A casual Sunday reset routine and therapy session I suppose...
The first 1,000 people to click this link skl.sh/hitomim... will get two free months of Skillshare premium!
I do this little routine basically every Sunday and relish in the complete cleaning sweep of my space and spirit. Often when I feel stressed it’s because I don’t feel settled or comfortable in my external environment or feel disconnected from my center. I try and prioritize time to do little rituals every single day.
Reminder, spend some time every day meditating on your most embodied self.

The part where you started talking about your parents and learning to accept them made me start crying because it's definitely something I am still currently learning myself. Thank you so much for bringing awareness to that and I love that you write letters to people! I have a habit of doing that myself but I never actually show or give the person the letter. I kind of want to but I fear that they may get freaked out as its not considered a 'norm'. Anyways thank you for having this deep conversation in this video. I always learn something new when I watch your videos! So no thank YOU for being.

I understand what you said about your relationship with your family. In my experience and anyone else who might have been triggered I have something to say to you: Yes you can be grateful for the experience and growth that a painful childhood bring you. But it does not always have a sweet taste. You can leave the door in your heart open for your family if you have found the healing and acceptance in yourself. But for me, even when I am grateful for the experiences that have made me grow, I have to close the door. I have to be realistic, even if they were my family, I have to look at them the way you would look at any other criminals, robbers, monsters. I understand why they did what they did, and I understand that what was given was all they had but that won't justify it. You can have empathy for them and their past but that won't justify that they didn't give me the love I needed and deserved. Sometimes your parents don't deserve your love, even if you look at them in an empathic way, you just have to close the door. My childhood was scary and violent so I have to be realistic. They don't deserve me. They don't deserve my heart and the love I have to offer. I do. I deserve the love I have. For the sake of my damaged brain I will close the god damn door.

Wow Hitomi, throughout today I was going back and forth with myself trying to unpack my childhood traumas and the resistance I feel towards my parents. I came to the conclusion that they just did the best they knew how, and that was freeing. Skip to this video that I just came across - and you’re reflecting and affirming exactly the same things. THANK YOU! ✨🙏 I know the universe makes no mistakes and is always on time. This Christmas I will write them both post cards for the first time 🥰

Do what's best for you. I was a little alarmed with what Hitomi was saying in this video. I know that specific to her situation she can forgive her parents and maintain a relationship. I was a little apprehensive about how she was saying that all families have trauma, and they did the best they could. Not all trauma is the same. We can't choose the family we are born into, and only you can decide if whatever your family put you through is forgivable or not, or if you want them in your life. It is alright to not.
@evangeline9052
@evangeline9052 3 года назад
I agree, I think it can be really unhelpful to say that because a lot of survivors already are too forgiving and too nice, because they haven’t fully processed the trauma. Premature forgiveness is damaging and can be a form of dissociation. We have to feel our anger to truly heal. Of course, everyone’s situation is different and all parents are different but I know for a fact my parents didn’t “do the best they could”, in fact they enjoyed and actively tried to hurt me. It’s really important to see our parents for what they actually are, not what we wish they were. I’d love to say “my family tried their best”- it protects me from the pain, but it’s just not the truth. And even so, if somebody did “do the best they could” that doesn’t take away abuse or pain and the effects of that, a lot of times somebodies “best” is still not good enough.

I resonate so much with the portion of you talking about your parents. I had so much anger and resentment up until I left home and unpacked my identity in critical race classes in college. I never understood how their history, trauma, and culture affected them and thus my upbringing. Seeing them as imperfect humans and survivors (they are Cambodian refugees) really changed my who perspective. Perspective and reflection gave me so much more respect and gratitude ❤️

They're not perfect and I definitely still have some scars from childhood, but I have seen how much emotional intelligence they have been able to acquire as the years have gone by, by just me being more open and they becoming more open in turn. I've read Becoming Supernatural and wanted to say that if you're looking for a life-changing book that has a similar mix of science + spiritual health and healing, an even better read is "The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma". To me it has more instances of triggering passages (so be careful of those if that's something you're keeping in mind) but the author is both more scientific and more selfless. He focuses more on healing and helping others (where with Becoming Supernatural I felt like his manifestations were more about personal material gain). I think you might really enjoy it!

You definitely can compare trauma. Not all of it is the same, and not everyone goes through it. Just writing this for any people reading this, not as an attack on Hitomi at all. Sometimes minimizing trauma can make it easier to compartmentalize it, or function on the day to day but I strongly urge people to not do that.There are some things that are unforgivable, and while assuming good intent especially with family makes things easier for some people, I want to say to anyone reading this, there is positives that can come from not forgiving people who hurt you, and keeping a distance and setting hard boundaries. Just do what's best for you, and don't attach any shame to whatever decisions you make.
@nadiaishimwe3663

Yes. I remember my favourite teacher, my elementary school one, once told me that I don't always have to forgive people. She said that forgiving doesn't always fix things, and I can be happier not trying to forgive everyone just for the sake of forgiving.
@nikkiw2548
@nikkiw2548 3 года назад
but what’s the point of having that anger and carrying it around with you. i think it’s easier just forgiving it and letting it go and not have that weight on your shoulders. you still have boundaries and never have to see that person again but forgiveness frees you
@izzylooks4078
@izzylooks4078 3 года назад
@@nikkiw2548 I just didn't want people to see this video, and minimize things that have been done to them, or to make excuses for people in their lives. I didn't like how Hitomi was saying how everyone has trauma from family etc. So I quickly wrote something about it being okay not to be so understanding when it comes to trauma that has happened to you. I think one of the main things they tell you in therapy is "It's okay to be angry" because so often we are told anger is a bad emotion to have. By not allowing yourself to be angry though, you're bottling it up whether you realize it or not, and it can end up eating you up, or coming out in panic attacks etc. It also can result in minimizing your own pain because you don't want to face what it's like to be angry with someone. It is alright to be angry with people who hurt you. You don't have to forgive them. "Negative" emotions aren't always a bad thing, and it doesn't mean you will constantly be walking around angry if you allow yourself to feel. Just like you probably won't walk around happy all the time just from saying hi to a puppy. I do understand what you're saying though.
@nikkiw2548
@nikkiw2548 3 года назад
@@izzylooks4078 yeah its true not all trauma is the same for sure!! but at the same time, when she said that we all have trauma just DIFFERENT and uncomparable to others I honestly found a lot of peace in that idea. Because often I talk to my friends and they tell me about their difficulties and I tend to internally compare my own with there's after our talks and they've even said "you don't understand I have been through a lot worse than most people" without telling me what it even is. and I've just felt like I couldn't even talk about my own problems because they arent valid enough or as hard as other peoples. so then you just want to bottle it up.
@binimusique
@binimusique 3 года назад
@@nikkiw2548 yes it's true that people have gone through different things and that everyone has their own important feelings about it. But I was annoyed too when she said that whatever bad experience you have gone through, "big or small", "it doesn't matter at the end of the day". Because it does. There are different scales of violence and bad things that can happen to you, and different scales of trauma that they can leave in your heart, body and nervous system. And it certainly depends on people and how they live it and how much it hurts them, but there are definitily harder experiences and past that makes more difficulties for the future and more work to feel safe and good. And yes not all of it is the same and not everyone goes through it. But everyone is valid to talk about their feelings, and not only people that live/lived the harder stuff :)

I've recently come in contact with a mother wounding due to my mother abandoning me at the age of 1. I've before in my life cried or asked about mother. Never. I always thought that I couldn't miss something that I never had. I have the most beautiful and supportive dad that that I love so intensely that have done two parents work by himself. I'm forever grateful, but my heart has been aching for a mothers embrace. I'm learning to let these emotions arise and to give them space, and at the same time not attaching myself to them. Both my parents is truly teachers in my path. I'm learning to love and honour all the lessons and the pain and use it all for growth. It a humbling yet strong and painful process, but I'm learning to stay grateful. Every moment. Every breath. Thank you beautiful being for your presence, this video and the reminder. I love you Hitomi. From the bottom of my heart. I have been watching your content nonstop these last 4 days and integrating your teachings into my life and I can honestly say you have taught me so much; you taught me how to love myself and how to come home to myself and for that I cannot thank you enough. Your message about your parents truly hit home with me. I have stored trauma due to my dad's alcohol addiction, and how that he's passed it's hard to deal with where my mom's emotions are at sometimes. Your reminder that we chose our lessons for ourselves and how we just need to unfold into them really hits home. Thank you thank you thank you. I hope to dance with you in the physical someday. 🤍

I feel like I was called to watch this video. I've been struggling with my relationship with my parents and have been so focused on what could have caused the trauma that is present in all my mental health struggles. I've grown to be somewhat cautious of my relationship with my parents because of this. But in these past few weeks, I've started meditating and looking after my mental health on my own and I've been closer and honest with them as well. I feel like subconsciously, I've been starting to realize what you said about how they tried their hardest for me and did everything in their power to give me a good life. Finally hearing someone talk about this out loud just taught me a huge lesson and really resonated. and you're right, I too picked them to teach me what I need to know in this life. Thank you so much for this message, Hitomi. 💖

I've been watching many of your videos and I am so grateful that I stumbled upon them and you. I was feeling depressed and overwhelmed, disconnected from my higher Self, and your shared insight is so remarkably inspiring. I am cleansing and purging through my home while absorbing the wisdom, knowing that my inner being is also being cleansed. Thank you for being the beautiful soul that you are!

wow i *really* feel the texting piece. the quarantine really has made me conscious of it and it's effects, heightened by our lack of shared physical space. being present with people I love is so important to me, and I wonder how possible it is to adjust to the type of communication we rely on now while maintaining authenticity and intention with one another. it's always a matter of balance, but also expressing your honest limitations at the moment. sometimes I get really down about how lonely I feel now that I can't rely on shared physical space for my social needs. i guess it's one of those things we have to approach with immense care in the digital age.

Lol anyone else start tearing up when Hitomi spoke about the beauty of being able to witness people and their stories presently? I think it’s so pertinent to remind ourselves how much of a blessing it is to be able to engage in discussions and discourse with other people and their energies. Thank you, Hitomi, for continuing to share your extremely brilliant messages and advice!! 💗

Hitomi, I appreciate you sharing your life with us on this platform. I've been a subscriber for a while now and I just want to say thank you. The way that you approach life and being vulnerable about expressing your feelings truly inspires me to do the same. You mentioned that you wanted to write letters to your parents expressing gratitude for what they have gotten right and just, wow. That's something that I have also been thinking of doing but haven't gone through with because I thought that it was corny or that it wouldn't be well received by my parents. But I have found new motivation to follow through after watching this video. Your content is so wholesome and this channel is truly a gem. 💙

Hitomi i don't know if u would read this, but i been watching u for 4 year i guess. I'm a psychologyst and i stared college when i was 17, some times it feels like it was not my decision ( i just wanted to get out of my house haha), and when i feel like that somehow one of your videos pop out and reveal me that is the right path for me, even if in that moment i wasn't mindful of my decision.. so thank u for just being yourself and i feel that social work would bee an amazing option for u. I have learn about healing so much with you and some times bring me hopes in this path of healing with others.

Just stumbled upon my first video of yours and had commented on it, and then checked out your channel, and the title of this one called to me too... so here I am. Anyway, I've just paused to write this, after hearing you say that you're hoping to be a therapist and start back to school soon. I'm in my third quarter of my program, and I can see you in our cohort, 100%. It's just being a light in slightly different way than you're being a light now. :) Changing careers was a big dream of mine too, and going back to school had been a long time coming. If you decide to take the leap of faith, and have any questions where my perspective might be helpful, feel free to reach out. I realize this is random, but in the helping profession, we all work together in our strivings.

Returning to my breath is something that I'm still learning to do instead of resisting my thoughts, feelings, stillness, etc. But I realize that every time I am able to return to it, I never regret it. Thank you as always for being so courageously vulnerable! Happy belated Birthday and wishing you well!!

I'm processing my resentment towards my family right now for traumatic things that have happened. Now I understand that my mother was fighting her own battles, among my other family members as well. Through healing myself I've forgiven my mom and now I can bring her up with me. Through facing these emotions I have now decided to work as an addiction and substance abuse therapist mainly focusing on youth. I love your videos because of where I live I'm very alone and its like having coffee with a friend. Thanks for creating a safe space to reflect and share.

Happy belated birthday, Hitomi! I'm a Scorpio baby too :) Not only do I deeply resonate with everything you've said about trauma and knowledge, but I also think that knowledge paired with perspective is key to deep learning and empathy. I've always known that my parents did everything they could for me despite their shortcomings and that acknowledgement has brought so much peace in my life. Thank you for your amazing platform and keep being the blessing that you are to so many of us, you are loved 🧡

wait hearing that you plan on going back to school gave me so much hope. Personally i've had to take time off school to really figure myself out and its so scary falling behind my peers in the whole academic scheme of things. idk if that makes sense but its just such a nice reminder that I have time to go back to school and i'm literally 21 i'm still so young and i forget that :) also i've been watching ur vids since 2017 so ur my youtube big sis, love you!!
