At NORD’s 2023 Living Rare Forum® in Washington, DC, Jackson Goodrich, a 17-year-old who was diagnosed with a genetic kidney condition called Dent disease when he was 5 years old gave the keynote address titled, “Dented, Not Broken.” Jackson brought humor, science, and inspiration to the stage as he related to the audience while speaking about ways he is coping with his diagnosis and how scientific advances, such as gene therapy, shine a bright light of hope on the future of all of us in the rare community. Hearing from such a young advocate, intending to go to medical school, inspired hope for the future of rare disease. Listen here to hear his message, “We might be dented, but we’re not broken!”
