Isabel Oakeshott talks to Mike Graham about Birmingham City Council declaring bankruptcy after being hit with a £760m bill to settle equal pay claims.
In a statement declaring itself in financial distress, the local authority said it will "tighten the spend controls already in place and put them in the hands of the Section 151 officer to ensure there is complete grip".
Oakshott says: "The cherry on top of this story is the boss going off on a swanky holiday to New York".

Unless public servants are held accountable , these mismanagement of public funds will repeat again and again. People involved must be punished , with ban to serve public office anymore! Also a police investigation to ensure that there are no misappropriation of public funds. Incapable labour council. Watch out for, someone would next bravely say ,we have no choice but to increase the council taxes.

there's an old adage if you are not qualified for anything and don't want to work but get paid a good salary and get a golden pension join a council where you will be surrounded by lots of people identical to you.

Thurrock council filed 114 last year. Fir decades theyce been siphoning off funds. There needs to be an independent audit of these councils starting from circa 1985

Time to start the people’s courts at the courthouse public building county court and start bring these man and woman who act as public servants before the people to answer why their dereliction of their duties with the people’s money and why these man and woman believe their entitled to such high wages when everyone else gets minimum wages. Like to here their answer whilst taking public money out of the public purse to line their pockets and lifestyle.

You will get services for 12 months every year - 2nd home owners get services for maybe 1 or 2 months. Shouldn't YOU be paying more than them? Shut your own whining.

And If you live in or near those areas that are saturated with second homes then you would understand why they should be charged more . Nice troll btw !

I couldn’t afford two homes but my circumstances meant I couldn’t move into my new home which was 70 miles away as something happened with family and had to pay rent, bills and council tax for two properties out of savings as I wasn’t working! Things are not always that simple actually
