5 years later and this video and the comments are still valid. I was able to pick up the part from AutoZone and install it myself. It took me 45 minutes because I had to replace the part on the right. When I saw it, turned on the heat, I could feel it clicking. The most difficult and time consuming part was unscrewing the top screw and literally laying upside down for a long length of time. Once it was out it was easy and quick to install. No more clicking!!! Oh and you will need a stubby Phillip screw driver. Less than $30 and some time..,problem solved!

This job is not hard to do if you do it in the right order. I just replaced mine 5 mins ago. Took about 30 mins because I had some issues. So here's the easiest way to do it. Remove the glove box. Put a flash light inside the open area to shine up on the part your replacing. Lay the passenger seat all the way down. Now lay upside down in the passenger seat. This is the only way you'll be able to get to the 2 Phillips head screws. One on the bottom and one on top. But before you remove them or unplug anything turn the key on and make sure you have everything turned off on the air/heat. Mine was turned half way and it made my new part not line up. So make sure its turned to off position or itll give you heck. Now unplug the wire harness going to it. Unscrew the two screws using a stubby Phillips screwdriver. Remover and reinstall.
@5slabs
@5slabs 5 лет назад
Thanks so much about the need to turn it off. I couldn't get it to line up but after seeing your note, I was able to line it up. Otherwise, it was a pretty easy job.
@StewBme1
@StewBme1 4 года назад
I used the same positioning before seeing your comment so I guess great minds think alike. I would add: Make sure you have a good fitting stubby Phillips. Start with the bottom screw since you can actually see it and ensure a snug fit. I did the top screw by sitting in the seat facing the dash. After snapping a couple pictures to see where the top screw was in relation to the elastic glovebox strap mechanism, I reached my right hand inside the glovebox with the stubby and felt around with my fingertips and unscrewed. I got much better leverage and though I couldn’t see a thing, it wasn’t difficult to feel my way through it. Regarding installation, I put the bottom screw in first laying upside down as described earlier. For the top screw I returned to sitting in the seat and felt my way around and again it was pretty easy to finish that way.

Stubby Phillips for sure. I thought it was very difficult to remove. I replaced the Philips screw with a1/4 inch head screw and used a sock it wrench. So much easier to put back on. Took me over an hour to get those damn Philip screws out. I it thought it was a tough job to do. But can be done with some persistent effort.

Many thanks, NoNonsenseKnowHow! I just fixed this and saved me a lot of time and money. $17, two-day free delivery for the part from Amazon, and an hour positioning myself in the car to remove the part, and it was out and replaced in about a minute. 2013 200 was bought new in 2012 and this problem mysteriously appeared just after the car was fully paid off . . . Even if this new part doesn't last long, it's not cost prohibitive to replace again in the future - now that I know just where to place my body to get to the location with a screwdriver. Good tip in the comments about making sure that the A/C is off before beginning. Another tip; while you have total access to the cabin air filter, which is staring you right in the face for this job, go ahead and check if it needs replaced and get a fresh one before replacing the glove box.

I just completed this repair but one was to the right of the glove box and the other was on the driver's side. The driver's side actuator is right above the gas pedal which I had to do laying on my back using 1 hand. No problem because it was reachable. I bought Dorman one from Autozone but they only had 1 in stock so I repaired the OEM actuator on the driver's side. Just drill a hole through where that plastic piece broke off and put a stainless steel screw and two nuts through the whole entire mechanism. I also used threadlocker to make sure they'd never back out and good as new!

Just for the hell of it, I tried fixing it myself. 20 minutes to the nearest part supply. I used a 1&1/4 inch drywall screw. Pre-drilled the plastic housing with a 1/16 inch bit so as to not crack it. Before assembling, on the other half of the housing, I lightly ground off the raised portion so the screw head didn't hit it. Use caution to not overtighten the screw as the motor doesn't have much torque. When put back together, use your die grinder or dremel again to cut off the excess screw flush with the housing. Re-installed. Works smooth as silk!

I just had to replace my power window switch on the driver side because my passenger window would only go down not back up. This happened last night in the rain of course but I’m glad I realized the driver side was the issue before waisting even more money changing the switch and motor on the other side thinking it was the passenger side.

@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 3 года назад
Thanks and no problem. Yes this could cause your AC to not blow cold if it's a blend door actuator. However the easiest way to check if your air conditioning is working or not would be to leave it running and see if the AC compressor is spinning. Or put your hand on the low side line that is entering the firewall and see if it's getting cold when the AC is on. You have to aluminum hard lines enter your car under the hood. If you can find them. The larger one is the low side and that should be getting cold

If you hear the noise is it always this specific one that is broken? Because you mentioned the car has three of them. How do you determine which one that’s broken?

Are they the same part for all three? How do I know which one to change?

Would this problem cause power draw? I’ve replaced both my battery and alternator and before I even touch the starter I wanna make sure it’s not that

I fixed mine. 30 cent bolt and nut and drilled it. Took about an hour and 30 minutes. Saved myself 70..00 bucks. Better than new. Freaking plastic junk.

sweet. Yeah I would do the same if I owned one of these. Definitely stronger than new now

Hey thanks for the video. I am having the exact same problem (2013 200 - outside/inside actuator) I was able to swap in the replacement actuator only AFTER I opened it up (There was like 5-6 tabs I had to gently pry and release) and shifted the plastic gears a certain way so it would fit in line with the screws. PAIN in the ass to get your arm up there and screw it in... though now even after replacing it, it's still making the noise and I'm not sure why? I was wondering how I should proceed if you have any other tips. My friend thought maybe the flap that the actuator is controlling is the wrong way... so say if I had the button set to receive outside air, but the flap is the opposite it would cause that. Not sure if that makes sense though.

So at this point I disconnected the electrical so it would stop making the noise lol..

Do you know if this replacement part would work for an ‘08 Chevy Impala? I have the same problem. What would the outcome be if you didn’t fix it? Thanks!
