I plan to start flight training within the next few months, and I've been watching these videos (all of which are fantastic!) to prepare. While I know there will be a lot of other knowledge to gain, radio communications are the part of the training about which I'm most nervous. I hear pilots rattle things off and rattle them back, and it just blows my mind. Many thanks for this video, which makes the whole process seem so much simpler!

Sometimes I see class D airports right next to a busy class b airport and it's confusing. Do I have to contact the busy airport's approach for clearance into the bravo before I enter the class d? will the class bravo approach hand me off to the class d airport's approach?
@FreePilotTraining
@FreePilotTraining 4 месяца назад
You must contact each one individually before entering their airspace. Typically, you will be talking with approach before you contact the tower in the class D airspace. The controller SHOULD hand you off, but they don’t always do that. That’s why planes have 2 radios. You may have to operate 2 radios at once.

As far as the B class veil is concerned, you don't always have to have ADS-B. I have an antique aircraft without electrical. I am grandfathered in under the requirements. I DO have to get prior approval, and fill radio communication. I would have to call, at the minimum, 1 hour prior, to notify ATC that I intend to fly into class B airspace, and get their approval to do so. Then when I am about to enter, contact once again via radio to get cleared without ADS-B

Quick question.... why does Class C & D airspaces require 3 152's, and Class B only requires 3sm & CoC?
@FreePilotTraining
@FreePilotTraining Год назад
Great question! Class B is HEAVILY controlled airspace because it’s so busy. They have a lot more controllers and probably better equipment to keep you separated from other aircraft. Because it’s so busy, when you fly through the airspace, you will notice that they are more likely to give you vectors to keep you separated from other aircraft. Because they keep you on such a tight leash, they can allow you to get closer to the clouds in the Bravo airspace

The FAA has a page clarifying the regulations since there seems to be a discrepancy in the regulations. They say: The FAA published Federal Regulation 14 CFR 91.225 and 14 CFR 91.227 in May 2010. The final rule dictates that effective January 1, 2020, aircraft operating in airspace defined in 91.225 are required to have an Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) system that includes a certified position source capable of meeting requirements defined in 91.227. These regulations set a minimum performance standard for both the ADS-B transmitter and the position sources integrated with the ADS-B equipment. You may get an one time waiver to fly into the airspace. Check out the website for more details: www.faa.gov/nextgen/programs/adsb/faq/#g2
