Amanda Bynes was the eponymous performer on a sketch comedy show for children. She's the Man is a natural evolution of her style of comedy, this over-the-top ridiculousness with sincerity and commitment to the bit. If you liked this, you should watch What a Girl Wants (2003).

This movie is SO QUOTABLE. It's over the top in the best possible way - exactly what Shakespearean comedies require 😍 EDIT: the most unbelievable part of this whole movie to me is that the parents didn't have each other's contact information 29:13 🤣

This is cinema at its finest. Also, to answer your question, she modeled her guy voice after Jack Black. And the scene where she’s copying the men walking was filmed on the street in Canada where they filmed. Those were not actors and they were actually confused lol

The movie's based on the Shakespeare play _Twelfth Night,_ not a real story. Basic premise was Shakespeare, but this movie's screenplay was Ewan Leslie, Karen McCullah Lutz, and Kirsten Smith with the director being Andy Fickman. The trailer for this movie was amusing in just how complex the story can seem if you try to describe it to someone unfamiliar with Shakespeare's _Twelfth Night._

Also adding to this: Clueless is Jane Austen’s “Emma” (and if I’m not mistaken started this whole 90s/ 2000s classic to teen film trend) With an honorable mention to the 1996 “Romeo + Juliet. (Which used the original play but was set in modern times visually and was a 90s teen favorite)

@@agenttheater5In a similar way to Romeo and Juliet there was a 2000's Hamlet adaptation, that kept Shakespeare's dialogue, but made the setting modern. I think there was Ethan Hawke in it. It wasn't as popular, but I was obsessed with it for a while.

Amanda Bynes and David Cross. firstly, Andy Fickman who directed the movie, gave a LOT of creative liberty. that Amanda and David did so much improve, and i seen this movie way too much that i can pinpoint every single thing done that they improved. one of my favorites, is literally every time David had a lot of lines at one time, like his chats with Amanda. he would say something different every time they reshot some of those scenes. and they needed to be reshot because Amanda kept laughing with every new thing he said XD

Unfortunately, Amanda Bynes DID go crazy for a while, mainly from substance abuse and bipolar disorder. Kissing Booths went out when Human Alphaherpesvirus 1 gained epidemic proportions in the '90s. Actually, I think the modern premise of the old Shakespeare play was done better in JUST ONE OF THE GUYS(Columbia Pictures, 1985) with Joyce Hyser as the lead.

Please react to the 1996 movie 'Twelfth night - She's the Man is based off that play and they definitely put in a lot of references to the 1996 movie here, ie Viola's school being Cornwall where the 1996 movie was filmed (in the play Viola and Sebastian come from Messaline). Other similarities: staring this movie at the beach, Twelfth night started with a shipwreck Here Viola and Sebastian's parents are so uninvolved in their children's lives they may as well not be in their lives - Viola and Sebastian's parents died before the play began. Andrew is a fool like sir Andrew Auguecheeck. There's a flyer for the play 'What You Will' which is the alternative title to Twelfth night. Here Viola and Olivia both recently suffered a break-up - in the play Olivia's brother recently died, and Viola thinks Sebastian drowned. They all meet at a place called Cesario's and in the play rather than pretending to be her brother Viola calls herself Cesario when she pretends to be a man, leaving Sebastian confused about why perfect strangers keep coming up to him calling him Cesario. We have the two boys fight and then the three girls fight - in the play Andrew and Viola (as Cesario) fence, Andrew thinks he knows what he's doing, Viola knows she doesn't know what she's doing but both think the other has already killed other people in a previous fight thanks to Sir Toby, then later Andrew fights with Sebastian who he thinks is Cesario and unfortunately for him Sebastian does actually know how to fight and doesn't take being shoved or slapped or punched by a stranger lying down. The title 'She's the Man' isn't just a reference to the expression 'he's the man' but also to Viola's line when she realises Olivia is in love with her (or rather Cesario) where she says "She loves me. I am the man." Where the big differences are: Olivia makes it pretty clear she's not interested at all in Orsino, not even pretend. Maria has a much bigger role that Olivia's fawning friend Toby has the same first name as Sir Toby Belch and that's all he has in common with him - he's Olivia's uncle and is a middle-aged drunken sot. Viola's friend Paul Antonio I think is a clear reference to Antonio who saves Sebastian from drowning (up to the viewer to decide if he's just a really devoted friend of Sebastian or if he's in love with him) - I think Paul is supposed to be a combination of Antonio and the sea captain who saved Viola. Viola and Sebastian both do something crazy and impulsive to get a shot at what they want - Viola and Sebastian get separated by a storm and each believe the other one had drowned. Malcolm Feste has a surname like the Feste character int he play except he's a fool as in he's an idiot while play Feste is a professional fool - meaning he's paid to sing and to make people laugh by laughing at all of them so he relies more on wit rather that idiocies. Also Malcolm Feste is more like Malvolio - stickler for the rules who thinks he has a shot with Olivia and doesn't get that he doesn't, plus he wears yellow socks and no one really liked him. There is no Horatio in this play - he'd be better cast as a stand-in for sir Andrew augucheeck, I can see him delivering a lot of Sir Andrew's lines. There's no impromptu drunken party in the kitchen and no fake-letter prank that starts out really funny and then gets out of hand really quickly and suddenly isn't funny anymore. Not sure where this comparison belongs - in the movie Orsino and Viola talk about how relationships should be more than just sex and about how to talk to women and what guys can talk to each other about. In the play Viola basically tells Orsino that while men have the freedom to declare their love as loudly and as often as they like, women feel love more deeply then men do even when they don't have the freedom to express their what they feel. Little annoyed they cut a scene where Sebastian plays some of his music at the dance and dedicates it to the women in his life (his mum, Olivia and Viola), and we get one more quote from the play (he misses the point of the line - "If music be the food of love, play on" same as Duke missed the point of the line "some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them" but it'd be nice to get one more quote from the play) - a lot of shakesperae's comedies ended with a celebration and a song so it would've been nice to see it repeated here.

There are actually 2 Kissing Booth movies. I believe there is a book that the first movie is based on, though I could be wrong. A few movie reactors have enjoyed the first movie. You will be questioning the sanity of all those involved, about halfway through. Then again, that's usually the case in most real life events nowadays. I was ahead of the curve though, cause people have been calling me crazy for years before this trend started. So Nick, you have the honor of telling people that Derek Thomas Lirio, the original crazy, is one of your fans.

Apparently this movie messed with Amanda’s mind that she looked so much like a boy. 9:48 that actors reaction was real cause the towel whipped around his head and hit his eye. 28:29 that always bugged me. As a guy when I played with long hair I had to have something to pull it back until I cut it which upset my girlfriend cause she liked my long hair. That throw in does help with a farther throw if done right. It helps the momentum of the throw and legal as long as you land and stay on your feet. Also realistically they should’ve had to forfeit the game cause she was not registered to play on the team and she wasn’t a student of the school.

"The Kissing Booth" is basically a girl in a toxic relationship with her best friend's brother. Then in the next two movies they add a character played by Taylor Zakhar Perez, who's in "Red, White, and Royal Blue," his character supportive of the girl, shares common interests, and is exponentially hotter her friend's brother, but she still wants toxic the guy. I'd recommend saving yourself the aggravation and watch "Red, White, and Royal Blue" instead. That movie is funny, beautiful, and addictive. It's an instant classic.

I didn’t see this movie when it came out and seeing it now is so odd. The plot doesn’t make sense. It only works in a world where everyone is straight i guess

Switching goals > she's the man. I know they're not really the same, but man I don't like this movie. I only laughed at something you said. Totally recommend switching goals, much better. Although I love Amanda Bynes, just not this movie.

The actress who played Olivia said when Malcolm started singing she had to bite her lip so she wouldn't burst out laughing you can see she is struggling ain't the scene 🤣🤣

9:46 best bi%$ smack they used to do kissing booths yeah...i think nowadays they would be considered too unsanitary. pretty girl (or guy) usually a girl though is in the booth and you pay a small fee to kiss them.

In fairness when Americans have 'prom' it means promenade. Debs is the other Prom and it means the debutant ball. I did have etiquette lessons growing up and HATED them. Looking back, though... I'm grateful

@danniethedemon My grandmother used to give etiquette lessons professionally. Then when my siblings and I were very young it was every Sunday. I'm from Ireland. Yeah the poor thing was under insane pressure and abuse from the media and that wasn't even the worst of it! I'm glad she's getting help too x

@danniethedemon Never moved! Still live in Dublin. Its actually waaaaaay less religious than people think. Just as rainy and green though 😂And its a bit of a small world. Like, my grandmother went to primary school with Richard Harris (OG Dumbledore?), my ex best friend is Father Ted's son, my sister is really close with Bono's daughter Jordan and you'd just see him at school a lot, the gross name dropping name list goes on but when you're all so close it's unavoidable! Where are you from?

@danniethedemon Oh god my parents had me travelling since before I can remember! Dad was an embassy kid so he knows how important it is to travel. Idk to be honest I'm easily entertained 😂 but if you want a book recommendation I'd tell you White Oleander, it's been made into a movie as well
