Interesting video guys, thanks for the request! We had some questions about it! Let us know what you think and keep the requests coming, and thanks for all your support and interaction :-)
His voice hasn't changed he is just so talented he can easily and seamlessly slip into almost any genre. Heck he is his own Genre. They should make that an official genre now.
How many singers do you know that can just sit there in a chair, and curl your hair the way Chris did? As far as his voice being different, I think he was just fitting it to the song.
I don’t think his voice changed I just think he can do whatever he wants to do with it. He can sing high and smooth with no rasp then at rasp and deep or the combination of any lol
...same opinion. and don´t forget, he is sitting while singing -this changes the tone of the voice as well. I just can´t stop thinking that he looked like Michael Teutul from American Chopper :D
John Fischer ...took the words right out of my mouth! I definitely agree with you. It’s not that he had a different voice, it wasn’t his song. I’m pretty sure he didn’t want to go too far with that song from its original sound. (Still think Chris did a better job though😆)
This is on a singer/songwriter cruise. It's not The Steeldrivers, just a bunch of songwriters that were booked on the cruise. Al Anderson is the older man. He wrote with Chris quite a bit back in the first years he was in Nashville.
This is an old country song written by Joe South in the early 70s...this was the style of that song...it wasn't that he hadn't found his voice. He sang the hell out of this song!
This was from a Delbert McClinton Sandy Beaches cruise in January 2006. He also sang Sometimes I Cry on that cruise. If you want to hear how it sounded compared to the version you heard, let me know and I'll dig out the link and send it to you. His first record with the Steeldrivers was released in January 2008, so the cruise probably predates his time with them, but I'm not sure. What a monster, hunched over and still belting out the blues like that.
I don’t think he didn’t know his voice back then I think he was fitting it to they type of song. If you listen to different song genre he sings he tends to fit to the type, if it’s county it’s more twangy if it’s bluegrass it’s more bluesy if it’s soul more well you get it. He just has an amazing voice and he knows how to use it to the advantage of the song. Awesome video! ❤️❤️
I’ve been to one of his concerts. He has amazing control over his voice. He knows when to pull back, keep it restrained and smooth, then go full throttle just like in this song. I love that.
I haven’t read any comments about his voice difference is just the style (classic country) in the verse and more of the power soulful thing he does really well that people relate to him now. He is incredible!!
From Delbert McClinton's Sandy Beaches Cruise #12 and the Rockumentary, Chris Stapleton, Leslie Satcher, Big Al Anderson, and Jeff Steele. January 2006.
Chris Stapleton is musical magic! Something about those hills in eastern Kentucky that produce the magic of artists like Chris, Loretta Lynn, Keith Whitley, Ricky Skaggs, Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers, Dwight Yoakam, ( born in Kentucky, lived in Ohio) Patty Loveless and many others. Y’all have a lot of listening to do!
It's funny you said Starbucks. He said he was actually a pizza delivery guy for Pappa John's. He said he still has his name tag to remind him of how far he has come.
I think what I have seen written in the comments of other reactions to this song is that this is taped on a songwriters' cruise. Not quite sure what that is.... but... for what it's worth..
01-06-06! Songwriters cruise. Chris Stapleton & Al Anderson had just written "Fool Me Again" the night before! Chris didn't believe he had a "singing" voice! Crazy kid, he was only around 27 at the time!🔥🤘
He was and is a prolific songwriter before becoming an artist. He got around a 1000 songs at his music publisher. Crazy. His version of it's a man's world is excellent.
Delbert McClinton had a cruise every year called Sandy Beaches. He and other songwriters and performers would be on this cruise. The cruise is still on every year.
This was a songwriters cruise and each of the people on stage are songwriters, and the guy, Anderson, wrote this song with him. This was a long time ago. He has always performed, but he wasn’t well known. He was in a rock band called The Jompson Bros, and then a bluegrass band called The Steeldrivers if I’m not mistaken. He has performed several of his songs with each group and solo. I’ve seen him do “Midnight Train to Memphis” with The Steeldrivers and with his own band on Saturday Night Live with Sturgill Simpson.
This is song writers cruise and he also graduated number in his high school and was going to Vanderbilt when he decided to Pursue music he worked as a songwriter and had to write a song a day before he went in to singing his music
East Kentucky gal loud and proud 💙 Please listen to the Saturday Night Live version of Midnight Train to Memphis which features Sturgill Simpson, another great artist you should give a listen to.
NOT The SteelDrivers! This is just a bunch of songwriters jamming on a cruise in 1-6-2006! Chris was just a kid of 27! (He's only 42 now!) You guys should REALLY check out his new album, Starting Over! It's crazy great! Every single cut! I received both it and his Traveler cd for Christmas! Seeing him in Charlotte, NC in August '21 is definitely on my bucket list! Peace, love and stay safe!🌹💜
Jeffrey Steele is a badass songwriter in Nashville...established dude. Look up the tune "Something In the Water"... Love Chris in this tune....just wow
Most people know the song "Your Man" by Josh Turner from 2005, but not many know it was written by Chris Stapleton. Please react to Chris Stapleton singing "Your Man" from the Bobby Bones Show.
I appreciate your love of Chris Stapleton, you would enjoy his earlier band "JOMPSON BROTHERS ", HE has a studio version of "BARELY ALIVE, and INSIDE YOUR HEAD " both PHENOMENAL. His band JOMPSON BROTHERS was about 10 years ago it was Country Rock
I'm listening to y'all tonight.. Huge Raven's fan.. and looking at that Steelers hat.. lol.. I'm very sad tonight because we just lost the AFC Championship Game.. not a good day for me.
This is an old country song. That's Al Anderson that starts it out. Those are all old school country performers during around jamming. I think it's 2013 or before that. Just wait it comes out!
If he “chris Stapletons” 😂all the way thru the song, then it’s not near as impactful. If he starts out mellow (as the song calls for anyway) and THEN he just kills it thru the chorus etc, then the building of the song (and the pure badassness) just blows you away!! This man knew EXACTLY what he was doing! I saw a post from an old school buddy of his saying Chris use to sing Jodeci on the back of the school bus and just kill it, (IN HIGHSCHOOL!!!!) I’d LOVE to hear that!
I love watching y'all! Try listening to Chris doing Death Row. This isn't the Steel drivers. This is a song writers showcase. The Steeldrivers is a bluegrass band with Chris. They are awesome also!
I honestly think he was not comfortable with letting the soul in him out like he does now in his later albums. There is so much emotion in his sound that it can out shine the musicians and maybe he was holding back that beauty in him. Now he can let it go because he is one with his guitar playing and his singing. It's literally one thing inside of him.
No the guy Jeff Steele is a great singer and was a had a solo career several years ago and now I think he just writes.. The others are wonderful song writers in Nashville and this was really a songwriters event.
But the capper is just right at the end when he raises a glass and addresses the audience with a quick quip. Check out "Aint Livin Long Like This". Tried to send link but no luck. Its really worth it tho!!!!
Midnight train to Memphis featuring sturgill Simpson, two of my favorite artists together. If you haven’t listened to sturgill, react to him also. pan bowl from sturgill will take you back to your childhood
Not sure anyone has said this yet I’m not gonna read all the comments. That lady sitting next to Chris drives me nuts. She does not at all seem affected by his singing at all.
I'm sure I'm annoying, but I promise if you guys check out Chris when he was with the Steeldrivers and his songs, "Angel of The Night" and "If It Hadn't Been For Love" you WILL NOT be disappointed
You are not being annoying, we just have a back log of like 500 request, but we will get to it we love Chris Stapleton and I am from KY so there is that lol
Alright my man! Appreciate the reply. Just wanted to make sure y'all got a chance to check them out. And since y'all seem to be into Chris, I didn't want you to miss out on his early stuff with fantastic harmonies, Melody's, and flawless lyrical writing. -much love
