I'm going to try this, to protect my very arthritic, nearly bone-on-bone knee joints. For those who (like me) have pain descending stairs, I challenge you to think outside the box. Instead of descending face first, I experience ZERO pain when I turn around, hold a banister (!!!), look down and descend the stairs BACKWARDS, placing my next foot carefully when I can see the following stairstep, descending more slowly, but in fact more securely and in NO pain. Practice a little and I'm betting you'll find relief too.

Knee pain whilst climbing stairs is no joke. I've learnt all I needed to know from this great video. No distractions, no bumbling or mumbling - this video clip is clear and concise. I wish you've got a similar presentation on how to descend stairs!

Sideways works great for me! Angled to the left or right doesn't matter.

I tried it. Much better! But then I still had trouble descendning. So I tried going down on my heels, as if I was going to begin a sit or a leg extension calf stretch and it worked! It's a drop - but only a drop - awkward, but there's no pain in my hips or knees or back. A giant improvement. Thanks!

Thank you for a simple, good video on a topic which I have been interested in for the last 2 weeks. When talking about body movements, posture and muscles. It is very important for viewers to be able to see what exactly what we are trying to learn. Most of the changes required or being thought are small and sometimes very subtle. In some other videos that I have tried to follow; the loose clothing over the body, greatly prevents a good understanding of the finer details being explained. May I also suggest the following additional improvements to the video ( that I would have appreciated ) : 1) Must show at least 3-4 consecutive steps performed at normal pace 2) A frontal view of the walk upstairs ( from front + from top) Query I have Q1) Do we have to splay the feet a little outwards ( just a little ?) Q2) Our knees which are now trying to reduce the "overeach" to the front. Is it now tracking a little to the outside ( following the feet splay outwards) ? Thks for an important topic and a good video.

Nemo Nemo i have slight stiffness when i go upstairs. I got Xrays 3 weeks ago And it came back clean my doctor said. Just because an x-ray comes back clean does that mean that there is no ligament or meniscus or any sort of damage in my knee? I can run at maximum effort and walk without any pain. I think it’s either runners knee or a jumper’s knee which is two forms of tendinitis

Hello! Thank you for all the vids! My left knee- joint has been exchanged and a second surgery was necessary cause it hurt so much l couldn't go or walk or…anything! The pain was too much and l couldn't stand it! After surgery my whole leg was so fat by interstitium water that l thought my leg had to explode! I got a trombosis and Docs couldn't find. But l felt it! So l asked one of my physicians ane the best one said: "No normal place,… but skin is marmorized and it might be there's an untypical thrombosis! Skin feels a bit cold and hard…Go and see a doc right now! I don't practice my lections today until l know if or if not this is one. Don't be afraid, if it is one we're at the beginnig and it's well done to do now what's needed to be done. It's at the beginning, that's very good!" So l saw the doc and she diagnosed a thrombosis. Marcumar didn't work, neighter did the other medicament! Now, after 4 years, l can't go nor walk, can't master steps more than 3 to max. 4! I've to use a wheelchair and it's equipped with power assisted wheels cause my other knee is deformed and ready for surgery since years, at the same time as my right leg. Both were defect same class same time and l had to make a choice. I wanted the right one first cause l'm lefty and wanted to learn at the not so important one. You understand? What can l do to make my situation better? Thank you for everything you think or do or write for me! Be blessed and stay healthy! My English isn't well done, l beg you pardon! I do my very best to make you able to understane me nevertheless!

This looks great! I tried it, and I think it will work for me. Like others, I am wondering about going down stairs, which tends to be more of a problem. I am thinking I will just practice this technique a lot in hopes it will build up my "walking down stairs" muscles?

Shifting the hips back and inviting more work into your backside (butt muscles) is helpful on any type of stair or hiking up a hill.

Does landing with heels first help as well?
@HeartBonesYogaAnatomyMobility
@HeartBonesYogaAnatomyMobility 2 года назад
Yes, if there's space on the stairs for your whole foot to land (not all stairs are wide enough for that) then weight in the heels is good. If not, that's ok as well.
@senioryogawithlinda
@senioryogawithlinda 3 года назад
This will only work if the stair steps are wide. Most are not.
