While many people have expressed outrage over a viral video showing teenagers dumping garbage into the waters off South Florida over the weekend, one of their classmates is sticking up for them.
To quote someone who said it best: "Rich Kids With Bad Parents". Their mothers and fathers are to blame for the disgusting display of privilege and ocean abuse
Why? Anyone who ever served in the US Navy knows that this was nothing. My ship dumped TONS of trash three every single day. And dumped sewage from 5000 crew all day everyday. That's not to mention all the aircraft fuel and ship fuel dumped and leaked all the time. I have seen trash piled so high on aft decks that it took 5 hours for 4 crew members to toss it overboard. The trash floated behind us for 20 miles. That's just a single ship. We had 20+ ships in our convoy.
He said it was wrong. He knows it is wrong. He just said they were 15 year olds, who often get breaks for doing dumb things that adults wouldn't, and that people shouldn't terrorize them. Seemed like a decent response to me.
@@mountianfolks The crap the Navy dumps is the stuff that is basically biodegradable. They are not dumping beer cans and plastic and then flipping the bird like these little monsters.
Is THAT how they are educated there in FL (well everywhere) !! I don't blame the kids as much as I blame the parents and teachers!!! It is entirely their fault!! What a joke of a kid... and then we will see them protesting over "climate change". Complete imbecile!!
I would have assumed the locals took these kid's actions to say that they don't mind people dumping their trash in this families front yard. And I would not consider that as terrorizing them at all.
Actually They’re Trying To Make It Seem Like White Teens Doing Something Obviously Illegal With Evidence Is No Big Deal Vs A Cop Assuming A Black Person Is Doing Something With Nothing More Than An Assumption
This is one reason why tourism is horrible. People come from everywhere and treat precious places like a dumping ground. They don’t live there, they don’t care. Suddenly those cherished “travel destinations” are destroyed. And they wonder why. Some people shouldn’t be allowed to roam freely.
@@treznev.v2, yes, stop moving in. No vacancies , Florida is CLOSED to NY, NJ, CALIFORNIA, WASHINGTON St... Go back to those states you already ruined.
What kid? The one that didn't do anything? The crazy thing is you can't see how having people like you in the world makes it worse than it could be without you. The problem is people that threw trash in the water. Not the one who doesn't like ganging up on kids because kids did something wrong. Get your head screwed on right, idiot.
@@mildredkrisik8888 Right? Just looking at the boat these *children* are allowed to use without oversight tells you all you need to know about their parents.
Terrorized. As in people freaking out at them because they saw a video that made them mad. It isn't the public's job to punish some kids for dumping garbage for days and weeks after the event. That is law enforcement's job. And their parents job.
Ther folks just hand over the boat to take 7-8 other 15 yo out 😱that’s a recipe for a whole lot of bad fine the parents cancel the boat insurance , outrageous
Thank you for defining the word "kid". I'm not sure why you bothered. The word you use doesn't affect how they should be treated. They are kids because they aren't adults. You arguing over the label doesn't change anything.
@jamisojo clearly you don't know what a kid it. A child/kid is a term typically used for 5-10 year olds. Baby(New born, infant), toddler, child/kid, pre-teen, teenager, adult. Minor18. They aren't kids.
"unfairly terrorizing "them? Only someone as irresponsible as those kids would say such a dumb thing. It is a good thing they were not my kids. That would be the last time they would be on a boat, near the ocean or even smell the ocean. I hope they spend enough time in a jail cell to think about their actions.
You think they should be in a jail cell for dumping two cans of trash in the ocean? On what charges? I think what they did is disgusting, but don't you think a hefty fine seems more appropriate?
LARGE amounts of community service that ONLY involves picking up trash from waterways and the side of highways. Let them see the problem up front in person
I bout had to pick my jaws up off the floor when he insinuated that dumping trash was an okay thing to do because Florida was already full of it! Who are raising these people? I am shocked that people are normalizing this behavior!
@@jerrymylove1754 Or their teachers!! Parents should be fined for the behavior of these kids! When that word gets around, these selfish adults will take notice and pay attention to what the ignorant kids are doing
So by when they say unfairly "terrorizing" does that mean "being publicly shamed and held accountable for illegal behavior"? It sounds like they are being held accountable for their bad behavior for the very first time.🙄
It probably means a bunch of people who think they are protecting the environment or are just mad after seeing the video.... Are freaking out at these kids long after the event. Yeah, that's law enforcement job and their parents job. Go find their parents and harass them. Or, get a life.
@@jamisojo Ahh yes, harass family members of the law breakers or "get a life".........the phrase "get a life"=ignore law breakers, in civilized societies we hold hold the law breakers accountable rather than harass innocent family members.
I mean, all the trash will just end up on the beach anyway. They were not offcoast. And most, if not all, of your trash will end up being shipped to asia, where they throw it into the ocean anyway (they aren't supposed to but they get more money for more trash they "dispose of" so they illegally throw first world trash in the ocean). So really, you are just as much a terror to the ocean as anyone else.
and if you did we would all be slaves to the government since they would be the only ones allowed to control and decide who gets to breed, sounds like a nightmare society you want to live in, no thanks.
@@simonstevenson6686 And parenting classes need to be mandatory. They offer Lamaze classes to prepare you for having the child but after that…you’re on your own.
So not only were these a group of entitled brats!!! But they were all underage, dumping mounds of beer cans, alcohol bottles!! They need to be charged with the maximum!!!

@mountianfolks Because of intent...those ships you speak of have extremely important jobs and duties, and i really doubt your ship was polluting so close to shore...not a bunch of underage kids drinking and intently polluting the coastline
Yea, their moms and dads maybe work at the corporations that do this kind of thing literally everyday. Get off your high horse. If you cared, you'd go after the companies and the corporations that get away with this and have done so since the industrial revolution.
I guess its okay for teens to drink, dump the evidence into the ocean and operate a vessel now. Whoever captained or owned the boat should have taken 100 percent responsibility and gone to jail
What we see her is a group of rich children. That boat cost between six hundred thousand and one million dollars. Why hasn't one of their parents stepped up and said that is my child on that boat and we will hold them accountable on this extraordinary opportunity to teach them to be responsible and accountable for their actions and decisions???? Who owns the boat and why don't they speak up and take advantage of this opportunity?
What? That boat is 600k if not more? For real? I know nothing about boats, i grew up with ski boats, but i wouldnt give more than 30k for it lol, it looks like a plain jane average family boat, crazy…
The country is NOT going to hold the boat owner and father of one of the kids accountable. Money doesn't talk, it swears. This is all a dog and pony show for the media and public.
@@kevinbarry3548 i mean if we all push back enough something will happen. i think we can forgive the media here for getting viewership on controversy as this is news worthy and shameful behavior that needs called out.
Yes, Florida is filled with garbage. It is the people that were on this boat. Kids parents are Lisa and Chris Ruth run FirstLight Home Care in Jupiter.
@@user-wz8gj4mc4q At 1:36 in the news report, someone said that Florida was filled with trash. I realize that’s hyperbole, but that’s what I was responding to.
@@Afflictamine Thanks. Are all accounts that are configured like that (e.g., user followed by a bunch of numbers) bot accounts? If so, I’ll just avoid them in future.
Friends stick together, that´s how it should be. People like you need to realize when someone says 2-33 sentences, it doesn´t tell everything he is thinking. How people still watch someone say one thing and think they know everything is beyond pathetic.
Who raised them? Probably people from your generation who didn't and still don't care about the environment either. Grow up some more, the issue lies in individuals not being educated rather than a generational issue. If anything younger people other than these rich spoiled ones know better because they're the ones who will have to deal with the consequence of the past generations destroying the planet.
@@tiffanystrand4423 The Ruth’s need a parenting lesson or two. Those teens need to be told no every now and then. That is the result of negligent, permissive parents.
Kids grow up with a camera in their hand and face. He's diverting his gaze because he knows he's gonna get bullied if he says anything bad about the jerks on the boat. If that was a selfie he would be looking right at it!
Waaah! Poor little rich bois. The audacity to say they don't deserve consequences for their actions. They never had been held accountable for anything in their lives, same for those classmates.
I don't think they should be terrorized, but they should be held accountable. The fact that they are already so entitled at such a young age is very concerning.
He wasn't on that boat. He and the reporter both said he was on a different boat following the one that dumped the trash. He said he was telling the people on the boat he was on, to make sure to dump their trash into the trash. But I think he was lying for the camera, and they would have or already have done it themselves. Like he said, he thinks it's not a big deal. Also, he needs to lay off the weed before a camera interview.
the fact that kids see trash everywhere and think it's just a way of life is the real problem. if that's their excuse, they're just as bad as the trash they see everywhere. most of the worst offenders i see out there dumping trash are in fact kids, i used to live by a school and would have to clean my yard every-single-day!
That boat is worth a couple hundred thousand dollars. Obviously, these kids are not responsible enough to be piloting that boat without parents. These kids should get to do a hundred hours of community picking up trash in the community.
@@Scott-og1pi I do a lot of clean ups on waterways. 100 hours would be plenty of hours to make amends for the trash they dumped. I'm not how many hours it would take to learn personal humility and respect for this beautiful land that we live in.
Teens seem to not even care if they live or die today. They have Zero concerns about anyone else or anything else besides their own enjoyment. It is really really sad and disturbing.
The 70's were better. Better music, better drugs, zero AIDS, herpes, etc. No zombie drugs, fentanol, flesh eating whatever, ppl still had an expectation of decency from others. Being a low-life was frowned upon, homelessness wasn't a thing, nobody celebrated being a victim, pole dancing wasn't a career, weirdos basically stayed in Hollywood.
@@lizlagle671 yep, too bad the adults of the 1970s did nothing to preserve that way of life for their offspring. Instead we have to endlessly hear how great it was back then compared to now. Yeah, thanks a lot grandpa.

True, but ppl weren't spreading it with the huge migrations of drugged out hippy abandon that began in the 60's. It wasn't at all common. NOT having sex with anything that moved was/is mandatory.
_"Florida is filled with trash."_ 😡 Florida is filled with good people who are constantly going out and picking up the trash and trying to keep it clean. If some (explicitive) people didn't think it was okay, then the trash wouldn't be there. I sure hope that kid gets a lesson on Florida's natural ecosystems and why it's important that we keep them clean.
They need to contact the young man who was interviewed parents and Investigate them for not educating their child that dumping garbage into the ocean is not only a crime but wrong.
