I love this old ex military Muir hill a5000 army loader
it's proper old school with big heavy levers and minimal electrics,
but it has awesome four-wheel steer and very fast hydraulics compared to average machines of its day.
one of the most seriously underated loaders that I see for sale 9n market place for as little as 3000 sterling for good running examples. if people knew how much work these things could do they would fetch a lot more. I think they are judged harshly on their unusual side cab looks.
also in the video is an ultra rare 1960s Muir hill 20t dump trailer.
this was originally fitted with the hydra hitch system.
it has some awesome features like over centre tipping and wheel jacking, super heavy strong construction.
check out my other vids featuring this very rare system designed by djb later bought by caterpillar and integrated into their product line as ADT truck. ‪@DieselCreek‬ I loved your recent video with loader and dump truck

Except that fella is sketchy as eff and does everything willie nilly. I was subscribed to his channel but after when i saw his video of the rock crusher i unsub'd. You dont have kids hanging around that closely and filling it while the kid is in a blind spot. Let alone put your own arm in the nose cone of the crusher.

Hello Allistair. My brother owns a heavy civil construction company and they have a lot of new/newer equipment. In fact his company is just taking delivery of three new track hoes this month and they bought three new loaders a few months ago. However, his (and my) favourite loader is my dad's early 1970's Caterpillar 966C. It is the loader my brother and I first learned on (when we were both about 12 years old). It is rough, noisy and the levers are hard to push and pull (no pilot system) but it always starts, does what you want it to and never goes into limp mode. The emissions system consists of a turbocharger, a muffler about the size of a coffee can and about four feet of exhaust pipe to tie it all together. (i.e. very robust). It has glow plugs and if it has good batteries and it is plugged in, it will start in -30C weather without ether. I put hundreds of hours on that machine before I got my drivers license and several thousand afterwards. I doubt that the new loaders he just bought will still be around in fifty years. Ken

place where i worked years ago had an old muir hill loader exactly the same she was a good tool , didnt have the digger attachment on the back it had been taken off it was just used as a loading shovel loading Britus usually , she had crab steer the whole nine yards ,2wd&4wd was so far ahead of its time great thing to drive good to see one still grafting , that trailer would cost a fortune to replace and the replacement wouldnt take the pain or last half as long as that one will .great ladfs keep grafting .

Camarata lives about 80 miles (130 kilometers) northwest of New York city in New York state. Emulate Allistair, while honorable to wish to be like others, most people find comfort in being themselves the most. I have always enjoyed your work and vids, though, so do as you wish. RU-vidrs seem to be like the tides, they come and they go, each one bringing in some new and seeing the last of some of the old.
