Fix it or nix it. Use it or lose it. Just a few of my rules for clearing out stuff.

Omg I had a huge bag of Christmas cards dating back to 2013😩I just couldn’t get rid of them when we were decluttering before our last move in December. My husband went through the bag and kept only 2 yep 2 cards only in a bag of 100s. The whole bag was then thrown out in the garbage. 🙃 When you can’t do it yourself go to someone super neutral who has no problem getting the decluttering done.

I literally cleaned out my junk drawer the day you posted this. Can't believe all the crap that accumulates. 😳

So, for a suggestion, I have a book where I have people add little notes and greetings for my birthday or holidays instead of cards. If they give me a card, I just tape it to a page in the book, so it's a really nice way to have people "give me a card" but it doesn't lend to clutter, but I can still save the message as well as it saves them about $5 where they could add it to the cost of my gift or donate to a charity or do something of more value than just a card. 😃

I guess this is good if they actually bring you card. My family is back in Europe, and just recently I got their cards for Christmas (way after holidays) and for birthday (way before my birthday haha) - and it actually made me happy :D But everything else, like valentine's day card is the most useless card ever, because you are giving it to someone you live with :D

I do believe Broken things should be fixed, instead of thrown into the landfill and replaced by another. And I agree with the rule though...if it doesn't get fixed within a period of time, get rid of it because you must not need it. lol

We call ours the purposeful drawer so it reminds us if it has no purpose, it has to go. Only the things we will use weekly like keys, wallets, a few pens, check books etc go in there. This has helped our mind know we don't keep random stuff.

People can have the most random things in their junk drawer. Sometimes a lot of stuff is office supplies that should be in the office or in a closet with like minded objects to find. Taking care of the items , fixing them up now or scheduling for later makes more sense.

discard the christmas/birthday cards unless there's written a meaningful and personal note. If so should it stay in that drawer ?

I want to start to live as a minimalist. I have got a question: I have a lot of trophies at home that I won. What would your advice be? Throw them away or keep them? (It seems kinda weird throwing away for me)

You should donate your camera and microphone since you can do videos using just a smartphone. Be minimalist haha
