In this week's Cache Walk we are in a park in London where there is an ornate stone drinking fountain with links to the Christmas cracker. There is also a link to Lavikite, Norway's National stone. Come with us to see this unusual drinking fountain and it's earthcache..

Fun learning about the history of Christmas Crackers. That fountain is beautiful. Love the questions you had to answer.

Our Christmas dinner would not be the same without the pulling of Christmas Crackers, the wearing of the hat, the surprise of the trinket and the sharing of the punny joke. Thanks for sharing your adventure!

Very interesting information about Tom Smith's Christmas Crackers. I'll keep an eye out for them next Christmas. Thank you. 😊

We find them a little difficult to get here but many other choices.

what a lovely story about the Christmas crackers! Even though I’ve lived in Norway for decades, I’d never heard of Larvikite. Very interesting earthcache indeed 😄 thank you for the cache walk!

Glad you liked it. You were lucky to live in Norway it's definately a place we would like to visit one day if we can. We only found out that our kitchen bench top was larvikite when we looked at the columns on the fountain and the penny dropped 🙂

We remember bringing Christmas crackers to Spain for the holidays. It's something that was (and probably still is) quite unheard of here.

GeoElmo tells us he has not seen them. Apparently they are mainly seen in the UK, Ireland and Commonwealth countries.

I have never had one of those Christmas Crackers. I have had the Toblerone candy before but that was a long time ago.

So do we, it's part of our Christmas tradition too. We have only had the Tom Smith crackers once so we could add them to this video. They are a liitle hard to get here in New Zealand.

We always had Christmas crackers growing up, I think my dad probably sold them.

You can even get T shirts in london with, 'Mind the Gap' on them. It's often the one thing people remember about riding the tube 🙂 No Christmas crackers is that because of your Italian heritage?

@@GeoRick I think it's because I'm an American. I looked up who uses Christmas Crackers: "Christmas crackers are festive table decorations that make a snapping sound when pulled open, and typically contain a small gift, paper hat and a joke. They are part of Christmas celebrations in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Commonwealth countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa."
