chords. But the whole situation made me thinking to take a break and I decided that i must not abandon, i must change teacher immediately cause i lost my purpose. I found another teacher who seems to understand what i'm looking for and what i need and tomorrow i'm having my first lesson with him, so wish me good luck.

When i started playing the guitar (electric), i had a teacher who was a classical guitar player. I quit guitar lessons after a year and a half for some reasons. Today, after 7 years when i look back i think he helped me a lot, not so much technically but more like musically. He was an amazing teacher.

You know, I wish I could find a teacher that had a good "cheerleader" spirit when it comes to lessons. Nine times out of ten however, you have the disorganized ditz that has the same old approach...."What song you wanna learn?" And then they half-heartedly throw random shit at you, take your money and say with a yawn, "Come back next week". That is of course provided you don't get the "chest thumper" that wants you to listen to their laws of musical life before they'll give you a second of time to say something. Of COURSE you have to open your eyes, ears & mind if you expect to have anything worth a damn come out of this (in addition to that little stickler called "practice"). But instructors too have to have the wherewithall to actually sit down with an eager student...OF ANY AGE...and ask; ...So tell me about your musical self! What was it that makes you want to unlock this little shaped box of wood & metal? What do you think this is like? What are you hoping will happen with this thing in your lap???.....AND TAKE THE TIME TO ACTUALLY LISTEN!

hey Mr Stine, I dont disagree with you much, because you are more of a musician than most teacher will ever be. When it comes to students, in my experience, I dont think the idea that they can determine where they want would work on becoming "great". For someone serious about becoming a great musician, they should seek out a teacher that fits their style of music. Which means for a jazz major, you might not be the person they want to goto(I dont know how good you are at Jazz, just an example). And then there is another indicator, which is to look at that teachers other beginner students, are they progressing better than other teachers students of the same skill level. Then there is the time dedicated to practice what they are taught, all this has to be a structure created by a great teacher. If that were not true, then most students would be great on their own already. Of course there is the other not so serious students, then I'd say by all means, if their goal is to just treat it as a hobby. Then instructor should work with them and help them achieve those goals. This is the difference between a professional, and a hobbyist, it's the mentality. A serious student needs to be taught how to practice, what to practice and the steps to become more like the professional they inspire to become. If the teacher allows the student to dictate what the student thinks is the right thing to do. Then there is a fundamental error, since the student have no idea of how to become great, thats the sole reason the instructor comes in to play. Without being introduced to the structure of mastering the fundamentals a great teacher/mentor can created, there would be no Tiger Woods, Paul Gilbert, Bill Gates, or Steve Vai. An instructor with a solid method, or one that accommodates all learning styles. it all comes down to the students ability to take instructions without getting in their own way. Especially with all the conflicting instructions the internet has created.
@Timanator
@Timanator 7 лет назад
Stave, you are a bad ass and you know it. I'm just putting down some observations from 15 years of educational experience. I know you are a professional and bite your tong at times. But I also know other instructors that have stood their ground and have set rules that has to be met before moving on to other things. In my experience, those teachers have students that excel the fastest, and have a more solid ground to stand on when they are ready to add other skills in to their belt. If you get a chance to read what Satriani's students have said about him, you can see this theme. He makes them learn thinks that he things are important, and he will tell them to go find other teaches if they do not follow this. Anyways, keep up the good work, and you are my favorite guitar teacher!
