Happy New Year, everyone! Minor update after my previous post: due to last minute complications with hours at my day job, the original plan of getting five videos/shorts out per week may not be feasible for the time being, but is still something I'm shooting for in the future. I've got a small backlog of content that will come out regularly for the next couple weeks at least, and hopefully the situation at work will be fixed up quickly. If not, we'll keep to about 2-3 videos a week, with highlights from the latest episodes following the day after an episode premiers. Thanks for watching!

I'm shocked to hear you still have a day job. I thought all this long form content over several years was insanely profitable. At least I thought your podcast was one of the most popular ones, besides being the longest. Like I myself watched EFAP Order #66 at least 4 or 5 times all the way through.... 😅 I genuinely thought, you were putting less and less time and effort in your Critique series, because doing these podcasts and gaming videos turned out being WAAY much easier and more profitable..... 🤔🤷‍♂️

Stuckmann put out a video afterwards, in which he begins crying about this love for rlm and blah, blah, blah (haven't actually watched it tbh, but it's easy to find with a quick search). I believe Rich even lowkey addresses it (without naming names) at the start of their next re:view, basically saying some people got upset about it and that they should get over it. "(Insert film name here) is directed by John Doe and stars Ben Dover and Sue Doe Nym. I grew up with John Doe's films, so I was anticipating this film's release with high expectations, and Doe absolutely delivers. The film takes its time to develop the personalities of the protagonists, allowing the audience to connect with them and their conflicts on a deep level. Ben Dover really shines in his film. He surprised me with a stellar performance that really sells the character he's trying to portray. The visual storytelling helps keep the audience engaged and on the edge of their seats from start to finish. John Doe has an ability to employ seamless camera work and breathtaking shot composition that guides the narrative and contributes to the film's atmospheric tone. The musical score and soundtrack of this films also complements the visuals. The underlying message of this film is thought-provoking and leaves you thinking even after the credits roll. This film is an impressive addition to the genre. It excels in nearly every aspect and leaves you asking questions. This video is sponsored by Raid Shadow Legends. Hopefully this review makes me look intelligent while I didn't actually say anything substantial or insightful, because I need your money to fund my inevitably trash movie."

So, on the obnoxious 7 seconds of stock music with a still image. In a good video, you'd have 7 seconds of the best clips, action scenes, a collage of some kind of the things that represent the movie while the music is playing. For me The First Slam Dunk was definitely up there for me. Granted I feel you need to be familiar with the franchise a bit. If you are a fan of the series you'll absolutley enjoy the movie. Its structured like a full length basketball game with intense buzzer beaters, rebounds, crunch time, ball saves and passes and 3 pointers. It's very grounded and the rotoscoping at first felt strange but you get a feel for it when the game kicks off. Throughout the game they give you flashbacks of a character from the team that didnt get a lot of exposure in the anime and so felt very welcoming for old fans. Only gripe is that the main character from the series takes a backseat as a supporting character. Apart from that is was an excellent cinema experience with incredible visuals and heart pounding game moments. Its like watching a Game 7 Finals game but with high schoolers playing. Stuckmann doesn't sell this movie at all. If I had never heard of Slam Dunk and watched this No1 pick I wouldnt have cared. Where is this guy's passion?

The movie is one of the highest earning anime films in Japan and broke box office records. It might not be Dragon Ball levels of global popularity (most animanga aren't) , but the series is an acclaimed, influential classic. What makes the film so interesting is that the manga creator himself is the director, and is able to structure and write this new version of the story in the most efficient, authentic way. The use of 3D CG allows the character designs to be as detailed as the original source without loss to the movement, dynamism and expression. A well made adaptation headed by the original creator is hard to come by, so there's good reason why The First Slam Dunk is kinda monumental

As I got older, I noticed something that has ... made me feel extraordinarily uncomfortable. I used to watch a lot of youtube and pre-youtube content. Nostalgia critic, everyone here should know him, his site, other creators, inspirations and controversy. But I liked him. I had friends who liked him. We, as children, had running inside jokes based on him. And it's not JUST him, there's many more. Yet time passes, and you start seeing stuff that, like I said, is disturbing and uncomfortable. I no longer have ties with those friends. There are hundreds of jokes in my head, that no longer make sense to anyone but me. There are dead and deleted channels, content that has been wiped from the face of the earth, that I half remember, but very fondly. It is pure nostalgia. It is a segment of my life that I can never have back. It's gone, but not necessarily dead. I can still enjoy some ocasional TotalBiscuit. I sometimes check out an old nostalgia critic video. I still watch zero punctuation (and more recently fully rambolic or whatever on second wind) Chris doesn't fill that same hole, because I realized many years ago how vapid he is and I can never look back at him with respect. It's kinda like realizing someone is a cuck. Nothing before matters, that single realization paints them in such a poor light, all you can feel is pitty and literally nothing else. But at some point in time, I guess, he was on that same list. Nostalgia. I watched him because I used to watch him as a child.

Back in the day, even in the same year where he made that Blade Runner video, he at least had some bite to him when he verbally trashed films like Resident Evil: The Final Chapter and The Emoji Movie. Nowadays, there's no useful insights from him whatsoever about any piece of cinema which he talks about, because we just know now that he won't say anything negative about a film when negative insights toward something are how we're able to decipher what makes a film like Godzilla Minus One so good and why a film like The Flash is a colossal pile of crap.

To answer Rags' remark on Star Wars being retitled "A New Hope," George Lucas had always wanted to call the original 1977 film "A New Hope", as an homage to the old film serials of the 1930s, like Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers. There is even a draft dated January, 1976 that has the new hope subtitle on it. However, since the film's budget came from Fox themselves, they insisted that the film was just called Star Wars because they felt it would've confused the audience had it been titled the fourth part of an ongoing story.
@tyrannozilla
@tyrannozilla 9 месяцев назад
Okay, I did look more into it after writing this comment and found a revised fourth draft of the script dated January, 1976 that just called the film "Star Wars: A New Hope" with no Episode IV in there. However, on the commentary track for the DVD of the film, Lucas did state that he wanted to call the film Episode IV, but Fox wouldn't allow it. I know that was said after the fact and I'll have to take it with a grain of salt, but he's still the primary source, so I'll take his word for now. Also, even though it was nearly 20 years before he decided to make the prequels, the earlier drafts of the script to the original film had some of the blueprints of what would become the prequels. Even Palpatine is mentioned in the draft as well as the novelization of the 1977 film. Oh, and one more thing. Just because I was a little misinformed in my last comment, that doesn't mean I'm "mentally ill." I think that was pushing it a bit too far.@awhellnah__

Unpopular opinion here…. I don’t like Chris Stuckman and would not have ever even heard of who he is if it wasn’t through EFAP…. and also I don’t find anything about him entertaining or memorable whatsoever (not even in a bad way so I really don’t get this EFAP obsession with him but whatever you guys are entertaining anyways) and have no idea in the world how he got to be as popular as he is so this definitely isn’t praise for him personally…. however I myself do find value and appreciate videos/ reviews/ lists like this. Sometimes when I want to watch a movie and don’t know what to watch a list like this filled with movies I never heard of and just a blurb about a little of what I can expect is all Im looking for… Im not looking for a 7 hour unbridled rage detailing every aspect in the world about the movie before I even watch it. I can make up my own mind about what I enjoy or not. Also nothing about this comment means I don’t appreciate or even prefer Mauler style long ass detailed reviews…. But those kind of reviews don’t do anything to help me decide if I should watch a movie or not… I find them entertaining just to watch him rip a movie apart that I will never watch or to compare how he feels about a movie compared to how I do if I already saw it. I am only 20 minutes in and down to number 9 on the list and there are already 3 movies I never heard of in my life… had zero idea whatsoever that they existed, and now want to see. And Im glad I don’t have some moron exposition dumping for 15 minutes about what he likes about or intuits his own personal opinion about the themes of the movie. My point is there is a place for stuff like this. Chris Stuckman may still be a miserable uninteresting hack who shouldn’t even be doing this… Fine. I don’t disagree. But to shit on a review when it’s not even really a review but a top end of year list for not going into detail about what he liked about the action in Mission Impossible or the sound design in that Zone of interest movie to me just makes zero sense. Not every single style of review in the world has to be like that.

I’m a pretty big anime fan but Gary had the exact same reaction to me when I first saw the synopsis of Suzume 😂 I need to know how they even write a romance with a premise like that. If nothing else it has to be a step up from the one in Inukai-san’s Dog between a girl and a desk…

"this is a film by so-and-so that involves a chair..." - little platoon - still better than anything modern disney has ever come up with...

John wick 4 is as good as mission impossible dead reckoning which is as good as fallout.

Jeremy at least did a WORST of the year list. He reviewed sound of freedom when most others wouldn’t touch it for fear of pushback (somehow?)… Chris is a HORROR FANATIC….currently processing his own horror debut. Correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t think he put a single horror film in this list. Not Talk To Me, not Cobweb, nothing. Disappointing to me tbh

In/Frame/Out released his honorable mentions video, and while it was a good video, during the section on Barbie, he had this whole rant about how Sound Of Freedom was morally bankrupt and how it "gaslit conservatives into thinking that saying a bad movie was bad was akin to siding with child predators".

@@jeremyusreevu237 I don’t know who that channel is- I can only branch out so far to so many channels lol… I can understand the point at hand- yes it does not make you side with anything just by not liking the film. But the press on sound of freedom already did that dirty work downplaying it from the start just outright calling it a right wing film. But nooooone was critiquing the filmmaking let’s be honest they likely didn’t watch it (not who you mentioned far as I know) and pinned it from the get as some conspiracy nut wet dream. Valid point, but broader picture it was shady seeing a few creators I like get queezy when even the title of the film got mentioned.

@drewgold1 In/Frame/Out is a pretty cool channel. He makes some really in-depth and interesting reviews on various films, but occasionally, he has these spurts of far left talking points. And he's made several jabs at The Critical Drinker.

@@drewgold1 Fair. I personally don't mind it, as he doesn’t do that often, and his content is good enough to make up for it. Plus, anyone who has an unironic appreciation for Freddy Got Fingered has my respect.

Both Shin Godzilla & Godzilla: Minus One are easily the best of the modern Godzilla films if not the best in the entire franchise. To me, Godzilla: Minus One was the best film I’ve seen in 2023 and it was mainly due to the story & characters. You feel sorry for Koichi throughout the film and the people surrounding him are likable & interesting, something which is severely lacking in the Monsterverse films which I honestly do not count as true Godzilla films. It’s also been 7 years since we got another proper Toho Godzilla film since Shin Godzilla which in between that time frame we got from Netflix both the anime film trilogy & the anime streaming series Singular Point, which were both very questionable in quality.

By your own logic, a large majority of Toho Godzilla films are "not true Godzilla films" since many of them don't have interesting characters.

@@ShinKaijuPrince damn even shin Godzilla ( one of the best movies of the kaiju) didn't have any interesting characters at all, that's one of the reasons why minus one is better

@@rodriguezjavier6726 I thought Legendary Godzilla 1 had pretty good characters. Then people complained about not enough Godzilla and too many humans and ran in the exact opposite direction for Godzilla KotM and Kong

@@Dutch_man20 Yeah but I feel like Godzilla -1 shows the hypocrisy of Toei fanboys. They complained Legendary Godzilla was bad because it was too character focused and didn’t show Godzilla enough but this movie is the same. Now if you want to say the characters are better or worse that’s fine but the complaint about Godzilla 2014 was it didn’t have enough Godzilla and too human focused. Godzilla KotM comes out, does the opposite and people complain

Its like he used a text to speech AI to mimic his voice reciting an AI abriged version of a ChatGPT script. And he wants to make films? I wouldnt let him near a throwaway script, much less an actual movie
