Get better at Radio Communication now! This video explains basic VFR radio communications and how to talk on the radio as a Private Pilot. Basic aviation radio communications is one of the hardest parts of getting your private pilots license, but I walk you through the basic building blocks of making good radio communications. I explain what you need to include in your radio calls to make good read backs as well as how to contact the different ATC agencies. I discuss communicating with clearance delivery, ground control, tower, approach, departure, and center controllers. These basic radio calls are vital to your success if you want to become a private Pilot. Don’t watch ATC live audio videos, watch this instead! For more details, check out section 4 of the AIM! Very well done; if I may: at 8:21 never say ¨Ready for takeoff¨, but ¨Ready for DEPARTURE¨. ¨Takeoff¨ is only used when cleared by ATC, or by you when you are cleared by ATC.

By far a video on practicing radio calls is very important. Anytime you have to speak and others are listening to your response it is very intimidating!!! I am a PIT and I hear radio calls when I am out and hope I don't make the same mistake I hear others do. I know I will but I want to be able to adjust as quickly as I can and feel confident adjusting!! YES PLEASE would love to see a radio practice video!!!

Prior to 9/11, student pilots could still visit Kansas City Center and listen in on the line. It made them more human. I don't know if they've opened that up again. The ATC training simulations were fun to watch as instructors threw in scenarios including spacing for Air Force One.

Hi, This is by far the best video training on ATC comms that I have seen so far. I have the link saved so I can watch and rewatch long enough to make it 2nd nature. ATC communications is the most difficult. It is not rocket science, but, you want to do it right and look ( be heard) like a profesional. Thank you so much for the time dedicated to produce it. It helps A LOT!!, specially now for me that I am starting planning and navigation to controlled airports here in Texas. Thank you indeed.

I enjoyed the different voices. One of those guys desperately needs a throat lozenge. I gotta say, towered airport communication is by far the most intimidating thing I've encountered so far on my way to PPL. I just flew to one with my instructor last week and lets just say I was not prepared. Crosswind landings, solo cross countries, and the written test have nothing on this. I'm regretting not ever having been a waiter, I feel like my hearing/repeating skills are severely lacking. I'll definitely be re-watching this video a few times in the hopes it will sink in but at the end of the day I think I'm still going to have to just blunder my way through some actual practice until I get it.

My biggest issue with radio traffic is juggling multiple radio disciplines. I'm a ham radio operator (informal), LEO (a little more formal), and learning to fly (very formal). Last thing I need is to drop a 10-code in flight or request a tower clearance when responding to a fight lol!

This really helps, I did a night cross country trip with my instructor and I talked with approach about VFR flight, I got so confused when they read back instructions because they talk so dang fast.

That’s great to hear! Don’t feel too bad. I still have to ask them to read things back sometimes. It’s just going to take some practice. You will start to anticipate their radio calls pretty soon and that will help as well
