Man, thanks for taking the time to produce this. Was a massive help, especially your technique for re-securing the rubber ring - worked a treat and saved me a lot of pain and faff. My DC39 now sucks like a virgin on prom night - sweet 👍🏻
For us "dust freaks", this is the most thorough instructional video to maintain the Dyson. The amount of dust that accumulates in the vortex it's unbelievable. Before I saw this I would just Frey detergent and light water hose into the Vortex to washout grey water and accumulated dust. Thanks again for the video.
Thanks, no wasting time, straight to the point and the tip you gave about the rubber ring saved even more time. My vacuum is so clean inside now, seems a shame to vacuum up and start making it dirty again!
Great instructional video. I went ahead and submerged the purple top parts in water with a little Chlorox. It was smelling very badly. Will lett them dry out for the full week and reassemble.
Super helpful, thanks! I did this a couple of years ago. My best recollection is that I used the long Torx T10 from my 1984 Macintosh toolkit for the motor ball assembly.
I wanted to know where the battery was so as not to get it wet when cleaning it. However, I also learned the things are definitely beyond my skill set, an enormous help to me!
Torx 15 security bit is the name of the bit you used the t15 on. Cleaning the cyclones is very helpful and where most performance issues are solved. Nice video.
Great video- loved you mentioned I needed a T8 bit for the cyclone part- I have set coming from amazon- I wanted to learn how to take apart the roller head.
Thanks for this explanation. I was struggling too with the gasket, until I realized that the order of reassembly is wrong. You need to put back and screw the part and then put the gasket in. That way it is way easier!
Thanks man this helped me out big time. I never knew you were able to take that piece apart. I did it followed your advice and it worked Great:-) thank you again great video!
Just after removing the first 7 screws (2:32) at the base of those black funnels are 5-7 more screws. They come out and you will find a weird black rubberish seal/gasket. Remove that and there are 2 white parts. They hold a LOT of dirt and dust (suction issues may be solved after cleaning this) Also I believe the motor comes off with a harness clip. I have gotten the big white filter off (cant remember how but will check when I have the unit near me) and ran it under water after using the air hose. (Will need lots of time to dry- it is a paper type material so be very careful.) The rubber seal on the clear canister outer shell will pull out as well. I always found that dirt got under there. More cosmetic I think though and not so much to do with function. Very tedious to get back in but I used a flathead as well as the little handled pry bar that comes with screw driver sets. Great tutorial! Adding the separation of the black funnels before proceeding (3:19) will shock you at the dirt in there and will improve your suction immensely!
Super good video that I've been waiting for as I didn't have a clue how to open the unit. I filed a long thin flat screwdriver to a point where it would just fit the screw head, worked fine. My Dyson has a good suction power without the dust container except for the "Valve" closing. I did not have a blower to clean the HEPA filter, instead, I had another cheap vacuum with good suction and tried sucking the dust instead of blowing it. Unfortunately the problem didn't go away (I can still hear the "Valve" closing after few seconds after turning the unit on). Also, is the valve the wide ring rubber above the motor? I pulled apart the unit twice with no avail. Do you think sucking (vacuuming) the HEPA filter isn't working or the problem could be something else?
Darn that rubber ring. I've given up trying to do it! I've just attached the purple outer filter to the main cyclone chamber and then put the screws in. I then added the rubber ring (around the assembled unit) and it seemed to go in fine, then tightened the screws. Just trying out the hoover now, maybe it's that simple?!I'll tell y'all soon if it doesn't work! When you add the clear bin it's a very nice snug fit.
good vid man, helpful. I will say the valve you heard wasnt closing but was opening to keep the motor from overheating when the suction is blocked. You cleaning the filter thouroghly keeps hat safety valve from being sucked open to allow a bypass for air to the motor. I dont know how to replace this HEPA filter, but they dont have to look dirty to be clogged to the point of inefficiency. I suspect my unit as well as yours are in need of new HEPA filters. I have had some luck getting another six months use rinsing them out with water and dawn gently, shaking dry and then allowing to air dry completely. I dont know if a HEPA replacement filter is even available for the DC39.
The Hepa filters are meant to washed. I wash mine using dawn dish soap and rinse really well and let dry thoroughly. I've had my vacuum for 7 or 8 years. No issues.
Can someone please tell me why I am unable to pop the HEPA Filter/Pre-Filter Assy out? All vids I have seen so far look so darned easy and unlike what I have. The filter on mine is not even purple but gray. It has a spring-mechanism and its basic one and only function appears to be just being a means for the Top Duct Assy to attach to the Cyclone and Bin. If it helps my Serial Number is GT4-US-GKA0793A.
My Dyson has some suction in the handle part but does not suck up dust anymore. I checked all the hoses and cleaned the filter and bush. I don't think I could take it apart as you've done [manufacturer's warranty suggests not to take it apart!]. It does not seem to make much of a difference in the video. It sounds like mine - when it's not sucking up dust! I guess the engine is slowly dying. Anyway. Mine cost over £200. I decided not to spend so much on a hoover again! I went out and bought one of those cheaper pet hair hoovers for about £60 and it does the job - especially for human hairs - the inside of the bin is transparent and very easy to clean.
When I had that problem it was the suction pickup that attached at the bottom, when the handle is up a cam directs the hose toward the handle pickup to direct the host suction thru the hose on the handle, when you pop the handle down it redirects the pickup hose to the front beater bar, mine had a peice of wire that had been sucked up and blocked the opening of the hose so the suction didn’t get to the beater bar. Good luck
A few weeks after posting that video, the flap being sucked shut sound returned on our vacuum. I ended up finding a lip-balm clumped up with hair and other debris inside one of the hose elbows. My guess is you've got a clog somewhere in the hose that isn't easy to get to, but it's there somewhere. Good luck.
The top foam gasket that holds the top cover on to the cyclone chambers might be shot or the top chamber tubes might be clogged. If those cyclones can't work properly or are caked you will lose suction also if the gasket is shot loss of suction also occurs. The top lid comes off by 8 more t8 screws between the cyclones which are hard to spot if there is still dirt covering the heads. Also the crossover tubes come off as well after removal. The foam gasket holds those tubes in place. Make sure you can order a new top foam gasket first. Chances are that old gasket has worn thin because of all the cyclone separation activity, or if drywall was constantly sucked into the chamber.
Just buy a bagged vaccum...all the dirt and fine dust stays in the bag. Filters last a lot longer and stay cleaner, and the sanction is stronger. Bagless, u actually spend more money buying filter more often. I use a cordless just for the bathrooms and anything quick...miele c1 canister for the rest.
Thank you, it helps a lot me to take it apart. I have a question: After I cleaned and put all the parts together now my filter catches a lot of dust. What might be the problem? I feel like I made something wrong
@@iveneverdonethisbefore8390 At first use after I put it back, the filter turns all white in one use then I found the issue. I just reassemble it and now fine. My question is, Is it normal to see some dust that is not excessive on filter after one or two use once cleaning the filter. Thank you for your prompt reply. Your video is awesome and very helpful.
Finally I find the solution and it worked. I put the seal (gasket) after reassembled the cyclone. Found the solution below link. manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/index.php?topic=4122.0
man you should have sprayed that outside sheesh.. the gasket for the bin is a pain in the butt albeit the thing is you just gotta let the gasket sit there you don't need to 'seat it' until you attach the rest.. - you also have another set of screws in there to separate the top from the vortexes and clean off the loops and the soft gasket too they also do get dirty....
When you took the motor out the carbon brushes probably close to the end of their life span. Where the carbon brushes hit called the commuter they get carbon build up and can be used with a computer seeter stone. The air power nozzle on mine the belts stretched making the air nozzle to not spin at all basically huge restriction on power. I apologize if my comments are over your head but if you understand your vacuum likely would run like new.
... didn't watch your video until today. I noticed you didn't check the flat part of the intake socket (from 1:35) for obstacles. This part clearly is a weak point in all ball Dysons. In my experience this is almost always the remaining reason if you have cleaned your Dyson thoroughly but suction remains substandard. I've found almost everything stuck in there from paper clips, toothpicks, Kleenexes, even a clothespin once. Hair is going to wrap around the obstacle and over time the socket gets clogged. You usually don't notice it at first glance but on closer inspection you will almost certainly find that it's jammed. 😇
Helpful video but ... Oh Lordee... I cringed every time the crud was blown or brushed off the vacuum & parts .... That's lots of microscopic bits of dead skin, bugs, pet dander, smoke, lord knows what else going all over everything in the workshop and up his nose, in his mouth... Yuck! :D
