Truly amazing, this really is the best job in the world. I've wanted to be a member of the mounted unit but just never could push myself to be one. It still disappoints me to this day.
the fact that they want inexperienced people isnt too appealing. maybe to this department, but my father works alongside the mounted unit as a motor officer in DC and I've spoken to many of them and visited their stables. they ALL have prior experience and desperately want people that know what they are doing which I personally believe is better to hire people who understand horses over years of experience. (I work with horses for a living) And many units are actually taking in many different breeds of horses, not just drafts, as of late. They also go through extensive tests when looking to purchase horses and some are even imported for more wealthy units. just a couple fun facts I guess👍🏻
mikyla martinez yeah that was a little weird. I worked at the Potomac Horse center in MD for years. We hosted the Park polices unit for training. They where always hunting for riders that would join up. Rick (I forget his last name , but he was in charged) Begged me to join.
That's just this specific officer though. She "prefers" to train people who are more inexperienced as she doesn't have to break bad habits out of them. But, they never said "only" inexperienced people. I'm sure experience is appreciated - especially if you have good riding and horse care habits!!
BEAUTIFUL DRAFTS. I believe that’s the correct spelling, and hopefully breed. Which is amazing because they’re so calm!! Beautiful!! *Wanted to call them another breed.*
I know how big they are! My parents have 3 Belgians they bred 2 of them. They are also retired from the Broward County Sheriff's Office and now live in Ohio. They are awesome & beautiful houses
The rope halter was still on the horse. She was pulling the lead rope attached to the halter. She was being a little rough, which I doubt would have been needed if she was pulling the bit
Sasha Meadowwolf How is it any different to riding another breed of horse, it’s not any harder keeping them shorter on any other breed including clydes.
I can't believe no one has talked about this huge problem I see in the video. THE TAILS ARE CUT IN HALF!!! When you cut a horses tail you are also cutting the bone it is like docking a dog's tail. This is something that should be said, cutting a horses tail is completely unnecessary unless for veterinary purposes.
Tala Aljaber they arnt cutting the actul bone its just the hair and when horses have short tails it dosnt have to be for veterinary purposes a lot of them do it so there tails dont get caught in harnesses when pulling something thats why you see it on draft horses.the tail bone Is up higher it isnt in the whole tail
@@itsallgood4093 yeah I mean we see them do it in the beginning when they are preparing and in the working clothes but what about when patrolling the capital in full CHP uniform, I don't see them getting out there picking up horse shit
Mackenzie Bircher as an equestrian my self I was cringing threw out this vidieo if you want to see pictures of my horse and me fallow me on instagram @willrowland226
I don’t know about you, but if I’m going to be on a massive horse in the city, I’m going to want every single bit of control I can over that horses entire body. Spurs, big bit, whatever I need in case I need to make a quick get away or keep him under control.
Lucia King control over horses doesn’t come from yanking on the horses mouth or jabbing him in the side with spurs. Control comes from the riders seat and voice. The only use for a bit should be to help with direction. And when using a bit, you don’t need a super strong one to “control” the horse.
Wow! I ride horses so this is the job for me totally lol if you don’t believe me I own a horse named shiane she is 13.2 hands and she is 13 years old I would love this job
Ok, wait. I think the host was incorrect. It’s impossible to be paid for this. These officers must be paying them to live like like this! Second, I have been caught “accidentally” speeding on the 101, and now you’re telling me I have to watch for horses now in the rear view.??? I also wonder why these officers are not paid a bonus for a Ultra-high Risk Hazard Pay …. Motorcycles you can control - those beast have a mind of their own and are more befitting for armor suiting and the next Thor Movie. Suggestions: Add RGB led everywhere. Allow officer mood control. Imagine if there is a distraction growing or trying to find a child who doesn’t want to find you. One moment horses is dark, next he is lit up like a unicorn and snaps on his traffic direction stick, calls up an old ice cream truck toon or todays kid pied piper music? Kids would run out from under everywhere. Lol. Homeless person that is manageable but betting mood change. Smile and push a button. You find out he likes the color green and won’t leave. You tell him how about I turn my horse green and let me help. He will say sure - or at least you may have a chance. What would be best for seniors. I’d have a Mr Ed Voice over on my phone and mumble as I walked past seniors. Then in normal voice say - you should here him chastise the criminals!!! So cool to see…. Who’s thought. Horses. CHP Tools I am aware of now as a driver are; light speed laser, radar, planes, copters, rocket bikes, Chargers, Rams, unmarked units and now horses …. Thank you for all the courtesy over the years, and helping me and others.
@@demikars6312 Yes, but it can get expensive to be replacing them all the time. Might be a good idea to try a copper roller bit with that cheeky stinker. XD
